7. DDT UNIVERSAL Title: Yuki Ueno (c) Vs Shota

Shota is having a late career resurgence, winning the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles and Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Title in short succession. He believes that is why Yuki Ueno accepted his challenge for the DDT UNIVERSAL Title. Shota wants to become a leader of the independent scene in 2021 and travel around the world for wrestling. He thinks winning the UNIVERSAL Title will get him overseas bookings. Ueno didn’t want to end 2020 with him getting pinned by Shota so his new year resolution is to avenge that loss as soon as possible. He should respect Shota more and not look down on that result but as the UNIVERSAL Champion he has a standard to live up to. He must not let the title go to someone who can’t decide if he is indie or major.

Unless he shows up on 3rd January, this is Daisuke Sasaki’s return match from injury.

She also wants it to be a Street Fight because of the championship’s origins with FMW.

Ikuto Hidaka’s appearances in Ganpro this year was to show he still has a lot left in the tank despite his age. Keisuke Ishii wants to see it for himself after he beat Hidaka in a tag match a few days ago.

Saitama Wrestle Arena

1. Gake no Fuchi Joshi Vs Pocchari Joshi Full-Scale Competition: Miyako Matsumoto & Chris Brookes Vs Yumehito Imanari & Yuna Manase

After taking half a year off, Gake no Fuchi Joshi will be back in action. Miyako Matsumoto is currently looking for joshi trainees of all shapes and sizes so they can help her make the world a little bit more interesting. In August Matsumoto & Chris Brookes lost to the Pocchari Joshi team of Yumehito Imanari & Yuna Manase at a Bakuha Koshien show. The rematch under Gake no Fuchi Joshi rules promises to be a lot more crazier.

DDT “KAWASAKI STRONG 2021”, 14/02/2021
Culttz Kawasaki

1. KO-D 8-Man Tag Team Titles: Sanshiro Takagi, X, X & X Vs Shinya Aoki, X, X & X
2. Special 6-Man Tag Match: Super Delfin, Chris Brookes & Maki Itoh Vs MAO, Keigo Nakamura & Mirai Maiumi
3. KO-D Openweight Title: Tetsuya Endo (c) Vs Jun Akiyama

The D-Ou Grand Prix is over for another year and the winner Jun Akiyama gets the KO-D Openweight Title shot against Tetsuya Endo in February. Akiyama put over Endo and the KO-D Title huge by including Endo with Tetsuya Naito and Go Shiozaki as the only three champions that matter to him. Endo did beat Akiyama in their D-Ou group match so Akiyama needs to fight his heart out if he wants to win. Endo watched the final between Akiyama and Konosuke Takeshita, leaving him with some strong opinions. He can tell the difference between the two wrestlers. According to Endo, Takeshita only thinks about himself while Akiyama is thinking about the entire wrestling industry. Endo likes the praise of his title reign he is getting from Akiyama and it makes him proud of increasing the KO-D Title’s value. So when Endo beats Akiyama again in Culttz Kawasaki, he will call the KO-D Title the number one championship in Japan and himself the number one wrestler in Japan!

DDT “FRIENDSHIP, EFFORT, VICTORY IN NAGOYA 2021”, 23/02/2021
Nagoya Congress Center Event Hall

1. KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles: Akito, Kazuki Hirata & Shota (c) Vs Sanshiro Takagi, HARASHIMA & Danshoku Dieno

The Young Communication Generation want to defend the 6-Man Tag Titles against the top wrestlers in DDT. To them that means the top names from the generation before them.

The #STRONGHEARTS contingent of CIMA, T-Hawk, El Lindaman & Shigehiro Irie will be on the show. Although I don’t know if Irie will be associated with the group when it comes to the match making.

3. KO-D Openweight Title: Tetsuya Endo (c) Vs D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 Winner

The KO-D 10-Man Tag Team Titles have not been defended since November last year. Today the championship has been vacated because of inactivity and a temporary change is being made because of COVID-19. The championship will temporarily become the KO-D 8-Man Tag Team Titles and new champions will be crowned on 14th February. It is still part of the same title lineage as the 10-Man Tag Titles so the winners will be recognised as the 3rd champion team.

