7. D-King Grand Prix – B Block: Shuji Ishikawa (4) defeated Akito (2) with the Splash Mountain (18:32).

A Block

1. Keisuke Ishii (4)
-. HARASHIMA (4)
-. Jiro Kuroshio (4)
4. Tetsuya Endo (3)
-. Konosuke Takeshita (3)
6. Joey Ryan (0)
-. Masahiro Takanashi (0)

B Block

1. Shuji Ishikawa (4)
-. Yukio Sakaguchi (4)
3. Mike Bailey (2)
-. Akito (2)
-. Daisuke Sasaki (2)
-. Soma Takao (2)
-. Kazusada Higuchi (2)

Day 3 of the D-King Grand Prix and the two blocks are starting to even out. Shuji Ishikawa has clearly made himself the man to beat in Block B. His win over Akito in the main event means he currently leads the block with two wins and no losses. Akito’s attempts to beat him included the use of Scorpion Locks and Figure 4 Leglocks but Ishikawa was just too strong to be kept in those holds. His last gasp chance to nab a win came from a European Clutch but it was no use. When Ishikawa regained momentum he popped Akito into the air with the Running Kneelift and dropped him with the Splash Mountain. After the match Ishikawa at least gave Akito credit for giving him a bruise for the first time in their fights. He closed out the show by singing a song. Daisuke Sasaki & Tetsuya Endo peaked through the entrance curtains during the song but they decided not to stop him.

Konosuke Takeshita had to use Joey Ryan’s moves against him in order to beat him. Ryan’s offence, his dong specifically was effective on Takeshita. When Ryan gave him a low blow, Takeshita did one in return but only hurt his foot in the process. Then a wild clash between his head and Ryan’s crotch after an Implant move did more damage to Takeshita. He later pulled Ryan by the legs into the corner post but even that had no effect. Ryan chased Takeshita around the hall and attacked the other wrestlers and DDT staff with his crotch during the rampage until he finally caught Takeshita and threw him into a row of chairs. Takeshita finally turned things around when he deflected Ryan’s lollipop into Daisuke Kiso’s mouth, making the ref faint. When Ryan check on Kiso, Takeshita took out his own lollipop, stuck it into Ryan’s mouth and booted him in the face. Rather than go for the usual German Suplex, Takeshita instead gave Ryan the Balls Plex to get the win. Takeshita said he now knows the best countermeasures to use against American wrestlers thanks to his matches with Ryan and Colt Cabana. Apparently Ryan wasn’t clued up on the Grand Prix rules because he thought losing to Takeshita meant he now had to go home. He also still wants the fans to throw paper tape at him.

After a rough start, Daisuke Sasaki finally has some points on the table with a win over Kazusada Higuchi. Sasaki escaped the Doctor Bomb by struggling out of the move and knocking over the referee in the process. With the ref down, Sasaki kicked Higuchi low and hit the Hurricanrana. However Higuchi kicked out of the move and held on to try and Power Bomb Sasaki again. Sasaki escaped that and trapped Higuchi in La Mistica Cross Facelock to get the win. The win is just what Sasaki needed because his next match is against Soma Takao in his hometown of Nerima on the 10th. The “Hero Of Nerima” cannot lose there otherwise he could never return.

Meanwhile the opposite happened to Jiro Kuroshio. He started off grand but hit his first road bump today against HARASHIMA. The DDT star was motivated and did not back down to Kuroshio’s kicks, eventually winning with the Somato. The two bowed to each other after the match. HARASHIMA knew Kuroshio is a colorful wrestler but today he found out how strong he is too. But HARASHIMA was stronger. The key was HARASHIMA did not go into the match thinking of Kuroshio as an outsider. He had just beaten Takeshita and Masahiro Takanashi so HARASHIMA took in those matches to prepare for him. Speaking of Takeshita, that is HARASHIMA’s next opponent on the 10th.

Soma Takao rolled Mike Bailey round and round and round in the Endless Waltz to beat him. Takao realised afterwards that he is the only wrestler in his block with a signature cradle move to pin his opponents. Soma declared that today he is officially recognising the Endless Waltz as one of his most important moves and he will use it more in his remaining matches. Bailey blamed his loss on a miscalculation that made him angry and lose focus. The positive is his next opponent is Yukio Sakaguchi who is always angry. Bailey can now use his own anger to fight against Sakaguchi’s anger.

At yesterday’s show Keisuke Ishii used the Carolina Reaper submission move to win his match for the first time. Today the move won him the match again, this time as part of the Grand Prix. Ishii feels he has been dragged into his opponent’s pace for every tournament match so far. With his current momentum, Ishii gives himself a 10% chance of winning the Grand Prix. Masahiro Takanashi is now the only wrestler with zero points. He may be a long way from his first win because Takeshita is his next opponent.

The Battle Royal was an excuse for Danshoku Dino to get his hands on some of the male wrestlers. But it wasn’t all fun and games. Dino still had to do his job as a referee and that included reluctantly counting out Yuni when Kazuki Hirata pinned him with a School Boy. Dino got revenge for Yuni by giving Hirata the Danshoku Driver and dragging Yuki Ueno on top to make Ueno the winner.

