There was a press conference held in Tokyo today where wrestlers from the three title matches all gave comments and interacted with their opponents. Minoru Suzuki told reporters that he feels like he is finally reaching the pinnacle of DDT and wants to enjoy the experience because it feels like a new beginning for him. Yuki Ueno said the strongest wrestlers in the world are those who live their lives the way they want and Suzuki does that the most. Ueno wants to live freely like he does and believes taking the DDT Universal Title from him while also protecting the KO-D Openweight Title will help him move towards his goal. But after their interviews were over, the two had a staredown and Suzuki attacked Ueno with a chair! He targeted Ueno’s leg and grabbed the limb in a Heel Hold until the two were pulled apart from each other.

A scheduling conflict meant Team 200kg could not attend the press conference but they sent a message to be read out to the other wrestlers in the KO-D Tag Team Titles 3 Way Match. Chihiro Hashimoto wants Yuki Iino to remember all of the times she Suplexed him around the ring while Yuu warns Yukio Naya that she will come flying out of the sky and flatten him! Iino lost his temper and wanted to go searching for Hashimoto until the others all calmed him down. KANON said he and MAO haven’t won the tag titles together yet so he wants to get the belts and raise the status of Strange Love Connection. MAO also talked about how much KANON has grown ever since he was kicked out of DAMNATION T.A. MAO also wants the match to be so intense it will destroy the ring and make things difficult for everyone wrestling after them. He isn’t trying to destroy Sumo Hall itself though, just cause enough mayhem to beat The Apex and Team 200kg.

During his DDT Extreme Title reign To-y has been establishing himself as a gambler so he wanted to gamble the right to choose the match stipulation with his four opponents. They all played a game of Chinchiro and Super Sasadango Machine ended up being the winner. He decided to pick a stipulation that will remove everyone’s eyesight so the 5 Way will now be a Blindfold Death Match! He explained how important eyesight is for wrestlers and how if you take that away, all of their training will go to waste. Sasadango however never trains so wrestling blind isn’t going to make a difference to him as far as he’s concerned. Everyone else though will be dragged down to his level. Akito said the match will prove who truly deserves the Extreme Title the most. Kazuki Hirata doesn’t mind because he still gets to bully To-y and possibly be rewarded for it. Antonio Honda is excited because he has the most experience out of all of them when it comes to wrestling blindfolded and has the advantage of being a pioneer with the gimmick. To-y believes even when blind he sees everything with his heart so he is going to show the old timers what a modern Extreme Champion is like!

So it turns out Danshoku Dieno isn’t ready yet to return to the ring. After he got surgery for acute appendicitis, he ended up developing an intra-abdominal abscess that will take some time for him to recover from. His match with Daisuke Sasaki has been cancelled and DDT went to find a new opponent for Sasaki. They went with AMAKUSA from NOAH, which is a fitting decision because he and Sasaki were each other’s opponents in their debut match just a little over 20 years ago! The wrestler once known as Yuki Sato went through a couple of reinventions over the years before becoming the Jr. Heavyweight missionary you see in NOAH today. He has no memory of his time spent with Sasaki back in SUPER CREW so it will be like they are facing each other for the very first time all over again.

Danshoku Dieno is feeling like a new person after getting surgery but doesn’t understand that his match with Daisuke Sasaki is the rematch of an infamous Sumo Hall main event they had together back on 2018. The KO-D Tag Titles match doesn’t just have The Apex and Strange Love Connection involved. Team 200kg from Sendai Girls are included as well to make it a Survival 3 Way Match.

Takeshita Becomes The IWGP Champion!

He did it! After winning the G1 Climax during the summer, Konosuke Takeshita has now taken the next step up and has won the IWGP World Heavyweight Title! He went into today’s show having a 1-1 singles record with Zack Sabre Jr. coming out of the G1. Now was the big rubber match with New Japan’s top championship on the line. Sabre tried to break Takeshita down limb by limb and the damage he inflicted prevented Takeshita from capitalizing on some possible comebacks. However he was able to survive being tangled into submission holds and relied on those big impact moves to take their toll on Sabre. With both wrestlers reaching their limit, a spent Takeshita took Sabre’s wind out of his sails with German Suplexes before catching him unaware with a Reverse Hurricanrana. Takeshita then decided to pull down his own kneepad and hit a raw Wagamama knee strike that kept Sabre down for the pin count.