Sanshiro Takagi and Shinya Aoki will captain the two teams. Takagi says the 8-Man Tag matches will be fought with the same passion as the 10-Man Tag Matches. Aoki promised to get revenge on Takagi for humiliating him at “ULTIMATE PARTY 2020” last month.

Full TJPW Card For 4th January

December 18, 2020

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TOKYO JOSHI PRO ’21”, 04/01/2021
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Marika Kobashi & Moka Miyamoto Vs Pom Harajuku & Haruna Neko
2. Shoko Nakajima Vs Hyper Misao
3. Sakisama & Mei Saint-Michel Vs Hikari Noa & Sena Shiori
4. Aja Kong, Mizuki & Raku Vs Miu Watanabe, Nao Kakuta & Mirai Maiumi
5. Arisu Endo Debut Match: Suzume Vs Arisu Endo
6. Miyu Yamashita Vs Maki Itoh
7. Princess Tag Team Titles: Nodoka Tenma & Yuki Aino (c) Vs Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu
8. Princess Of Princess Title: Yuka Sakazaki (c) Vs Rika Tatsumi

The main event has a lot going for it. Yuka Sakazaki and Rika Tatsumi have known each other for years, even before they began training to be pro wrestlers. Seven years ago Sakazaki convinced Tatsumi to go train together so she is a special person in Tatsumi’s life. But for this match Tatsumi sees Sakazaki only as the Princess Of Princess Champion. Tatsumi wants to defeat “The Magical Girl who resembles Fudo Myoo” so she can transform from a White Dragon into a Dragon God!

According to the Toyo University Combo, their bond is more stronger than those between sisters. Yuki Kamifuku thinks she and Mahiro Kiryu are more like clones of the Toyo University founder Inoue Enryo’s daughter! The Bakuretsu Sisters don’t just want to make memories out of their Princess Tag Team Titles reign. They want to defend the belts as much as they can because it took them so long to win them.

Two years ago, Maki Itoh failed to beat Miyu Yamashita in the Ittenyon main event. It was a poor performance that at the time left her traumatized. Now she realizes it was not a setback but valuable experience. When she sticks up her middle finger it is a sign of confidence and determination. Itoh’s middle finger cannot be broken! Yamashita thinks this is a Tokyo Joshi Pro match that can appeal to the world. She’s letting Itoh do the talking now. When they get in the ring Yamashita will show her what she’s really got.

Arisu Endo is a 22 years old from Fukushima and is 150cm tall. She became a pro wrestler because she loves wrestling but is nervous to have her debut match. Endo’s favourite wrestler is Reika Saiki and she wants to become as cool as her. Suzume is looking forward to see what kind of wrestler Endo will be so she is happy to be her debut opponent.

Aja Kong is back! Mizuki is honored to team with her. Raku’s wrestling career is currently three years old. She thinks three year olds still need to take naps so she will do so. Miu Watanabe sees this match as a bridge between idols and pro wrestling. Nao Kakuta’s goal for 2021 is to win a championship so a win here will give her momentum. Mirai Maiumi wants to show the kind of brilliance in Korakuen Hall that only she can.

Sena Shiori has been frustrated by losing to NEO Biishiki-gun over and over since the unit returned and turned their attention to her. There’s nothing she can’t do with Hikari Noa which is why she thinks they can win. Noa is surprised she gets to team with Shiori in Korakuen so quickly. She wants to help her win her first match because it will happen on the first anniversary of Shiori’s debut.

In a rematch from last year’s Ittenyon, Shoko Nakajima and Hyper Misao will face off again. Last time the loser had to change their name for a month. Misao beat Misao and renamed her Akemi Daredasore. Misao has changed her name a few times in her career, even her private one because she recently got married but she hasn’t forgotten about that match. Which is why she wants the same stipulation for the rematch and have it become an annual gimmick for the Ittenyon show! Nakajima accepts the challenge because she has very few things to protect. She believes the more things a person needs to protect, the more weaknesses they have.

The opening match is between the two youngest generations in Tokyo Joshi. Marika Kobashi will be celebrating her 5th anniversary of her debut. Moka Miyamoto thinks she is the exact opposite of Kobashi but they can do their best as a tag team of active college students. Haruna Neko isn’t bothered by who is her juniors or seniors in the match. She just wants to win. Pom Harajuku felt she wasn’t able to work hard in 2020 so she wants to get 2021 off on the right track with a victory.