NωA performed one of their songs for the audience during the break.

4. Soma Takao (0)

-. Daisuke Sasaki (0)
-. Kazusada Higuchi (0)

Day one of the D-King Grand Prix kicked off with some big upsets in the opening round of matches. Jiro Kuroshio defeated Konosuke Takeshita in the main event. He took all that Takeshita could throw at him then countered the German Suplex into the Casadora for the surprise three count. A cheerful Kuroshio told Takeshita after the match he would see him again. Takeshita’s response was to raise his KO-D Openweight Title and give Kuroshio the middle finger.

Mike Bailey has only been in Japan for 5 days during his current stay and there’s already two times when he thought he was going to die in the ring. The first was from HARASHIMA’s Somato on the 3rd and the second was from Shuji Ishikawa kicking his head in today. Ishikawa used the Knee Lift to great effect in their match. He thinks that next to Yoshihiro Takayama, he is the best at using the move.

The second big upset on the show was Keisuke Ishii beating HARASHIMA! Ishii’s use of statistics in his preparations paid off when he knew HARASHIMA was setting him up for the Somato after a Buzzsaw Kick. Ishii got up and cut HARASHIMA off with the Kneel Kick. The struggle over to pin him took long enough for HARASHIMA to kick out but Ishii then gave him the Double Arm DDT for the finish. Ishii said that it took him 10 years to finally beat HARASHIMA because Ishii joined DDT in 2007. He will now use today’s result times of his match, Takeshita’s match and Tetsuya Endo’s match to prpare for his upcoming bouts against them.

The history between Akito and Daisuke Sasaki wasn’t forgotten when they squared off. Akito quickly grabbed Sasaki by the hair when the bell rang while Sasaki tried to apply the Cross Facelock as fast as he could. Poor Daisuke Kiso was stuck in the crossfire and was knocked down by a chairshot. Akito’s chance to win seemed to have disappeared when there was no ref to see Sasaki submitting to an Anklelock. Yukinori Matsui finally came down to replace Kiso and he saw Akito countering the Cross Facelock into an Arm Clutch Scorpion Lock. Sasaki had no choice but to tap out with his free hand. Akito said he will use the Grand Prix to get rid of all of the depression he accumulated over the last year. Backstage Sasaki had a mood swing and wanted to abstain from the rest of the tournament. He also threatened to cut off his own hair but he was talked out of it.

Masahiro Takanashi played dirty to try and beat Tetsuya Endo. He used the referee as a shield then kicked Endo below the belt during the confusion. Endo was still in the match though and he avoided the Takatonic to get the ref involved again. When that was sorted out, Endo hit the Tetsuya In The Sky to put Takanashi away. Takanashi was so flustered by the result he asked KUDO backstage to calculate his current standing. 1 loss, zero points. Takanashi thinks he’ll need to win his 6 remaining matches to succeed.

Yukio Sakaguchi wore down Kazusada Higuchi with the Cobra Clutch, only letting go when Higuchi tried to press him into the turnbuckles. Before Higuchi could get his breath back, Sakaguchi hit the Right Knee Of God to knock him down for the pin. It doesn’t matter how busy his match schedule is, Sakaguchi said he can win his block with his eyes closed.

7. Road To D-King GP Special 6-Man Tag Match: HARASHIMA, Kazusada Higuchi & Jiro Kuroshio defeated Konosuke Takeshita, Mike Bailey & Shuji Ishikawa when HARASHIMA pinned Bailey with the Somato (20:17).

With the D-King Grand Prix just days away from starting, six of the participants took part in the 6-Man Tag Team main event of 2018’s first DDT show. Jiro Kuroshio is already testing the patience of some wrestlers with his long entrance that this time involved the unwilling participation of a small child. Konosuke Takeshita in particular made Kuroshio his target in the match. Elsewhere Shuji Ishikawa and Kazusada Higuchi squared off in a power battle while HARASHIMA had his hands full with Mike Bailey. It all built up to unlikely team moves like Takeshita doing a Codebreaker on HARASHIMA then holding him down for a Body Press from Ishikawa followed by the Standing Double Knee Moonsault from Bailey. However, HARASHIMA avoided the Ultima Weapon from Bailey and pinned him with two Somatos.

HARASHIMA was about to give his victory speech when Kuroshio grabbed the microphone and gave his own speech. He said he was happy to be in the tournament and is looking forward to beating up Takeshita even more. Higuchi threatened to rampage his way through the block to the final. He is happy to see that Ishikawa is even stronger than ever and looks forward to fighting him. Ishikawa asked if Higuchu knows how many championships he has won? Ishikawa guarantees he will win the GP because he is at his best. Bailey said the Somato he took made him understand his wrestling career could end at any moment. But if it does end it will be when Bailey fights HARASHIMA in the final. Takeshita told Kuroshio he will make his handsome face look awkward when they fight again. HARASHIMA said he will win the league and headline Sumo Hall. As usual. He tried to close out the show but Kuroshio stole all the attention again by posing in front of him.