While Takeshita was making a promise to Sabre after the match about protecting the IWGP Title, he noticed the reaction in Sumo Hall to his victory was mixed. Takeshita acknowledged there are New Japan fans who aren’t happy to see him become the champion and is certain some of the wrestlers in the company feel the same way. He called for anyone to come down and challenge him. Hirooki Goto answered the call and entered the ring. Goto said Takeshita knew this would be coming because he wants to win the IWGP Title again. Takeshita was surprised to see Goto because he expected one of the younger NJPW wrestlers to challenge him first. However he has unfinished business with Goto from last year’s G1 tournament and he is not going to start following Goto’s revolution, so he accepts the challenge. Backstage Takeshita told reporters that winning the championship is not his end goal. He wants to defend the championship at the Tokyo Dome but is not taking that position for granted. That’s why he wants his title defence against Goto to take place before “WRESTLE KINGDOM 20”.

Can you guess how much I’m beaming with joy right now? I’ve been following this guy’s career since the beginning so to see him go from winning the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title in DDT before his debut to winning the IWGP Title in New Japan just has me feeling delighted right now. But there’s quite a number of NJPW fans out there who aren’t in a celebratory mood over this result like I am. NJPW has had a cold year and Takeshita’s presence when he is there isn’t doing anything to help warm it up. One common complaint are that it’s because he only shows up for the big events and is nowhere to be seen on the tour loops. Another is that Takeshita’s presentation hasn’t caught on with the fans. Try as he might to act like he’s about to be crowned Japan’s next big star, he still comes off as an outsider to the company’s fanbase. An obvious answer to this problem is to lean into that and have Takeshita play the role of the new boss monster for NJPW’s stars to eventually take down. But New Japan themselves haven’t committed to that idea ever since the halfway point of the G1 when Takeshita switched to acting more like a face wanting to unite the wrestling world instead of dominating it all as “The Alpha”.

Takeshita as IWGP Champion is also now the focal point of an issue that is dividing two specific fanbases, the relationship between New Japan and AEW. How far you lean into being a fan of one or the other opens up different paths. For the AEW fan there is fun to be had fantasy booking what happens next with Takeshita in The Don Callis Family, especially since he is currently involved in a slow build storyline with Kazuchika Okada. Both men are now champions and they just so happen to have a chance this upcoming weekend to win the AEW World Tag Team Titles together. They win and that’s a pretty amazing tag team you got there. They lose and we’ll likely get the next chapter in the story where Takeshita gets kicked out of the Family and turns face in AEW.

New Japan fans though do not give a shit about from what I’ve seen of their responses online. They’re sick of seeing their company playing second fiddle in this relationship and they don’t want a repeat of Jon Moxley’s title reign where the champ was absent from a couple of tours in Japan only to take part in a throw away title defence with zero build on AEW TV. I bet tempers will flare even hotter if the brand new IWGP Champion was to immediately take a pinfall loss on PPV less than a week later even if it was all part of an angle to turn (big) babyface. They’re also sick of AEW fans fantasy booking Takeshita Vs Okada for the IWGP Title at the Tokyo Dome. I myself am not expecting that match to happen mainly because Okada has almost completely avoided doing anything New Japan related ever since he jumped ship to AEW. There’s been his appearances at “FORBIDDEN DOOR” this year and last and I think that’s been it.

As for me? I’m soaking in the moment. One of my favorite wrestlers in now a top champion and chances are I’m going to see him defend the belt at the Tokyo Dome this 4th January. That’s my boy!

A fan vote that was done on Tokyo Joshi Pro’s Twitter has Uta Takami as the favorite to win the Next Generation Tournament ahead of Kira Summer. Although Chika Nanase didn’t finish last in the vote (that was Ren Konatsu), her low score as well as being left out of TJPW’s second season of the Next Generation Youtube series and also not having a homecoming show yet is convincing her she is the tournament underdog.

The next big arena supercard show scheduled for Tokyo Joshi Pro will be over at Sumo Hall in March. The promotion wants its locker room to to start preparing for it straight away so they’ve come up with a “LEVEL UP TRIAL” for three of the lesser experienced wrestlers. Shino Suzuki, Haru Kazashiro and Uta Takami have been tasked with taking on Miyu Yamashita, Mizuki and Shoko Nakajima respectively in three singles matches. The goal of this challenge is for the younger side to win two of them.

The 5 Way Match will have special rules applied but they haven’t been decided on yet. It will like become an Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title match too if Mahiro Kiryu is still the champion on the day of the show.

Rika Tatsumi and HIMAWARI won’t be at the show because they will be wrestling each other over in China that day instead.

DDT held a press conference today to announce the upcoming title matches involving Yuki Ueno and Minoru Suzuki. Yes there’s more than one because it turns out Ueno’s fun idea for his first KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles defence is to nominate Suzuki as one of the challengers! Kaisei Takechi is just as excited by the idea because as a pro wrestler he wants to overcome all kinds of threats no matter how scary they can be. To-y feels like he has no choice but to fight Suzuki too. Suzuki first said he could fight all three champions by himself but Hisaya Imabayashi told him that wouldn’t be possible. Suzuki then asked if he could invite wrestlers like Lance Archer or Chris Jericho to team with him? Imabayashi couldn’t find an answer but Suzuki understood that would be too difficult to set up on short notice. Imabayashi decided he will choose who Suzuki will team up with, eventually picking HARASHIMA & Yuya Koroku to be on Suzuki’s team.

