4. Soma Takao (0)
-. Mike Bailey (0)
-. Daisuke Sasaki (0)
-. Kazusada Higuchi (0)

Day one of the D-King Grand Prix kicked off with some big upsets in the opening round of matches. Jiro Kuroshio defeated Konosuke Takeshita in the main event. He took all that Takeshita could throw at him then countered the German Suplex into the Casadora for the surprise three count. A cheerful Kuroshio told Takeshita after the match he would see him again. Takeshita’s response was to raise his KO-D Openweight Title and give Kuroshio the middle finger.

Mike Bailey has only been in Japan for 5 days during his current stay and there’s already two times when he thought he was going to die in the ring. The first was from HARASHIMA’s Somato on the 3rd and the second was from Shuji Ishikawa kicking his head in today. Ishikawa used the Knee Lift to great effect in their match. He thinks that next to Yoshihiro Takayama, he is the best at using the move.

The second big upset on the show was Keisuke Ishii beating HARASHIMA! Ishii’s use of statistics in his preparations paid off when he knew HARASHIMA was setting him up for the Somato after a Buzzsaw Kick. Ishii got up and cut HARASHIMA off with the Kneel Kick. The struggle over to pin him took long enough for HARASHIMA to kick out but Ishii then gave him the Double Arm DDT for the finish. Ishii said that it took him 10 years to finally beat HARASHIMA because Ishii joined DDT in 2007. He will now use today’s result times of his match, Takeshita’s match and Tetsuya Endo’s match to prpare for his upcoming bouts against them.

The history between Akito and Daisuke Sasaki wasn’t forgotten when they squared off. Akito quickly grabbed Sasaki by the hair when the bell rang while Sasaki tried to apply the Cross Facelock as fast as he could. Poor Daisuke Kiso was stuck in the crossfire and was knocked down by a chairshot. Akito’s chance to win seemed to have disappeared when there was no ref to see Sasaki submitting to an Anklelock. Yukinori Matsui finally came down to replace Kiso and he saw Akito countering the Cross Facelock into an Arm Clutch Scorpion Lock. Sasaki had no choice but to tap out with his free hand. Akito said he will use the Grand Prix to get rid of all of the depression he accumulated over the last year. Backstage Sasaki had a mood swing and wanted to abstain from the rest of the tournament. He also threatened to cut off his own hair but he was talked out of it.

Masahiro Takanashi played dirty to try and beat Tetsuya Endo. He used the referee as a shield then kicked Endo below the belt during the confusion. Endo was still in the match though and he avoided the Takatonic to get the ref involved again. When that was sorted out, Endo hit the Tetsuya In The Sky to put Takanashi away. Takanashi was so flustered by the result he asked KUDO backstage to calculate his current standing. 1 loss, zero points. Takanashi thinks he’ll need to win his 6 remaining matches to succeed.

Yukio Sakaguchi wore down Kazusada Higuchi with the Cobra Clutch, only letting go when Higuchi tried to press him into the turnbuckles. Before Higuchi could get his breath back, Sakaguchi hit the Right Knee Of God to knock him down for the pin. It doesn’t matter how busy his match schedule is, Sakaguchi said he can win his block with his eyes closed.

-. Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title: Super Sasadango Machine defeated Colt Cabana (c) with a Flying Body Attack (8:40 pm).
*Super Sasadango Machine becomes the 1,286th champion.
7. Road To D-King GP Special 6-Man Tag Match: HARASHIMA, Kazusada Higuchi & Jiro Kuroshio defeated Konosuke Takeshita, Mike Bailey & Shuji Ishikawa when HARASHIMA pinned Bailey with the Somato (20:17).

With the D-King Grand Prix just days away from starting, six of the participants took part in the 6-Man Tag Team main event of 2018’s first DDT show. Jiro Kuroshio is already testing the patience of some wrestlers with his long entrance that this time involved the unwilling participation of a small child. Konosuke Takeshita in particular made Kuroshio his target in the match. Elsewhere Shuji Ishikawa and Kazusada Higuchi squared off in a power battle while HARASHIMA had his hands full with Mike Bailey. It all built up to unlikely team moves like Takeshita doing a Codebreaker on HARASHIMA then holding him down for a Body Press from Ishikawa followed by the Standing Double Knee Moonsault from Bailey. However, HARASHIMA avoided the Ultima Weapon from Bailey and pinned him with two Somatos.

HARASHIMA was about to give his victory speech when Kuroshio grabbed the microphone and gave his own speech. He said he was happy to be in the tournament and is looking forward to beating up Takeshita even more. Higuchi threatened to rampage his way through the block to the final. He is happy to see that Ishikawa is even stronger than ever and looks forward to fighting him. Ishikawa asked if Higuchu knows how many championships he has won? Ishikawa guarantees he will win the GP because he is at his best. Bailey said the Somato he took made him understand his wrestling career could end at any moment. But if it does end it will be when Bailey fights HARASHIMA in the final. Takeshita told Kuroshio he will make his handsome face look awkward when they fight again. HARASHIMA said he will win the league and headline Sumo Hall. As usual. He tried to close out the show but Kuroshio stole all the attention again by posing in front of him.

Daisuke Sasaki is sick of Antonio Honda telling his “Gon, The Little Fox” stories. He told Honda his goal for 2018 should be to give up telling them. Colt Cabana backed up Honda by going along with his story and joining in with his antics. They performed the Superman Dive together for a double nearfall. But it all went wrong when a double Bionic Elbow ended with them hitting each other. Tetsuya Endo took advantage with the Springboard Overhead Kick and then won the match with the Shooting Star Press on Honda.

After the match Cabana was attacked by Nobuhiro Shimatani because he wanted to win the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title. Cabana fought him off but then Super Sasadango Machine came in and pinned Cabana with a Cross Body Block. Cabana tried to win the title back at the end of the show but failed.