Daisuke Sasaki is sick of Antonio Honda telling his “Gon, The Little Fox” stories. He told Honda his goal for 2018 should be to give up telling them. Colt Cabana backed up Honda by going along with his story and joining in with his antics. They performed the Superman Dive together for a double nearfall. But it all went wrong when a double Bionic Elbow ended with them hitting each other. Tetsuya Endo took advantage with the Springboard Overhead Kick and then won the match with the Shooting Star Press on Honda.

After the match Cabana was attacked by Nobuhiro Shimatani because he wanted to win the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title. Cabana fought him off but then Super Sasadango Machine came in and pinned Cabana with a Cross Body Block. Cabana tried to win the title back at the end of the show but failed.

The NωA had to fight for their lives against Danshoku Dino and the Brahman Brothers. They were told by the brothers before the match that they would fall into Hell! What followed was a brawl between both sides that moved into the audience. The Brahmans took out a mixer and blended together a liquid made out of beer, boiled egg, natto and raw squid. They considered throwing it into the audience but they poured it over Yuki Ueno instead. NωA turned the tables and used the Brahmans’ own tricks against them including throwing the bowling ball and suitcase at them and spitting the black India Ink at their faces. They then attacked Dino with a piece of wood up the backside and pinned him with the Triple Ecstasy. The NωA are now allowed to break up and their final match will take place on 28th January. They asked for T2Hide to be their final opponents. All of T2Hide came down to the ring crying with happiness over being chosen.

In the second D-King GP preview of the night, Soma Takao beat Masahiro Takanashi. He countered the Takatonic into the Endless Waltz series of rolling pin attempts, constantly rolling Takanashi into another pin until he finally got the three count. Takao thinks the move will help him immensely in the tournament. Just using today’s match as an example, the Endless Waltz got Takao a total of 10 pin counts, that’s enough for three wins. Takao hopes the Endless Waltz along with the Gin And Tonic will help him win both the Grand Prix in January and also All Japan’s Junior Heavyweight league in February.

Two years ago a calligrapher named Nachu was invited over to DDT to paint Kakizome new year messages on the backs of the wrestlers. She came back this year so it could be done again. The rule of the Battle Royal was every wrestler had a “Prohibited Skill” painted on their back. If the wrestler performed the skill during the match they would be disqualified. But since it was painted on their backs they did not know what their banned skill was. So the wrestlers all tried to bait each other into doing their prohibited moves. One of the entrants was Joey Axl, a pro wrestler from Australia. He appeared during the show opening ceremony unbeknown to the rest of the roster. It was only when Hisaya Imabayashi noticed him standing next to the other foreign wrestlers that he introduced himself and asked to wrestle in DDT. It was decided he would be added to the Battle Royal.

Sadly for Axl he was the first one eliminated. His prohibited skill was speaking Japanese and he was tricked into saying “Ichiban!” after he overpowered his opponents. Nobuhiro Shimatani was out when he climbed the turnbuckle to do a high flying attack. Tomomitsu Matsunaga was not allowed to say his name in the manner of the RVD/Toru Yano taunt that he likes to do. He teased doing it first but later did it for real to get eliminated. Joey Ryan was tricked into speaking English when Gorgeous Matsuno told him he had a small dick. Sanshiro Takagi was out after he gave Gota Ihashi a Stunner. Matsuno wasn’t allowed to do his Gorgeous Star☆Elbow. It took him several attempts to do the move because he kept getting tangled into the ropes mid-move. He finally did it with Keisuke Ishii’s help but that meant he was now out of the match. Ihashi did his Moonsault but he wasn’t supposed to. He also missed. Super Sasadango Machine eliminated Mad Paulie by making him laugh. Sasadango unmasked himself to show he was wearing similar facepaint as Paulie. It made Paulie so happy that he laughed. Finally Sasadango eliminated himself by doing a Cross Body to Ishii. Ishii was declared the winner because he avoided doing his prohibited skill, performing a combination attack with another wrestler.

The Infomercial Match was supposed to begin with a trailer for the upcoming movie LADY NINJA: A Blue Shadow which features Yukio Sakaguchi and Saki Akai in supporting roles. However Kazuki Hirata stopped the trailer because he wanted to dance with the movie’s lead star Mai Hakase instead. Hakase appeared with Shuten-dōji wearing her movie character’s costume. Sakaguchi got so mad at Hirata for his behaviour that Toru Owashi & Veda Scott bailed from the apron and left Hirata alone in the ring with him to get beaten up. Later in the match Hirata challenged Hakase to a duel. Hakase pulled out her prop sword and looked to have bested Hirata until he knocked her out with a sudden karate chop. Sakaguchi stole the Hirata Go! glasses and danced his way into beating up Hirata again to win the match. With Hirata defeated, the movie trailer was allowed to be shown. Afterwards Hakase, Sakaguchi and Akai spoke about their experiences during the making of the movie. Hakane said that she was afraid of Sakaguchi when they first met and she wanted to run away when it was time for them to film their fight scene. But he was able to work with her shyness and it turned out fine. She also said Akai was really strong when they filmed their scenes together. Next time she’d like to see her get a role as a sexy ninja.