Double title matches aren’t anything new in pro wrestling lately. In fact they’ve kind of become a bit too common. At least here it will be the first time the KO-D Openweight Title and DDT Universal Title will both be on the line in the same match. This whole thing started with Ueno luring Suzuki to DDT by using the Universal Title only to lose it to him. At the press conference, Suzuki even blamed Ueno for thinking he could beat him with just youth and momentum. He came to DDT to become a dominant champion and now that he sees Ueno with the KO-D Title he is coming to take that too. Ueno admits that this match was always his plan to get revenge on Suzuki. He felt the best way to get the rematch was to win DDT’s most important title and put it on the line against him. With that said, Ueno can’t find it in himself to hate Suzuki. He also said if he loses this match he will never challenge Suzuki again. Suzuki then started pretending he was a reporter for “Weekly Piledriver” and asked Ueno questions about why he wanted this match so badly so Ueno then did the same to him as a “Weekly Sauna Kamiina” reporter. Eventually the two almost got into a fight over the belts and had to be seperated.

We’ve had twenty five years of the bandana boy Yasu Urano bouncing around the Japanese indies. DDT was his home for a lot of that period but he’s been a freelancer for a long time now with BASARA being one of his regular spots. Urano is putting together his own show to celebrate his anniversary but BASARA have been promoting it pretty strongly so for all intents and purposes I’m lumping the show in the BASARA category on this site.

Urano has picked Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi to be his opponent but several other wrestlers have already been booked for the show. They are Minoru Fujita, HARASHIMA, Toru Owashi, Antonio Honda, Daisuke Sasaki and Fuminori Abe with more to come.

She used to wrestle a lot in IWA Mid South too. “Big Al” as she is nicknamed also competed in the infamous Power Slap contest earlier this year. As part of her title shot, Crowley will also be wrestling on the 12th and 19th October Tokyo Joshi Pro shows.

For Higuchi it is a chance to win another championship so soon after losing the KO-D Openweight Title. Meanwhile Ishida has been picking up momentum, mostly from beating other wrestlers from the D GENERATION. Knocking down either Yuki Iino & Yukio Naya with the Flame Palm on route to a championship win will be a massive accomplishment for the little sumo.

They were opponents for all of the previous times in NOAH I could find. The opposition has a lot of BURNING in it because both Jun Akiyama & Yuya Koroku are there. Daisuke Sasaki did an interview with Tokyo Sports to promote the show and said he wants the show to sell out. So if El Desperado ends up losing the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title to YOH later this month, Sasaki is going to kick Despy off the card and bring in YOH as his replacement. He also originally wanted to book Los Tranquilos de Japon but didn’t know where to contact Tetsuya Naito or BUSHI. He even asked Tokyo Sports if they had Naito’s contact details.

The card has been changed around a bit because Akito has aggravated an old injury of his and will not be at the show tomorrow. Tomomitsu Matsunaga will come in to take his place.

A big task awaits for Takeshi Masada. It’s bad enough he pissed off Minoru Suzuki when he challenged him for the DDT Universal Title but before that match happens he also has to deal with Shinya Aoki in the meantime.

Yuki Iino will be hold an emergency press conference at the show tomorrow. I don’t expect the news to be drastic like him leaving the company anytime soon just because he’s already in the middle of a storyline and holds a few prizes that DDT would need take off of him if he was to leave for somewhere else. Maybe he just wants to announce when he is cashing in his title shot.

When MLW made the decision to book that match, Tokyo Joshi Pro came up with an idea to have the other halves Kyoraku Kyomei and Ober Eats face each other back in Japan. That means Hyper Misao and Wakana Uehara are going to clash one on one in an international buildup for the Princess Tag Team Titles!

One of the novelties that happen when TJPW come to Arisu Endo’s hometown is the local mascots get involved in the show. Akabe and Kappa Green have both featured on these shows in the past but never at the same time. Until next weekend that is.

Preparations for the upcoming Iron Fist Tag Tournament are in full gear at the next BASARA show. Takeru Inoue and Tomoki Hatano will be teaming up for the tournament but they will wrestle each other here first. Several other teams will be in action too.

At the last show Masato Kamino teamed up with WizRYU under a mask as Body Slam Machine. Now Gouma Ryu had nothing to do with that but the new unit is named after him so he better be careful if Takato Nakano thinks he is taking away his Aijin Tag partner.

Daichi Kazato gets his wish to team up with Guts Ishijima. His tournament partner Ryota Nakatsu is on the team too so at least there is someone normal there for Ishijima to get along with.