The NωA had to fight for their lives against Danshoku Dino and the Brahman Brothers. They were told by the brothers before the match that they would fall into Hell! What followed was a brawl between both sides that moved into the audience. The Brahmans took out a mixer and blended together a liquid made out of beer, boiled egg, natto and raw squid. They considered throwing it into the audience but they poured it over Yuki Ueno instead. NωA turned the tables and used the Brahmans’ own tricks against them including throwing the bowling ball and suitcase at them and spitting the black India Ink at their faces. They then attacked Dino with a piece of wood up the backside and pinned him with the Triple Ecstasy. The NωA are now allowed to break up and their final match will take place on 28th January. They asked for T2Hide to be their final opponents. All of T2Hide came down to the ring crying with happiness over being chosen.

In the second D-King GP preview of the night, Soma Takao beat Masahiro Takanashi. He countered the Takatonic into the Endless Waltz series of rolling pin attempts, constantly rolling Takanashi into another pin until he finally got the three count. Takao thinks the move will help him immensely in the tournament. Just using today’s match as an example, the Endless Waltz got Takao a total of 10 pin counts, that’s enough for three wins. Takao hopes the Endless Waltz along with the Gin And Tonic will help him win both the Grand Prix in January and also All Japan’s Junior Heavyweight league in February.

Two years ago a calligrapher named Nachu was invited over to DDT to paint Kakizome new year messages on the backs of the wrestlers. She came back this year so it could be done again. The rule of the Battle Royal was every wrestler had a “Prohibited Skill” painted on their back. If the wrestler performed the skill during the match they would be disqualified. But since it was painted on their backs they did not know what their banned skill was. So the wrestlers all tried to bait each other into doing their prohibited moves. One of the entrants was Joey Axl, a pro wrestler from Australia. He appeared during the show opening ceremony unbeknown to the rest of the roster. It was only when Hisaya Imabayashi noticed him standing next to the other foreign wrestlers that he introduced himself and asked to wrestle in DDT. It was decided he would be added to the Battle Royal.

Sadly for Axl he was the first one eliminated. His prohibited skill was speaking Japanese and he was tricked into saying “Ichiban!” after he overpowered his opponents. Nobuhiro Shimatani was out when he climbed the turnbuckle to do a high flying attack. Tomomitsu Matsunaga was not allowed to say his name in the manner of the RVD/Toru Yano taunt that he likes to do. He teased doing it first but later did it for real to get eliminated. Joey Ryan was tricked into speaking English when Gorgeous Matsuno told him he had a small dick. Sanshiro Takagi was out after he gave Gota Ihashi a Stunner. Matsuno wasn’t allowed to do his Gorgeous Star☆Elbow. It took him several attempts to do the move because he kept getting tangled into the ropes mid-move. He finally did it with Keisuke Ishii’s help but that meant he was now out of the match. Ihashi did his Moonsault but he wasn’t supposed to. He also missed. Super Sasadango Machine eliminated Mad Paulie by making him laugh. Sasadango unmasked himself to show he was wearing similar facepaint as Paulie. It made Paulie so happy that he laughed. Finally Sasadango eliminated himself by doing a Cross Body to Ishii. Ishii was declared the winner because he avoided doing his prohibited skill, performing a combination attack with another wrestler.

The Infomercial Match was supposed to begin with a trailer for the upcoming movie LADY NINJA: A Blue Shadow which features Yukio Sakaguchi and Saki Akai in supporting roles. However Kazuki Hirata stopped the trailer because he wanted to dance with the movie’s lead star Mai Hakase instead. Hakase appeared with Shuten-dōji wearing her movie character’s costume. Sakaguchi got so mad at Hirata for his behaviour that Toru Owashi & Veda Scott bailed from the apron and left Hirata alone in the ring with him to get beaten up. Later in the match Hirata challenged Hakase to a duel. Hakase pulled out her prop sword and looked to have bested Hirata until he knocked her out with a sudden karate chop. Sakaguchi stole the Hirata Go! glasses and danced his way into beating up Hirata again to win the match. With Hirata defeated, the movie trailer was allowed to be shown. Afterwards Hakase, Sakaguchi and Akai spoke about their experiences during the making of the movie. Hakane said that she was afraid of Sakaguchi when they first met and she wanted to run away when it was time for them to film their fight scene. But he was able to work with her shyness and it turned out fine. She also said Akai was really strong when they filmed their scenes together. Next time she’d like to see her get a role as a sexy ninja.

Akito’s tune up match for the GP was against the rookie Yuki Ueno. While it wasn’t a big challenge for Akito, he felt it was a good way to prepare for the tournament. He was also nicely surprised by how well Ueno wrestled in the match. He’s pleased to see the younger wrestlers in DDT growing up in the ring and thinks he can teach them stuff that other wrestlers in the company cannot.

The wrestlers in the pre-show match all yelled “Happy New Year!” mid-move to each other at some point. Rekka & Hoshitango worked well together and did a lot of damage to Daiki Shimomura. Their big move involved Rekka climbing onto Hoshitango’s back then Hoshitango doing a Splash onto Shimomura with Rekka still on top of him. Mizuki Watase stopped the pin but once they got rid of him it was easy pickings for Rekka to finish off Shimomura.

It was announced that The Great Muta will appear at “JUDGEMENT 2018” in Sumo Hall on 25th March!

D-King Grand Prix 2018 Preview

December 27, 2017

More details have emerged for the D-King Grand Prix tournament taking place in January. At the end of “NEVER MIND 2017” on Christmas Eve, Konosuke Takeshita asked what would be the big prize for him because he is already the KO-D Openweight Champion and will most likely be the defending champion in the main event of “JUDGEMENT 2018” next March. The original announcement of the tournament was that the winner will get a main event KO-D Title shot on that show. DDT Producer Danshoku Dino revealed his intentions behind setting up the D-King GP. The winner will be “cast in the leading role” for DDT in 2018 so whoever wins the GP will become a major focal point of the company over the next 12 months. If that isn’t enough, a few days later the Assistant Producer Hisaya Imabayashi revealed that the winner will also receive 2,000,000 yen in prize money!