Akito’s tune up match for the GP was against the rookie Yuki Ueno. While it wasn’t a big challenge for Akito, he felt it was a good way to prepare for the tournament. He was also nicely surprised by how well Ueno wrestled in the match. He’s pleased to see the younger wrestlers in DDT growing up in the ring and thinks he can teach them stuff that other wrestlers in the company cannot.

The wrestlers in the pre-show match all yelled “Happy New Year!” mid-move to each other at some point. Rekka & Hoshitango worked well together and did a lot of damage to Daiki Shimomura. Their big move involved Rekka climbing onto Hoshitango’s back then Hoshitango doing a Splash onto Shimomura with Rekka still on top of him. Mizuki Watase stopped the pin but once they got rid of him it was easy pickings for Rekka to finish off Shimomura.

It was announced that The Great Muta will appear at “JUDGEMENT 2018” in Sumo Hall on 25th March!

*Daisuke Sasaki fails in V9. Yuko Miyamoto becomes the 40th DDT Extreme Champion!

DAMNATION got to take over Korakuen Hall as their prize for winning the Dramatic General Election earlier this year. In the main event Daisuke Sasaki put his DDT Extreme Title on the line against Yuko Miyamoto in a 2 out of 3 falls Hardcore Match. In Fall #1, Sasaki submitted Miyamoto with La Mistica Cross Facelock after doing an Avalanche Power Bomb onto chairs. In Fall #2, Sasaki went high risk with a Diving Elbow onto a ladder. But Miyamoto moved out of the way and used several pinning moves on Sasaki until a Backslide got him the 3 count. Both men went all out in the final fall but Sasaki had a dirty trick up his sleeve. He invited Suguru Miyatake into the ring to hit Miyamoto with a guitar. Miyatake missed and hit Sasaki by accident instead! Despite that, Sasaki kicked out of the pin when Miyamoto hit the Fire Thunder through a table followed by the Moonsault. He hit back with the Pedigree onto chairs and a Diving Elbow but Miyamoto kicked out of that too. Miyamoto kicked out of the flash Hurricanrana and dropped Sasaki with a Tombstone. That seemed to take all that was left away from Sasaki because he could not counter the Springboard Overhead Kick or the Fire Thunder afterwards. One more Moonsault from Miyamoto sealed the deal and we now have a new Extreme Champion! Miyamoto told “Dai-chan” after the match that it was fun but he now proved he was the most Extreme wrestler. What’s extreme to other people is normal to him. He has plenty of Extreme left in him for DDT.

When he left the other DAMNATION wrestlers checked on Sasaki. Tetsuya Endo said that in a short period of time, Sasaki lost the Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Title and the DDT Extreme Title. He also failed to win the KO-D Tag Team Title. What if Sasaki no longer deserves to be called Charisma? Sasaki agreed. Shuji Ishikawa tried to cheer Sasaki up by telling him to continue working hard. He then sang the SMAP song “The Only Flower In The World”. Sasaki told him to stop. He lost everything going into 2018 but he is still Charisma! In fact, in 2018 Sasaki will become a brand new Charisma!

One week before the D-King Grand Prix begins and Tetsuya Endo is already making a statement by beating Konosuke Takeshita! The result happened when Takeshita’s partner Masato Tanaka went for the Sliding D on Endo as the target. Endo moved out of the way and Takeshita took the blow instead. Masashi Takeda got rid of Tanaka and Endo hit the Shooting Star Press for the three count. Takeshita and Endo will face off one on one in the Grand Prix on 7th January. Endo gained a lot of confidence with this result. He also hopes to wrestle Tanaka one on one someday.

The Violent Giants Vs Brahman Brothers match was interrupted by Dick Togo being chased into the ring by Colt Cabana. Togo was the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion at the time. He crawled underneath Suwama when Suwama was about to give one of the Brahmans the Last Ride. But Cabana caught up to Togo and pinned him to become the new champion. Back to the match and the Brahmans pulled out their usual tricks like Brahman Shu spitting black ink into Suwama’s face. Shuji Ishikawa & Suwama fired back with a Sandwich Lariat. Suwama then grabbed the bottle of black ink and spat it back at the Brahmans. He then pinned Brahman Kei with the Last Ride.

Mad Paulie’s two partners for the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles match were Ryota Hama & Nobuhiro Shimatani both wearing Paulie facepaint. They came close to winning but Paulie & Hama were wiped out with dives. Yukio Sakaguchi then kicked lumps out of Shimatani until he got the three count. Masahiro Takanashi said that the original Paulie and the chubby Paulie were a strong team but the third Paulie was stupid.

Dick Togo’s mystery partner was his student Diego… No wait, it was Guanchulo! Meanwhile Colt Cabana wore identical gear to Antonio Honda. Honda stopped the match so he could talk about Star Wars, specifically Chewbacca. Togo assisted Guanchulo with a Sunset Flip to win the match then Togo rolled up Guanchulo to win the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title. Togo was chased out of the ring by the other wrestlers afterwards.