The live broadcast of the show will have separate streams. ABEMA will host the local broadcast with Haruo Murata and Sayoko Mita on commentary. WRESTLE UNIVERSE will provide live English commentary for the first time with Mark Pickering and Stewart Fulton on the headsets.

4. DDT Sauna Club Vs DAMNATION!: Konosuke Takeshita, Shunma Katsumata, MAO & Yuki Ueno Vs Tetsuya Endo, Soma Takao, Mad Paulie & Hiroshi Yamato (w/ Daisuke Sasaki)
5. Current Explosion Death Match: Atsushi Onita (w/ Sanshiro Takagi, Chris Brookes & Maki Itoh) Vs Kuro-chan (w/ Shinya Aoki, Super Sasadango Machine & Yuki Kamifuku)

Kuro-chan held a public training session with his helpers Shinya Aoki, Super Sasadango Machine & Yuki Kamifuku earlier today. Sasadango told Kuro-chan that to be a successful wrestler you need to figure out your opponent’s weaknesses. Atsushi Onita’s weakness is his knees. Aoki was there to teach Kuro-chan submission holds to target the knee. Kamifuku was the closest in size to Onita out of the four so she had to spar with Kuro-chan. They then immediately stopped because Kuro-chan was tempted to lick her knees. Aoki had to demonstrate the submissions on Kuro-chan instead. When that painful exercise was finished, Sasadango then told Kuro-chan he can in fact lick Onita’s knee to exploit his weakness! Sasadango explained Kuro-chan’s saliva can rust the artificial joints in Onita’s knees and ordered him to lick his own knee for practice. When asked to give a message to Onita, Kuro-chan threatened to lick and kill him!

The D-Ou Grand Prix finalists met for a press conference yesterday to comment on their upcoming rematch. Konosuke Takeshita said when he lost to Jun Akiyama at “ULTIMATE PARTY 2020” it left him questioning his wrestling ways. It hasn’t been easy for him to find the answer he was looking for. But soon he can get his revenge in order to truly lead DDT. Then he can stand across the ring from Tetsuya Endo and reignite their feud over the KO-D Openweight Title. Even though Takeshita has held the KO-D Title many times and holds the defence record, he never won a Tokyo Sports Award during that period (he only ever won Best Newcomer for his debut year). Endo on the other hand won the Best Skill category for this year. That is what’s motivating Takeshita to go after the title again. As for his injured left arm, Takeshita promises to be at 100% on the day of the final.

Akiyama said he didn’t reach the final on his own. He got here because of Junretsu, in particular Makoto Oishi. This final is just as much for him. Akiyama came to DDT alone and was quickly welcomed by Oishi leading to Junretsu’s formation. He realized the importance of the team and also having them in his circle of friends because of how much they helped him. But Akiyama thinks nothing has changed in the rivalry between himself and Takeshita.

DDT “GO TO DDT! VOL. 1”, 09/01/2021
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. KO-D Tag Team Titles: Kazusada Higuchi & Yukio Sakaguchi (c) Vs CIMA & Soma Takao

Eruption’s first KO-D Tag Team Titles defence will be against CimaSoma. The champions need to reclaim some shine after they unexpectedly lost the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles. The challengers meanwhile should be coming in hot after they beat HarashiMarufuji last month.

Culttz Kawasaki

1. Special 6-Man Tag Match: Super Delfin, Chris Brookes & Maki Itoh Vs MAO, Keigo Nakamura & Mirai Maiumi
2. KO-D Openweight Title: Tetsuya Endo (c) Vs D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 Winner

A special trio is coming together to face a team filled with Tohoku flavour. Maki Itoh has a regular column in Shukan Puroresu magazine and one of her articles revealed she became a fan of the late Gran Naniwa after seeing Chris Brookes post clips of him on Twitter. When Super Delfin found out about this from Naniwa’s father, he wanted to team with her whenever it was possible. This leads to the return of the Itoh Respect Army (the NEO part seems to be gone) to team with Delfin in Culttz Kawasaki next February. Itoh hopes she can learn the Swinging DDT from Delfin and would be grateful to become his disciple. Brookes, like any wrestling nerd, pointed to the 1994 Super J Cup to explain his original discovery of Delfin. The Tohoku part of this match also comes from their opponents. MAO is from Miyagi and is influenced by Michinoku Pro while Keigo Nakamura & Mirai Maiumi are both from Iwate.