A press conference was held with all of the Japanese entrants making an appearance to comment on their chances in the tournament. Takeshita said he’s been satisfied by defending the KO-D Title in Korakuen Hall but there are many regions in Japan where the title has never been defended in. Some of those areas are on the tour schedule and while he is not defending the title in the tournament, he wants to wrestle in those towns as if the title is on the line every show. He thinks the strongest wrestler should win the Grand Prix and it doesn’t make sense if the champion is not the strongest.

The rest of Block A gave their opinions. For HARASHIMA it has been years since he last competed in a Round Robin tournament. He knows how much risk there is in suffering an injury because there have been times when he got hurt early in tournaments and could not complete his remaining matches. Keisuke Ishii sees the Grand Prix as an opportunity to end his current depressing run. He is confident he will win because his total singles record against his Block A opponents are 9 wins, 7 losses and 5 draws. Tetsuya Endo claims that he is only interested in fighting Jiro Kuroshio, nobody else. Masahiro Takanashi had spent his recent time wondering why he was put in the tournament because he is more of a 6-Man Tag Team specialist. He found out it was because KUDO is not in good enough condition to compete in a league format and Takanashi was nominated in his place. Now he realises he is the second most experienced wrestler in the tournament after HARASHIMA. When he looked at the poster for “JUDGEMENT 2018” that was when he found his answer. He believes he will face Kazusada Higuchi in the final. Jiro Kuroshio is happy for the opportunity and is excited for his matches. He wants to win the Grand Prix for himself rather than for WRESTLE-1.

Over in Block B the atmosphere is a bit different. Daisuke Sasaki has become depressed after losing the Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Title to Ken Ohka then failing to win the KO-D Tag Team Titles with Endo. He doesn’t think he will win the tournament. He feels so low that he thinks he will only win one match. He said this while looking at Shuji Ishikawa. Yukio Sakaguchi is delighted to take part because he gets to prove he is the clearly the strongest in DDT. Soma Takao is entering his first league competition and is counting on the experience he learned wrestling in All Japan to bring out his full potential. Akito already has his battle plans in place to beat all but one person in his block. The one man he can’t figure out is Ishikawa. If he can beat him then as far as he is concerned, winning the tournament is guaranteed. He desires to face his friend Takeshita on DDT’s biggest stage. Kazusada Higuchi is keeping it simple and will focus on one match at a time. He’ll defeat whoever steps in front of him then the main event spot in Sumo Hall will come naturally to him. Shuji Ishikawa thinks he had a good 2017 and wants to continue that momentum going into 2018.

Some questions were asked to the wrestlers by the wrestling press. Takeshita was asked which wrestler he is most looking forward to fighting. He said Kuroshio because it is a new generation DDT Vs WRESTLE-1 match. Kuroshio said he has a plan to beat Takeshita but he’s keeping it secret. Ishikawa was asked about having to fight his friend Sasaki. Ishikawa said it was a conspiracy by DDT to put them together in the same block. But he will fight Sasaki if he has to. Sasaki joked that Ishikawa only has three seconds to beat him. HARASHIMA was asked about Takeshita throwing around the words “New Generation” in his earlier comments. HARASHIMA has no thoughts in particular about it and he is only focusing on winning his matches. Endo was asked about being separated from DAMNATION and being alone in his block. Endo promised to give the prize money to Sasaki when he wins it.

Ishii was asked to provide more data about his singles record against the rest of Block A. He said he has 6 wins & 1 loss against Endo, 3 wins & 0 losses against Takanashi, 0 wins & 5 losses plus 1 draw against HARASHIMA, 1 loss & 1 draw against Takeshita. He has never wrestled singles matches against Kuroshio and Joey Ryan. Sakaguchi & Takanashi were asked about wrestling in KUDO’s place. Sakaguchi described the tournament as being different from King Of DDT which KUDO usually participates in. They are sorry that KUDO is unable to compete in the GP but he will be there to celebrate with them when they win.

Akito was asked about what Ishikawa’s potential strategy will be against him. Akito repeated that he cannot figure Ishikawa out. He has time to come up with something but right now he can’t see anything at all when he looks at him. Endo was asked about getting to fight Takeshita one on one again for the first time since “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2017”. He refused to give an answer. He doesn’t want to think about it until it happens. Finally, Ishikawa was asked if he has a blueprint in place for 2018. He said he has no such thing. He just does his best and the fans appreciate it. He doesn’t know if he will win the tournament but he will make the effort.

Neither of the two foreign entrants were in attendance so there are no comments available for Joey Ryan and Mike Bailey.

DDT invaded the CyberAgent head office into Tokyo during work hours to cause some havoc among their new owners. Danshoku Dino led the squad of Super Sasadango Machine, Makoto Oishi and Reika Saiki into the building with one goal in mind. Dino wanted to kiss the CyberAgent president Susumu Fujita! Dino is convinced Fujita is gay and kissing him in public will not only prove it but also transfer important company stock over to Dino in the process. Then Dino can change the name of the company to GayBarAgent. The squad met with an employee named Mr. Saito at the entrance. It was Saito’s task to follow them around for the day and make sure the DDT wrestlers don’t cause too much trouble. He gave them a key card giving them access to Fujita’s office on the 4th floor, so they went on their way.

When they entered the office they were greeted by Sanshiro Takagi on a monitor! Takagi told them that the 4th Floor was considered a No Go Zone so they had to move up to the 5th Floor. When Dino’s team arrived they were confronted by Takagi, Toru Owashi & Yuki Ueno. Takagi yelled at the top of his voice that Dino’s squad were an inconvenience to the CyberAgent staff who were trying to get on with their work day. He will only allow Dino’s team to advance if they could beat his team in a match. Oishi summoned the rest of NωA and they sang a song on the office desks. DDT referees and the announce team suddenly appeared in the room and the first match of the day began. Takagi’s team attempted some wrestling moves on NωA but the office surroundings made it a bit difficult. The wrestlers found a bunch of boxes and cardboard to attack each other with. MAO pinned Ueno with a School Boy to give Dino’s team the win. Dino kissed a nearby employee and stole his access card for the 6th Floor. Shunma Katsumata told Dino to go on without them.