Everybody in the Battle Royal wrestled in another wrestler’s costume. Yuki Ueno was dressed as Soma Takao. Man Man Kai Kind was dressed as Yuki Ueno. Soma Takao was dressed as Man Man Kai Kind. Saki Akai was dressed as Ken Ohka. HARASHIMA was dressed as Gota Ihashi. Ken Ohka was dressed as HARASHIMA. Takayuki Ueki was dressed as Saki Akai. Ryuichi Sekine was dressed as Stone Cold Steve Austin. Ueki still acted as himself and pulled out a gun to intimidate HARASHIMA. However Ueki then slipped off the top rope and crotched himself, leading to HARASHIMA to win the match with the Somato.

Suguru Miyatake sang a song called “Golden Lion” to the audience before the show began. He couldn’t remember the words so he had the lyric sheet taped to the back of his guitar.

D-King Grand Prix 2018 Preview

December 27, 2017

More details have emerged for the D-King Grand Prix tournament taking place in January. At the end of “NEVER MIND 2017” on Christmas Eve, Konosuke Takeshita asked what would be the big prize for him because he is already the KO-D Openweight Champion and will most likely be the defending champion in the main event of “JUDGEMENT 2018” next March. The original announcement of the tournament was that the winner will get a main event KO-D Title shot on that show. DDT Producer Danshoku Dino revealed his intentions behind setting up the D-King GP. The winner will be “cast in the leading role” for DDT in 2018 so whoever wins the GP will become a major focal point of the company over the next 12 months. If that isn’t enough, a few days later the Assistant Producer Hisaya Imabayashi revealed that the winner will also receive 2,000,000 yen in prize money!

A press conference was held with all of the Japanese entrants making an appearance to comment on their chances in the tournament. Takeshita said he’s been satisfied by defending the KO-D Title in Korakuen Hall but there are many regions in Japan where the title has never been defended in. Some of those areas are on the tour schedule and while he is not defending the title in the tournament, he wants to wrestle in those towns as if the title is on the line every show. He thinks the strongest wrestler should win the Grand Prix and it doesn’t make sense if the champion is not the strongest.

The rest of Block A gave their opinions. For HARASHIMA it has been years since he last competed in a Round Robin tournament. He knows how much risk there is in suffering an injury because there have been times when he got hurt early in tournaments and could not complete his remaining matches. Keisuke Ishii sees the Grand Prix as an opportunity to end his current depressing run. He is confident he will win because his total singles record against his Block A opponents are 9 wins, 7 losses and 5 draws. Tetsuya Endo claims that he is only interested in fighting Jiro Kuroshio, nobody else. Masahiro Takanashi had spent his recent time wondering why he was put in the tournament because he is more of a 6-Man Tag Team specialist. He found out it was because KUDO is not in good enough condition to compete in a league format and Takanashi was nominated in his place. Now he realises he is the second most experienced wrestler in the tournament after HARASHIMA. When he looked at the poster for “JUDGEMENT 2018” that was when he found his answer. He believes he will face Kazusada Higuchi in the final. Jiro Kuroshio is happy for the opportunity and is excited for his matches. He wants to win the Grand Prix for himself rather than for WRESTLE-1.

Over in Block B the atmosphere is a bit different. Daisuke Sasaki has become depressed after losing the Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Title to Ken Ohka then failing to win the KO-D Tag Team Titles with Endo. He doesn’t think he will win the tournament. He feels so low that he thinks he will only win one match. He said this while looking at Shuji Ishikawa. Yukio Sakaguchi is delighted to take part because he gets to prove he is the clearly the strongest in DDT. Soma Takao is entering his first league competition and is counting on the experience he learned wrestling in All Japan to bring out his full potential. Akito already has his battle plans in place to beat all but one person in his block. The one man he can’t figure out is Ishikawa. If he can beat him then as far as he is concerned, winning the tournament is guaranteed. He desires to face his friend Takeshita on DDT’s biggest stage. Kazusada Higuchi is keeping it simple and will focus on one match at a time. He’ll defeat whoever steps in front of him then the main event spot in Sumo Hall will come naturally to him. Shuji Ishikawa thinks he had a good 2017 and wants to continue that momentum going into 2018.

Some questions were asked to the wrestlers by the wrestling press. Takeshita was asked which wrestler he is most looking forward to fighting. He said Kuroshio because it is a new generation DDT Vs WRESTLE-1 match. Kuroshio said he has a plan to beat Takeshita but he’s keeping it secret. Ishikawa was asked about having to fight his friend Sasaki. Ishikawa said it was a conspiracy by DDT to put them together in the same block. But he will fight Sasaki if he has to. Sasaki joked that Ishikawa only has three seconds to beat him. HARASHIMA was asked about Takeshita throwing around the words “New Generation” in his earlier comments. HARASHIMA has no thoughts in particular about it and he is only focusing on winning his matches. Endo was asked about being separated from DAMNATION and being alone in his block. Endo promised to give the prize money to Sasaki when he wins it.