Nagoya Civic Gymnasium 3rd Stadium

1. Yuki Aino & Nao Kakuta Vs Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu
2. Mizuki, Hyper Misao & Moka Miyamoto Vs Miu Watanabe, Hikari Noa & Raku
3. Christmas Special 6 Big Single Match: Suzume Vs Sena Shiori
4. Christmas Special 6 Big Single Match: Nodoka Tenma Vs Haruna Neko

6. Christmas Special 6 Big Single Match: Shoko Nakajima Vs Mirai Maiumi
7. Christmas Special 6 Big Single Match: Rika Tatsumi Vs Marika Kobashi
8. Christmas Special 6 Big Single Match: Yuka Sakazaki Vs Pom Harajuku

The random draw took place for the six special Christmas matches. Each match will have a 10 minute time limit. The one causing a stir is Miyu Yamashita Vs Maki Itoh because Itoh wanted the match to happen in Korakuen Hall on 4th January. She will get her way but still has to wrestle Yamashita in Nagoya this week. Yamashita said she is not interested in rematching with Itoh so soon unless she doesn’t beat her in Nagoya.

6. KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles: Akito, Kazuki Hirata & Shota (c) Vs Shunma Katsumata, MAO & Yuki Ueno
7. D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 – Final: Konosuke Takeshita vs Jun Akiyama

The final DDT show of the year will see the D-Ou Grand Prix winner crowned. Konosuke Takeshita gets his chance for revenge after losing to Jun Akiyama at “ULTIMATE PARTY 2020”. Akiyama recently made a point that DDT needs to decide if they really want to compete against New Japan. If they are willing to face the challenge head on, he will fight for them with everything he has. Could that be a hint Akiyama will stick with DDT after his loan period with them ends? I can’t imagine he will go back to All Japan after all of this.

The DDT Sauna Club gets a KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles match. The final visual we could see in a DDT ring this year is the warm and calming collection of Sauna Club wrestlers celebrating their success. It would ruin the Young Communication comeback show weeks before it takes place.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TOKYO JOSHI PRO ’21”, 04/01/2021
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Arisu Endo Debut Match: Arisu Endo Vs X
2. Miyu Yamashita Vs Maki Itoh
3. Princess Tag Team Titles: Nodoka Tenma & Yuki Aino (c) Vs Yuki Kamifuku & Mahiro Kiryu
4. Princess Of Princess Title: Yuka Sakazaki (c) Vs Rika Tatsumi

Itoh wants her match with Yamashita to happen in Korakuen for a couple of reasons. They headlined Korakuen on the 2019 Ittenyon show. Yamashita was also Itoh’s opponent when Itoh had her pro wrestling debut. Finally after all their matches together, Itoh has never beaten Yamashita. If she can finally beat her, Itoh said she will then challenge for the Princess Of Princess Title. This is all part of her efforts to spread the name of Tokyo Joshi Pro around the world in 2021.

Who Needs To Win What?

December 11, 2020

DDT “D-OU GRAND PRIX 2021 IN NARIMASU!”, 12/12/2020
Tokyo Narimasu Act Hall

1. 3 Way Tag Match: Mad Paulie & Nobuihiro Shimatani Vs Mizuki Watase & Hideki Okatani Vs Yukio Naya & Keigo Nakamura
2. D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 – B Block: Soma Takao (6) Vs Shunma Katsumata (2)
3. D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 – B Block: Yuki Ueno (6) Vs Jun Akiyama (6)
4. D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 – B Block: Tetsuya Endo (7) Vs Makoto Oishi (2)
5. D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 – A Block: Yukio Sakaguchi (6) Vs Akito (5)
6. D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 – A Block: MAO (4) Vs Chris Brookes (6)
7. D-Ou Grand Prix 2021 – A Block: Konosuke Takeshita (6) Vs HARASHIMA (7)

There’s the match order for the final matches in the group stage. So let’s grab a drink and figure out the paths that can play out. DDT only said a tiebreaker match will be held in case of a tie for first place. No mention of the direct confrontation rule so the previous results may not be as advantageous as they normally are. I am writing these paths assuming that the tiebreaker will happen no matter who finishes with the same amount of points. Also it’s a Friday night so if I’m wrong I’m not going to worry too much about it. Show’s on in a few hours time anyway.