Dino moved on to the 6th Floor with Reika Saiki by his side. There they found Aja Kong, Gota Ihashi and DJ Nira! Kong said she was waiting around for Fujita because she wanted to go to dinner with him. Nira said he wanted to leave but Kong knocked him out. Saiki told Dino to leave Kong to her and Match #2 began. Saiki tried to knock Kong down with a Shoulder Block but Kong withstood the attack. She kicked Saiki away. Ihashi then stepped in wanting a piece of Saiki. He tried to hug her but Saiki kicked Ihashi into Dino. The staff were horrified when Dino performed the Danshoku Nightmare on Ihashi. Kong stopped him by hitting him with a steel can. Ihashi made a grave mistake when he tried to grab Saiki but grabbed Kong by her breasts instead. Kong hit him with the Uraken. Saiki then gave Ihashi the Shining Wizard and got the three count. Kong handed Dino the card for the 7th Floor.

Tiredness began to effect Dino and he struggled to walk up the stairs to the next floor. When he arrived Takagi was there again. Takagi said he brought along a tremendous teacher to stop Dino. It’s the Heisei Terrorist, Big Kazunari Murakami! Luckily for Dino, Sasadango came to the rescue. He had the perfect plan to take care of Murakami. They all sat down to look at a PowerPoint presentation titled “Consideration On Management Of Street Wrestling In The Office”. Sasadango said the wrestling matches were too noisy and negatively effecting staff productivity. This could lead to bankruptcy! Sasadango and Murakami agreed to fight in a Noise Pervention Death Match. They would be penalised for making noise during the match. Whoever gets penalised three times would be the loser. Murakami put Sasadango in an Achilles Tendon Lock. Sasadango yelped in pain so 1 point was taken from him. Murakami then put Sasadango in a Sleeper Hold. Sasadango found some pepper and placed it up to Murakami’s nose to make him sneeze. 1-1. Murakami found an umbrella and used it to put Sasadango in a Crossface. Sasadango dragged himself over to a female employee’s desk and grabbed her shoes. He placed one of the shoes up to Murakami’s nose and he started to sniff it. Murakami was so excited he shouted “The Best!” and lost his 2nd point. Sasadango then lost his 2nd point when he found a bookshelf with Slam Dunk manga in it and he excitedly read a page out loud. Murakami won the match when he poured a bucket of water from a restroom over Sasadango, making him scream in agony. Dino feared that his mission was over but Sasadango told Murakami that this match was a test and he passed. He offered Murakami a job in GayBarAgent with an annual salary of 6.8 million yen along with private theatre screenings. Murakami wasn’t sure. Dino then gave him the pair of women’s shoes. Murakami said he doesn’t care about money but he’ll take the shoes. He then gave Dino the card for the 8th Floor.

Takagi was waiting for Dino again on the 8th floor. This time he had a different plan in mind. Dino couldn’t achieve his mission on brute force alone. He’ll have to use his smarts too. Match #4 will be a quiz! Saiki reappeared and with her was BASARA’s wrestling lawyer, Gouma Ryu. They were up for the challenge. Their opponents were Saki Akai & Miyu Yamashita. To put it mildly the quiz went bad for Takagi’s team. Akai & Yamashita tried to warm themselves up mentally by saying the days of the week in English but struggled when they got to Wednesday. They proceeded to not get a single question right while Dino’s team were correct with every answer. Even when the last question was rigged to give Takagi’s team more points for a correct answer than the entirety of Dino’s team score they couldn’t pull it off. With the quiz won, Dino went up to the 9th Floor.

There was still no sign of President Fujita. Instead on the 9th floor there was Daisuke Sasaki & Tetsuya Endo lazing around on a sofa. Sasaki had a card key and he was willing to sell it to Dino. Before Dino could answer, the NωA returned and challenged DAMNATION to a match. Sasaki & Endo lifted up the couch and ran over Oishi & MAO with it. They then fought into the kitchen where Sasaki pushed MAO into the fridge. Back in the office Endo climbed on top of a desk and hit the Shooting Star Press on both NωA wrestlers for the win. Sasaki told Dino afterwards that he was hired for 30,000 yen. Dino collected 43,000 yen from the employees around the office and offered it for the key card. Sasaki refused. Dino then got another 32,000 yen from Mr. Saito and this time Sasaki accepted the deal.

Dino was hoping to relax on the 10th Floor but he came across Kazusada Higuchi & Hoshitango doing sumo training. They challenged Dino to a Sumo Match. Ken Ohka appeared and accepted the challenge on Dino’s behalf. When he couldn’t win, he and Dino then asked for a normal wrestling match because they are all pro wrestlers. The sumo wrestlers put them in Argentine Backbreakers but Dino escaped and gave Higuchi the Lip Lock. He then hit the Danshoku Driver to win. However none of the sumo wrestlers had a key card. The employees in the room told Dino that President Fujita was down on the 3rd Floor. So down he went.

The doors to the 3rd Floor were locked so Dino, Sasadango & Oishi went in search of an employee with the key card. He found Fujita’s secretary and noticed his key card had the word “President” written on it. He used it to open the door and inside was an office with President Fujita sitting right there. Finally! Dino approached Fujita and told him it was time for CyberAgeny to become GayBarAgent! But before he could put his plan in motion, Mr. Saito stopped Dino! Saito confessed that he was a spy for Fujita all this time. Then Takagi appeared out of nowhere with a cylinder filled with sleeping gas. He sprayed it at Dino and his squad making them all fall asleep. Takagi and Fujita then escaped the office.

A while later Dino woke up and discovered his crew were now on the 13th Floor. There with them were Konosuke Takeshita, Akito & Keisuke Ishii. Takeshita told Dino they were on his side. With new allies, Dino went back on the search for Fujita. They came across Yukio Sakaguchi & Tanomusaku Toba who refused to let them pass. Takeshita & Akito challenged them to a fight around the office. ALL OUT came out victorious then quickly apologised to the staff for fighting on all of their desks. Sakaguchi gave Dino the 12th Floor key card as a Christmas gift.