Ishii was asked to provide more data about his singles record against the rest of Block A. He said he has 6 wins & 1 loss against Endo, 3 wins & 0 losses against Takanashi, 0 wins & 5 losses plus 1 draw against HARASHIMA, 1 loss & 1 draw against Takeshita. He has never wrestled singles matches against Kuroshio and Joey Ryan. Sakaguchi & Takanashi were asked about wrestling in KUDO’s place. Sakaguchi described the tournament as being different from King Of DDT which KUDO usually participates in. They are sorry that KUDO is unable to compete in the GP but he will be there to celebrate with them when they win.

Akito was asked about what Ishikawa’s potential strategy will be against him. Akito repeated that he cannot figure Ishikawa out. He has time to come up with something but right now he can’t see anything at all when he looks at him. Endo was asked about getting to fight Takeshita one on one again for the first time since “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2017”. He refused to give an answer. He doesn’t want to think about it until it happens. Finally, Ishikawa was asked if he has a blueprint in place for 2018. He said he has no such thing. He just does his best and the fans appreciate it. He doesn’t know if he will win the tournament but he will make the effort.

Neither of the two foreign entrants were in attendance so there are no comments available for Joey Ryan and Mike Bailey.

3. Ganbare☆Wrestling Vs DAMNATION Full Battle PART 1 ~Suyama Suyama Indies Dream~: Shuji Ishikawa & Mad Paulie defeated Shota & Yumehito Imanari when Ishikawa pinned Imanari with the Running Knee Lift (10:48).
4. Mao Hoshino Debut And Retirement Match: Cherry defeated Mao Hoshino with the Cherryton Bomb (9:49).
5. Ganbare☆Wrestling Vs DAMNATION Full Battle PART 2 ~Strongest Amateur Vs Jetty Whirlwind~: Tetsuya Endo defeated Shinichiro Tominaga with the Shooting Star Press (12:10).
6. Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Title – Ganbare☆Wrestling Vs DAMNATION Full Battle PART 3 ~Bet On All~: Ken Ohka defeated Daisuke Sasaki (c) with the Fire Spear (23:48).
*Daisuke Sasaki fails in V6. Ken Ohka becomes the 26th Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Champion!

At the beginning of today’s show, Ken Ohka gave a speech about how you are the leading role in the story of your life. Every match on the card featured wrestlers who are the protagonists of their own stories. For Ohka his story was putting everything on the line. His company, his family, his support. All to win back everything Daisuke Sasaki took from him including the Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Title. A few days earlier there was a chance that Ohka was going to lose this opportunity because Sasaki defended the title against TAKA Michinoku in K-DOJO. But Sasaki won that match and brought the belt back to Ganbare☆Wrestling for another title defence. That’s not all, this time Sasaki had the rest of DAMNATION backing him up. The unit distracted the referee so Sasaki could attack Ohka with a chair at ringside. Sasaki also took off one of the turnbuckle covers so he could throw Ohka into the exposed parts of the corner. Ohka kicked out of the Diving Hitman Elbow Drop and fired back with a Headbutt. He then countered the Cross Facelock into a Dragon Suplex. Sasaki blocked the Fire Spear but Ohka recovered and gave him a Vertical Drop Brainbuster. Ohka then hit the Fire Spear properly and that was enough to win the championship! Now everything Sasaki won from Ohka must be returned. Ohka told Sasaki he doesn’t care what he called him in the past. If Ohka is an amateur then he is okay with being called that. Instead what he cherishes most are the people most important to him like his family and everyone in Ganpuro. He invited the Ganpuro roster into the ring to celebrate defending the company from DAMNATION.

The rest of the DAMNATION matches didn’t go so well for Ganpuro. Shinichiro Tominaga lost to Tetsuya Endo in the battle of the high flyers. Tominaga did kick out of the Swivel Torture Rack Bomb. Endo had to use the Shooting Star Press to put him away.

Back in February of this year a woman named Mao Hoshino participated in a Ganpuro tryout and passed the audition. However her plans to become a pro wrestler were dashed when her parents objected to her choice of career. Not wanting to put all of her training to waste, it was decided that Hoshino would get to wrestle once before she moves on with her life. Her debut and retirement match was against her mentor Cherry. Hoshino hit a Perfect Plex for a nearfall but her second attempt at the move was countered. From there Cherry took control and won with the Cherryton Bomb. Cherry praised Hoshino for giving a strong performance and it is unfortunate that she isn’t able to continue. She wished Hoshino the best on her journey to discover herself. Ohka also said his piece and was happy to see how far Hoshino advanced with just a few months of training. She only wrestled once but Mao Hoshino will always be a member of Ganbare☆Wrestling. Hoshino thanked everyone for the opportunity and was given the 10 bell salute. The announcer introduced her as “a professional wrestler for 9 minutes and 49 seconds.”

The first Ganpuro Vs DAMNATION match of the show was Shota & Yumehito Imanari taking on the heavyweights Shuji Ishikawa & Mad Paulie. The Ganpuro team ambushed DAMNATION as they entered the ring but were easily swept aside. From there the home side fought an uphill battle. Shota & Imanari were able to take Ishikawa down with a Double Brainbuster. A Frog Splash followed by a Running Low Kick got them a nearfall. Ishikawa then cut them off with a Lariat and Mad Paulie came in to do a Double Choke Slam. Ishikawa grabbed Imanari by the hair and smashed him with Elbow Strikes before finishing him off with the Running Knee Lift.