A Block

1. HARASHIMA (7)
A win over Takeshita guarantees a spot in the final. A draw means getting into a tiebreaker with Chris Brookes and/or Yukio Sakaguchi if they win their matches. If they both fail to win in that situation then HARASHIMA gets a lucky escape.

2. Yukio Sakaguchi (6)
A win over Akito, HARASHIMA losing and Brookes failing to win gets Sakaguchi first place. If Sakaguchi gets a draw he needs HARASHIMA to lose and Brookes to not win in order to enter the tiebreaker.

2. Chris Brookes (6)
Brookes will finish first if he beats MAO, HARASHIMA loses and Sakaguchi fails to win. If Brookes gets a draw he needs HARASHIMA to lose and Sakaguchi to not win in order to enter the tiebreaker.

2. Konosuke Takeshita (6)
Needs to beat HARASHIMA to stay alive. Finishes on top if Brookes and Sakaguchi both fail to win. Otherwise it’s a tiebreaker.

5. Akito (5)
Any result of the main event prevents Akito from finishing first so he is eliminated. He ends Sakaguchi’s run if he beats him. Maybe even a draw.

6. MAO (4)
Cannot reach the final but can eliminate Brookes.

7. Daisuke Sasaki (2)
Completely out of it because of injury. Sorry for rubbing it in.

B Block

1. Tetsuya Endo (7)
Just needs to beat Oishi to win the block. A draw ties him with the winner of Ueno Vs Akiyama and Takao if he beats Katsumata. Endo still has a chance if he loses but that direction won’t be pretty.

1. Kazusada Higuchi (7)
This is the chaos path. Higuchi already wrestled all his matches. Only hope is if Endo loses, Takao doesn’t win and Ueno Vs Akiyama ends in a draw. That results in a massive 4 way or even 5 way tiebreaker.

3. Jun Akiyama (6)
Needs to beat Ueno, Endo loses and Takao loses. Akiyama Vs Ueno ending in a draw, Takao not winning and Endo losing leads to chaos.

3. Soma Takao (6)
Can squeak into the final if he beats Katsumata, Endo loses and Ueno Vs Akiyama ends in a draw. Otherwise Takao winning sends him to a tiebreaker against the winner of Akiyama Vs Ueno if Endo still loses.

3. Yuki Ueno (6)
Ueno’s in the same position as Akiyama. Just read his bit and swap their names around.

6. Makoto Oishi (2)
Won’t reach the final but can play one hell of a spoiler against Endo. Root for him if you want to see the the entire block turn on its head.

6. Shunma Katsumata (2)
Down and out but can ruin Soma Takao’s chances.

Onita Vs Kuro-chan Gets Some Helpers

December 10, 2020

5. Current Explosion Death Match: Atsushi Onita (w/ Sanshiro Takagi, Chris Brookes & Maki Itoh) Vs Kuro-chan (w/ Shinya Aoki, Super Sasadango Machine & Yuki Kamifuku)

Kuro-chan reluctantly accepts Atsushi Onita’s challenge for a Current Explosion Death Match but with some added conditions. The two met up at Tokyo Solamachi yesterday with Kuro-chan wanting to turn down the match. His excuse is he is just an amateur. Onita, armed with a current blast bat told Kuro-chan that this year’s dirt must be cleaned. He then forced Kuro-chan to sign the contract for the match. Onita then blew up a Christmas tree with a picture of Kuro-chan attached to it with the bat as an experiment. It was revealed later that the explosion level for the actual match will be triple the strength.

Onita said the match must happen because hundreds of thousands of fans will be watching. Kuro-chan wouldn’t betray them by no-showing, right? Kuro-chan agreed and requested he should bring some pro wrestlers to the match to help him. Sanshiro Takagi agreed and told Onita he should have some helpers too. Takagi immediately chose himself, Chris Brookes and Maki Itoh to be in Onita’s corner. Kuro-chan wanted to pick Jun Akiyama but he did not have his contact information. He thought about finding people who have grudges with Onita but ended up staying within the DDT stratosphere. In the end his helpers are Shinya Aoki, Super Sasadango Machine and Yuki Kamifuku.