Dino found Sasadango on the 12th floor but Sasadango was frightened. Why? Because Jun Kasai was there in a business suit holding a barbed wire baseball bat! Kasai approached them but was cut off by Isami Kodaka. Kodaka warned him to leave but Kasai pulled out the 11th Floor key card. He’ll put it on the line in a Hardcore Match! Kasai and Kodaka created chaos by hitting each other with computer keyboards and putting each other through tables. Kodaka even gave Kasai a brainbuster on one of the office desks that would not break under them. The fight took so much out of both that neither could get up so it ended as a Double KO. Kodaka used the last of his strength to give Kasai’s key card to Dino.

The work day was nearing its end and Dino was nearing his breaking point. But there was a light at the end of the tunnel on the 11th Floor. Dino arrived to meet Takagi one more time. Takagi saved his best and strongest defenders to last. Out walked Jiro Kuroshio & Keiji Muto! Takagi said with the power of pro wrestling they will never be defeated! Dino was backed up by Takeshita & Ishii for the final battle on the open office floor. Takeshita and Kuroshio went at each other knowing that they will soon face off in the D-King Grand Prix. Takagi held Dino for Muto so he could do the Shining Wizard. But Dino moved out of the way and Takagi took the blow! Dino went for the Lip Lock on Muto but Muto pulled Kuroshio into harm’s way. That didn’t work and Dino got Muto with a second Lip Lock. Takeshita hit Takagi with a Knee Strike then served him up to Dino for the True Danshoku Driver. 1…2…3! Dino vanquished the last of his enemies and could now finally get his hands on President Fujita. Muto didn’t want to let Dino go but everyone else held him back.

Dino made the long journey back down to the 3rd Floor so he could confront President Fujita. He entered the room but the only person there was Mr. Saito. Dino was too late. President Fujita had already left. Dino listened to Saito laughing at his failure but took it in his stride. Dino knows that his wrestling style draws many criticisms but it is his duty as a gay wrestler to laugh it off and be himself. Today’s mission wasn’t a failure because it attracted a large audience on AbemaTV, giving DDT and their style of pro wrestling so much attention. Even Takagi agreed. Dino couldn’t take away Fujita’s lips, but he did take everyone’s hearts in the audience. Mr. Saito said he was looking forward to DDT’s next mission. The broadcast ended with a title: “Finish The Lips Of Susumu Fujita Again! The Great Battle Of Shinjuku!”

D-King Grand Prix 2018 Schedule

December 4, 2017

DDT is trying out a round robin tournament to set up the main event of their next Sumo Hall show in March. The D-King Grand Prix will have two blocks both consisting of seven wrestlers. The winners of each block face each other in the final and the tournament champion gets added to the main event of “JUDGEMENT 2018 ~DDT 21ST ANNIVERSARY~”. This is the first round robin DDT has done since the 2010 Young Drama Cup and I think the first on DDT’s main shows since the 2005 KO-D Tag League. Every block match has a 30 minute time limit, I assume the final will have no time limit. Every show during the group stage will have one or two non-tournament matches as well.

A Block

Konosuke Takeshita
HARASHIMA
Keisuke Ishii
Tetsuya Endo
Masahiro Takanashi
Joey Ryan
Jiro Kuroshio

B Block

9. KO-D Openweight Title – Good Com Asset Presents: Konosuke Takeshita (c) defeated Tetsuya Endo with the Cross Arm German Suplex (29:02).
*V7 for Konosuke Takeshita.

Konosuke Takeshita overcame his toughest challenge yet to achieve his 7th defence of the KO-D Openweight Title! The grudge match against Tetsuya Endo was the headline attraction for DDT’s return to Sumo Hall. Last time the two fought to an hour long draw but this time, Takeshita was able to defeat Endo in just under 30 minutes. Endo did hit the Torture Rack Bomb, the Shooting Star Press and both versions of Tetsuya In The Sky but Takeshita kicked out of all of them. Endo also reversed a Tombstone Piledriver on the ramp during an outside attack. In return, Takeshita hit Lariats, Big Boots, Pump Up Knee Strikes, German Suplexes and the Blue Thunder Bomb but Endo kicked out of them. Finally, Takeshita crossed Endo’s arms over for one last German Suplex and that one brought an end to the match. Takeshita wanted to show good sportsmanship to Endo after the match but Endo spat in his face and was carried away from the ring by DAMNATION.

Takeshita thanked the fans for coming to Sumo Hall and supporting him. His victory speech was interrupted by the new DDT Producer, Danshoku Dino. Coming out wearing a peach colored suit jacket over his wrestling gear, Dino congratulated Takeshita and said that part of his new job is to come up with new challenges for the champion. Dino told Takeshita he will defend the KO-D Title on 24th September against another champion. Out came Ken Ohka with his Independent World Jr. Heavyweight Title! Takeshita accepted the challenge and wanted Ohka to put his title on the line too in a unification match, one on one. Dino looked surprised. He never said Takeshita and Ohka would be in a singles match. It’s going to be a 3 Way Match with a third champion involved. Daisuke Sasaki entered the ring with his DDT Extreme Title. He wasn’t happy with the idea but if it means getting revenge on Takeshita for beating Endo, then so be it. With that decided, everyone left Takeshita alone in the ring to finish the show closing speech. Five years ago, 17 year old Takeshita had his debut match in Budokan Hall. Fast forward to today and 22 year old Takeshita is making DDT grow bigger in both mind and body!

It was a new song but the same old story for Shigehiro Irie. He just can’t beat HARASHIMA. Irie and Kazusada Higuchi came out to Irie’s new entrance music “T2” (“Tachimukau Ver.2”) by Kinniku Shojo Tai. He even had the support of the band’s main vocalist Kenji Otsuki sitting at ringside for the match. But HARASHIMA had Naomichi Marufuji on his team and Marufuji kept Higuchi at bay with their Chop Battles. Irie did what he could to put away HARASHIMA but nothing worked. Irie readied himself for one last Beast Bomber but was cut off by Marufuji. Irie was then pinned after the Shiranui from Marufuji followed by the Somato by HARASHIMA. As the new KO-D Tag Team Champions celebrated, Irie went over to Otsuki and cried for forgiveness. Higuchi also apologised to Irie but Irie wouldn’t let him take the blame.