HARUKAZE has finally gotten her win over Sumire Natsu and also her first win in Ganpuro! She focused on targeting Natsu’s arm, capturing her in Cross Armbreakers until she was in the position to reach back and grab Natsu’s other arm. The double Armbar is called Haru Ichiban and it was enough to make Natsu submit. HARUKAZE celebrated by calling herself the ace of Ganbare☆Joshi. She also thanked Natsu because their matches together helped to make her a stronger wrestler. She stuck her hand out but Natsu refused to shake it. She chose to raise HARUKAZE’s hand instead.

For the 3 Way Match, Shuichiro Katsumura came out wearing his Ganbare The Shooter mask. When the match began he unmasked, left the ring and found a chair to sit on while Yukihiro Abe and Chikara wrestled each other. He eventually got properly involved with the match and won it by choking out Abe with the Ninja Choke.

D-King Grand Prix 2018 Schedule

December 4, 2017

DDT is trying out a round robin tournament to set up the main event of their next Sumo Hall show in March. The D-King Grand Prix will have two blocks both consisting of seven wrestlers. The winners of each block face each other in the final and the tournament champion gets added to the main event of “JUDGEMENT 2018 ~DDT 21ST ANNIVERSARY~”. This is the first round robin DDT has done since the 2010 Young Drama Cup and I think the first on DDT’s main shows since the 2005 KO-D Tag League. Every block match has a 30 minute time limit, I assume the final will have no time limit. Every show during the group stage will have one or two non-tournament matches as well.

A Block

Konosuke Takeshita
HARASHIMA
Keisuke Ishii
Tetsuya Endo
Masahiro Takanashi
Joey Ryan
Jiro Kuroshio

B Block

Daisuke Sasaki
Yukio Sakaguchi
Soma Takao
Akito
Kazusada Higuchi
Mike Bailey
Shuji Ishikawa

1. Round System Drinking & Driving Match: Daisuke Sasaki defeated Masahiro Takanashi with the Tricycle Assisted Cross Facelock (R9 0:21).
2. Bull Rope Tag Match: Dave Crist & Shigehiro Irie defeated Yuko Miyamoto & Nobuhiro Shimatani when Crist pinned Shimatani with the Magdaline (11:27).
3. Lumberjack Match: Tetsuya Endo Vs Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi ended in a Double Countout (6:44).
3a. Rematch: Tetsuya Endo & Man Man Kai Kind defeated Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi & Nobuhiro Shimatani when Endo pinned Shimatani with the Swivel Torture Rack Bomb (4:37).
4. Daisuke Sasaki, Shuji Ishikawa & Mad Paulie defeated Antonio Honda, Rocky Kawamura & Tanomusaku Toba when Sasaki submitted Honda with La Mistica Cross Facelock (19:13).

DAMNATION had their turn for drinking and debauchery at Beer Garden today. In the main event Daisuke Sasaki led his team to beat the boxing (?) trio of Antonio Honda, Rocky Kawamura & Tanomusaku Toba. Sasaki introduced Shuji Ishikawa & Mad Paulie as his pets “Adrian” & “Paulie”. This confused Kawamura. Those two aren’t the Adrian and Paulie he knows of so he attacked them. But DAMNATION were too strong and Sasaki got the win in the end. Afterwards Sasaki explained to Kawamura that there are many Adrians and Paulies in the would and he isn’t Rocky! Sasaki closed out the show by saying Tetsuya Endo will win the KO-D Openweight Title, Ishikawa will stay as the Triple Crown Champion and he himself will keep the DDT Extreme Title. As for Paulie, maybe he will go fight in RIZIN.

A couple of “American” wrestlers were brought in to be lumberjacks for the Endo Vs Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi match. Man Man Kai Kind and Stone Cold Sekine Ryuichin got too invested in their roles and kept both Endo and Hiroshi out of the ring long enough to get both of them counted out. Man Man Kai Kind got on the microphone and told Hiroshi he will listen to him no more! Suddenly Nobuhiro Shimatani came in still wearing his bra and bounded in rope from his earlier match. He finally wants to settle his grudge with Endo now! The bell rang and it was now an impromptu tag match between Endo & Kind against Hiroshi & Shimatani. Sekine Ryuichin returned and gave Hiroshi the Stone Cold Stunnger. Endo pinned Shimatani to win then stripped him of his bra afterwards.

Everyone in the Bull Rope match wore rope bondage gear so the bull ropes could be attached to the wrestlers. I guess no dog collars were available. Shigehiro Irie & Dave Crist were victorious and Irie said they were part of one of the best teams in the world, OI4K!