HARASHIMA & Marufuji’s celebration was then cut short by Dino, who introduced himself to Marufuji. Dino said he wants to provide a dream match for the next Tag Title defence and it will involve the two wrestlers who best represent DDT. Himself and Sanshiro Takagi! Dino also wants Marufuji to experience the kind of match only DDT can provide. So on 20th September, HARASHIMA & Marufuji will defend the KO-D Tag Team Titles against Dino & Takagi inside the Miyagi Iron Works for a Factory Pro Wrestling Match! Marufuji was taken aback by the announcement and referred to the NOAH president Masayuki Uchida at ringside for his opinion. “No problem!”, Uchida said. Welcome to DDT, Marufuji.

Daisuke Sasaki and Akito fought in a crazy Hardcore Submission Hair Vs Hair Match for the DDT Extreme Title. Akito came out with new wrestling gear but focused all of his attention to the task at hand. Sasaki meanwhile lived it up by walking to the ring with two blonde haired foreign women for his entrance. The match became dangerous in between the submissions when a table, ladder and chairs were all brought into the ring. Akito used the chairs to attack Sasaki by the legs. Sasaki hit back with a major move, placing Akito sitting on a chair outside the ring then jumping off the ladder from inside the ring for the Super Diving Elbow! Back in the ring Sasaki laid Akito down inside the ladder and hit a chair-assisted Diving Elbow from the top rope. Akito returned fire by putting Sasaki through the table from the ladder. He put Sasaki in the Scorpion Lock but let it go when Mad Paulie jumped onto the apron for a distraction. Sasaki swung a chair at Akito but he ducked and Paulie took the shot instead. Akito tried to give Sasaki the Double Knee Buster but it was countered into a DDT onto the chair. Sasaki then found a guitar and smashed it over Akito’s head. Finally, Sasaki made Akito submit to La Mistica Cross Facelock with a chair wrapped around Akito’s head pulling back for extra damage.

Sasaki took joy from slowly cutting off pieces of Akito’s hair with clippers until Akito grabbed an electric shaver and shaved off the remaining hair himself.

Company power versus romantic freedom were on the line when Sanshiro Takagi and Danshoku Dino fought in a Weapons Rumble. If Dino won he would be given complete control of booking DDT shows. If Takagi won then Dino would have to go find a romantic partner and get married. The early weapons brought into the match included a barbed wire baseball bat, a vibrating massager also wrapped in barbed wire which Dino stuffed behind Takagi’s shorts, a gigantic marriage document which Takagi forced Dino to sign and Takagi’s Rolex watch which Dino smashed to pieces with the baseball bat. The next “weapon” turned out to be Kendo Kashin but he was immediately attacked by Mitsuo Momota with Chikara accompanying him. Their planned match at 6:30am never took place so DDT decided to begin the match here and now. It was called off when Dino and his friends assaulted the referee assigned to the Kashin Vs Momota match. Kashin promoted the next All Japan show in Sumo Hall to be held on 27th August and then left. Dino’s friends were then distracted by the appearance of the Macho 29 dance troupe so that got rid of them. Dino then had an old video of a drunk Takagi stripping naked during a fan event play over the arena screen. Takagi had a mental breakdown until his secret weapon appeared. It was Dino’s mother, Yaeko! She entered the ring and gave Dino the Lip Lock! Takagi then hit Dino with a Lariat and the Sit Down Himawari Bomb but Dino kicked out. Then it was time for Dino’s secret weapon, Takagi’s wife Kayoko Takagi! She hit a Moonsault on Takagi. The end finally came when Dino delivered the Lip Lock and the Danshoku Driver, a Gotch-Style variation for extra insult. Dino is now in charge of DDT!

Dino celebrated winning what must now be the most important match of his career. Takagi tried to convince Dino to go and get married anyway. Marriage can be nice, just look at him and Kayoko. After he said this Kayoko gave him the cold shoulder and left the ring. Takagi then changed his mind and said it’s probably alright for Dino to stay single for a little while longer. He also thanked Yaeko for appearing. She received cheers from the audience as she left the ring. Moving on to other business, Takagi asked Dino if he realises how much power he now holds in DDT. Dino said he was prepared otherwise he would never have asked for it. Takagi accepted the answer and promoted Dino into the DDT Producer. Takagi then announced he was going to retire but quickly admitted he was lying. Amon Tsurumi came in to congratulate Dino for becoming the Producer. With Takagi, Amon and Dino all working together DDT will become a more interesting place. Takagi then fired Tsurumi! DDT only needs two people to captain the ship so Tsurumi’s position as General Manager is no longer needed. Dino agreed and said in English “You are fired!” Tsurumi tried to complain but was pulled out of the ring by a bunch of DDT wrestlers and carried away from ringside.

The combined powers of Dick Togo, Yasu Urano and Antonio Honda telling his bedtime story were not enough to take the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles from Shuten-dōji. Honda was put away with the combo of Yukio Sakaguchi’s Right Knee Of God, Masahiro Takanashi’s Takatonic and KUDO’s Diving Double Knee Drop. The champions declared they will drink until the morning to celebrate. Sakaguchi also sent a message to Togo. If Togo wants a match anytime, Sakaguchi will be there to kill him!

The 4 Way Tag Team match turned into a free for all. Kaz Hayashi & Keisuke Ishii hit stereo Planchas onto Yankee Two Kenju. Then Mike Bailey & MAO jumped off of the same top corner together to hit Moonsaults onto everyone outside the ring. Bailey & MAO then singled out Soma Takao but couldn’t catch the guy. Takao rolled away from Bailey’s Shooting Star Double Knee Drop then avoided MAO’s Cannonball 450. Kotaro Suzuki then grabbed MAO and did Takao’s Endless Waltz for a few nearfalls. Takao then took over the Endless Waltz for some more nearfalls until he finally pinned down MAO long enough to get a three count. Suzuki revealed that he got permission from Takao before the match to use the move so it is now officially part of his moveset. Takao hopes he and Suzuki will tag together more in the future. Bailey & MAO also expressed a desire to team up more often in DDT. On a sidenote, Takao is now 9-0 at “PETER PAN” events.

Shunma Katsumata and Jiro Kuroshiro provided a handsome looking change of pace with their singles match. Katsumata made his entrance on a stage gondola with the rest of NωA throwing autographed balls into the audience. Kuroshio then spent the entirety of his entrance frolicking through the crowd. His big move of the match was a Lionsault out of the ring onto Katsumata standing on the ramp. Katsumata got a nearfall with the Firebird Splash and also used his own version of the Ikemen Clutch for a nearfall. But Kuroshio got the victory by locking in the real Ikemen Clutch for the three count. Katsumata and Kuroshio embraced after the match. Katsumata said he regrets not being able to grasp his big opportunity today but he has no hard feelings over the result. Kuroshio said he felt lucky to get the match today and he thanked DDT for giving him their support.

In order to win the brand new KO-D 10-Man Tag Team Titles, a special battle plan was necessary to succeed. Super Sasadango Machine had such a plan ready for his team. First he held his PowerPoint presentation, “Reasons Why We Cannot Stop Wrestling”. Short answers, it’s because wrestlers feel a sense of accomplishment when they win. But wrestling is mostly an individual competition and when you are not the champion it is not as fun. When Tag Team Titles are introduced it increases the variety of ingredients to make tastier dishes. So he approves of a 10-Man Tag Title being created. for his battle plan, Kazuki Hirata is the target. Sasadango wants the audience to applaud Hirata so much that he will become deliriously happy. Then LiLiCo can sneak in and pin him with a School Boy. The plan didn’t work and Hirata kicked out of the School Boy. Later, Joey Ryan overpowered almost the entire opposition with his dick strength, flipping everybody away except for LiLiCo. She held on, forced Ryan to grab her crotch and used her power to flip him over. Hirata came back in to dance to his cover of “TOKYO GO!” until Ken Ohka hit him with the Fire Spear to win the match. So the first champions are Makoto Oishi, LiLiCo, Lady Beard, Super Sasadango Machine & Ken Ohka! Sasadango said backstage that the team are open to challenges from anybody as long as they come to DDT.

DDT’s new big lad Yuki Ino was the focus in the opening match for the main show. His power overwhelmed Yuki Ueno and he also went toe to toe with Naomi Yoshimura. He had no problem teaming with Kouki Iwasaki while Ueno & Yoshimura had a moment of miscommunication that almost cost them the match. Ueno’s Dropkick hit Yoshimura by mistake and Ino capitalised with a Spear to Ueno and a Back Drop to Yoshimura. Ino went for another Spear but Yoshimura sut him off with a Lariat and pinned the new rookie with the Shonenba. Ueno was impressed by Ino’s strength but Yoshimura wasn’t. He doesn’t see what the big deal with Ino is and why he was given the spotlight.

The Tokyo Joshi Pro GM Tetsuya Koda has the face the wrath of his entire roster because he had to enter their Battle Royal as the defending Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion. He tried to act tough but was easily beaten up by Cherry. When Nodoka-oneesan came out and Cherry fought her, Koda backed off to the corner and tried to stay out of the way. That backfired when Nonoko was thrown into the corner and she squashed him. Nodoka-oneesan then pinned Koda to become the champion. Her reign was ended by Mizuki with the Cutie Special. Mizuki held on to the belt until she was in the final two with Yuu. Fifteen years ago when Yuu was a kid, she tried to win the title as part of a fan contest and failed. But today, Yuu accomplished her goal and tapped out Mizuki to become the Iron Man Champion!

The All DNA team were victorious in the pre-show 8-Man Tag. The veterans Tomomitsu Matsunaga and Hoshitango came close to winning it for their side but their pins kept getting cut off. Rekka, Diego & Daiki Shimomura wiped out the opposition with Planchas then Mizuki Watase pinned Masato Kamino with the Back Drop.

When the doors opened at 2:00pm that afternoon, the first match of the day began. Gota Ihashi was put into a special 5-match Gauntlet series to be held all around the building. Plus he would be defending the King Of Dark Title so there he had many opportunities ahead to pass the cursed title to someone else. In fact he did it immediately outside Sumo Hall to his first opponent Dai Suzuki. Ihashi pinned Suzuki in 36 seconds and Suzuki rolled down the stairway with the title belt. Even though Ihashi is now free from dark match hell, he still had to complete his series so he move into a restroom for match number two against Gorgeous Matsuno. They fought over to a balcony where Matsuno used a tarp rope to attempt the Gorgeous Superstar Elbow. That obviously didn’t work and Ihashi leapt on top of him for the three count. Ihashi had to go down to the lobby and interrupt a DAMNATION autograph session for Match #3 against Mad Paulie. They moved over to the ring where Ihashi ran the length of ringside to do a Lariat. Paulie countered it with a Lou Thesz Press, got the three count and went back to the autograph table. An exhausted Ihashi looked around the halls for his first of two mystery opponents and found Rocky Kawamura. He put on a pair of boxing gloves and sparred with Kawamura until he got knocked out and pinned. Possibly dazed and confused or just by being a pervert, Ihashi found the women’s locker room and entered it. Saki Akai and Cherry ran out screaming but one person walked out of the shower and stayed. It was Lingerie Muto! He attacked Ihashi with shampoo, gave him a Dragon Screw and hit the Shining Wizard to end the match. Ihashi finishes the series with two wins and three losses.

During the ending credits, Akito sadly showed off his new bald head, Takagi was slapped down by Kayoko then their two daughters did standing Moonsaults onto him and Amon Tsurumi was seen pleading for his job back.

Suwama, Ultimo Dragon, Hideki Suzuki and Abdullah Kobayashi will all compete at the 22nd October show in Korakuen Hall. This is the same event where the Top 20 wrestlers in the Dramatic General Election will be booked.