The Drinking & Driving Match sounded funny on paper, right? Sasaki and Masahiro Takanashi would fight each other with bats in 30 second rounds while riding small tricycles and they would get to drink beer in between every round. What could go wrong? Well the tricycles wheels had too much grip on the ring canvas and the wrestlers were getting too drunk to function properly so nothing happened in the early rounds. By the 5th round they both decided to get off the tricycles and finally start fighting. At one point Sasaki was put in the Tree Of Woe against the corner. Takanashi then lined up a tricycle and kicked across the ring into Sasaki. In the 9th round Sasaki on his tricycle somehow put Takanashi in the Cross Facelock and made him submit.

9. Osaka Wrestling School Vs Kishiwada Gurentai – Challenge to Yukinobu ~ Special Tag Match: Konosuke Takeshita & Shigehiro Irie defeated “Big Boss” MA-G-MA & Black Buffalo when Takeshita pinned Buffalo with the Cross-Arm German Suplex (25:22).

DDT’s tribute to Osaka wrestling was headlined by their two top wrestlers from the region taking on two legendary figures. When Konosuke Takeshita & Shigehiro Irie got a match against Magnitude Kishiwada and Buffalo they wanted them in their original Osaka Pro forms, “Big Boss” MA-G-MA & Black Buffalo. They got their wish and their opponents made it clear they weren’t going to play nice. MA-G-MA & Buffalo attacked the DDT team the moment the bell rang. MA-G-MA put Takeshita through a table outside the ring with a Diving Body Press. However the tables turned when MA-G-MA accidentally Clotheslined Buffalo. Irie flattened Buffalo with a Running Cannonball into the corner. MA-G-MA did what he could to save Buffalo but soon ran out of chances. Takeshita then hit the Cross-Arm German Suplex to seal the victory.

Before the Osaka team left, MA-G-MA appealed to Takeshita for a singles match some day down the line. Takeshita and Irie showed admiration for their opponents and said it is now their own era of pro wrestling. When Takeshita was finished, Naomi Yoshimura came down to the ring to grab his attention. He said Takeshita forgot about someone. Yoshimura then went back to the entrance and brought out Takeshita’s mother, Keiko Takeshita! Yoshimura said he was stealing Keiko so her son won’t be able to eat any meals when he comes home. Keiko didn’t seem to mind because she was busy waving to the audience as they were chanting her name. Takeshita was annoyed but he can still protect his KO-D Openweight Title so please continue to support him. Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi closed out the show by singing “A Woman Born Is Osaka”.

Big men doing big moves was the theme of the other main event. Kazusada Higuchi stepped up to Shuji Ishikawa and wasn’t intimidated by the Triple Crown Champion. Back Drops, Lariats and even the Doctor Bomb could not win the match for Higuchi. Instead Ishikawa cut him off with a Knee Lift, a Sliding D, the Fire Thunder and then the Splash Mountain to finish it.

Dick Togo and Mad Paulie continued to fight each other at the end of the Wrestling Hunters Vs DAMNATION match. The rest of DAMNATION had to pull Paulie away from Togo. Save that energy for the Paulie Joshi, buddy.

Antonio Honda had the opportunity to join in with Kikutaro and Kuishinbo Kamen’s famous wrestling exchanges but was struck with anxiety. He was up all of last night thinking of “Gon, The Little Fox” as usual. This annoyed his opponents so they decided to fight Honda two on one with some nonsense along the way. Kikutaro tired himself out and Honda easily submitted him with a Crab Hold to win. Honda thanked both of his opponents for the match. Kikutaro said he would like to do it again whenever the cost of his flights from and to Nevada are cheap.

In a moment of true villainy, Super Sasadango Machine rummaged through Yuni’s carry case before their trios match. Inside he found the kid’s fidget spinner and he stole it! Sasadango taunted Yuni by playing with the spinner in the ring then challenged him to take it back with his strength. To make it worse, Sasadango then stuffed the spinner down the front of Danshoku Dino’s tights. Yuni got help from Makoto Oishi and Jun Kasai to beat Dino, Sasadango & Atsushi Maruyama. Oishi gave Sasadango a Stunner, Kasai then hit the Pearl Harbour Splash and Yuni got the pin with the Sky Twister Press from the 2nd turnbuckle. After the match Kasai reached into Dino’s tights, pulled out the spinner and gave it back to Yuni.

There was a problem about the Battle Royal that needed to be solved. The original plan was for the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championship to be defended in the match but the current champion Maho Kurone was nowhere to be found. Yukinori Matsui told Amon Tsurumi that there needed to be a prize to motivate the contestants. Tsurumi thought about it and came up with an idea. He took off his afro and handed it over to Matsui. You see, the afro represents the power held by the DDT General Manager. Tsurumi announced that the winner will become the GM for one day. This will allow the winner to make any match or personal request that they desire. Saki Akai won the Battle Royal without eliminating anybody. She was tied up into a ball by Hirata Collection A.T. and left alone afterwards. Hirata and Joey Ryan were the last wrestlers left fighting and they eliminated each other so Akai was declared the winner. After Tsurumi freed her, he gave her the afro and asked her not to throw it away because she will have to wear it on the day she becomes the GM.

Shunma Katsumata & MAO recorded a message for the DDT fans while they were away competing in the NOAH Jr. Tag League. Unfortunately the audio was indecipherable because there was a strong wind while they were recording outdoors.