One of the trends DDT is following as part of its 20th Anniversary is to return to venues that housed their events as they grew. One of the venues is Shibuya Club ATOM where DDT will have a special nostalgia show on 13th September. Three matches are announced so far. Takeshita, Akito & Poison Sawada JULIE take on NωA. Takagi, Dino, Muscle Sakai and Ohka will fight in a 4 Way Match. Lastly, Shuten-dōji face HERO!, MIKAMI & Tanomusaku Toba.

*V6 for Konosuke Takeshita. Naomi Yoshimura cashed in his Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Contract.

With less than a month away before “RYOGOKU PETER PAN 2017”, the journey to Sumo Hall went through a lot of bumps and turns in Korakuen Hall today. Konosuke Takeshita had not just one but two KO-D Openweight Title defences, clearing through the last of the Right To Challenge holders. First up was the scheduled main event against Keisuke Ishii. For weeks Ishii had been preparing the Final Cut learned from Kaz Hayashi as his secret weapon. Unfortunately for him, when it was finally time to use it Takeshita countered the move into an Emerald Frosion. Kind of ironic given Ishii’s adoration for classic All Japan that such a move would be used against him. With his battleplan in tatters, Ishii still had it in him to kick out of the German Suplex and some Big Boots. But the Surprise Rose finally put him down for the count.

After the match Takeshita wanted to create peace between his generation and Ishii’s. It isn’t about which generation is better, it’s about doing your best for DDT. He even invited Shigehiro Irie to come out as part of the peace offering. What he got instead was an ambush Lariat from Naomi Yoshimura! Today was the day Yoshimura would give Takeshita his greatest humiliation. He’s cashing in the last Right To Challenge contract for his title shot right now! What followed was Takeshita’s fight for survival as Yoshimura tried to beat him with big move after big move. A high angle choke Slam couldn’t beat Takeshita. A Power Bomb from the apron through a table couldn’t beat him. More Lariats couldn’t beat him. Takeshita finally turned the tables when he escaped the Throwaway Power Bomb and hit back with Lariats and Shoulder Blocks. He was now besting Yoshimura in these sumo-like collisions just like when they were kids. Yoshimura couldn’t handle it and his quest for revenge ended in failure after one Lariat too many. Takeshita won and now has a clear road ahead to Sumo Hall where Tetsuya Endo is waiting for him.

Endo entered the ring to show his disappointment over the result. He thought fighting Yoshimura would be the more interesting match. He reminded Takeshita that it was just over one year ago when Endo joined DAMNATION. A lot has changed since then but one thing remained the same. Endo wants the KO-D Title and he’ll have to beat Takeshita to get it! Takeshita didn’t hold back over what he wanted to say to his former friend. If Takeshita beats Endo in another title match and at Sumo Hall this time then Endo shouldn’t get another shot as long as Takeshita is champion. Endo agreed to the condition. Takeshita then reminded Endo about their 60 minute draw and said everyone at Sumo Hall better be prepared to see another one. He offered a handshake but Endo spat in his face instead. Takeshita remained calm but then grabbed Endo’s hair and pulled him in for a Short Range Lariat. Endo ducked, bounced off the ropes and hit a Handspring Leg Lariat to the champion. He followed it up with the Shooting Star Press. Endo grabbed the title belt and had the final word. Fair and square? Endo isn’t here to kid around. Wrestling isn’t a sport, it’s a fight. Takeshita told him that one year ago. Now Endo will return that message to him!

High risk, high reward was needed to determine a winner between Daisuke Sasaki and Joey Ryan so a Ladder Match was held with the DDT Extreme Title hanging above the ring. Ryan wasted no time when he dove out of the ring onto Sasaki during the champion’s entrance. Ryan later gave Sasaki a Brainbuster onto the ladder outside the ring. He looked all clear to climb the ladder inside the ring and grab the title but Sasaki caught his attention by pulling out a picture of Laura James and kissing it. Ryan got off the ladder but that allowed Sasaki to come back in and take control of the match. Sasaki brought out a trash can to beat Joey up with. He then wrapped a steel chain around his arm and jumped for a Diving Elbow but Joey rolled out of the way. Ryan took out a lollipop covered in thumbtacks and shoved it into Sasaki’s mouth! Sasaki hit back with a Chain Lariat then used the chain to wrap a Cross Facelock on Joey. Sasaki then brought out a barbed wire bat but Joey Super Kicked him with the lollipop still in his mouth! Then Ryan brought out the most dangerous weapon yet… a box of Lego! Ever step on one of those things without shoes on? Then you know how much they hurt. Ryan spilled the Lego onto the canvas and gave Sasaki the Balls Plex onto the Lego. He climbed the ladder but somehow Sasaki recovered, grabbed the second ladder and hit him with it to slow him down. Sasaki then position the second ladder between the first ladder and the top rope. Joey reached for the title belt but Sasaki threw him off with a Back Body Drop onto the second ladder! That left Sasaki free to pull down the belt and stay as the Extreme Champion.

Sasaki celebrated with the title belt and the picture of Laura James. He was approached by Amon Tsurumi and asked who he would like to defend the title against at Sumo Hall. Sasaki said he wants to go to America and defend against Candice LeRae. Tsurumi told him to forget about it because that request is impossible. Akito came out and asked for the title shot. Tsurumi liked the idea. After all, Akito eliminated Sasaki in the King Of DDT tournament and also has wins over him in 3 Way Matches. Sasaki said he would agree to it on one condition. Their match will also be “Cabellera Contra Cabellera”, a Hair Vs Hair Match! Akito accepted because he made up his mind long ago how much he is willing to risk to become a champion again. He’ll bet all of the hair on his head if he has to!

Irie appeared in the ring with his head heavily bandaged for his KO-D Tag Team Titles defence with Kazusada Higuchi. They were in for a fight against the DAMNATION pair of Shuji Ishikawa & Mad Paulie. The four brawled around the ring and it looked like the challengers were coming out on top. Ishikawa gave Irie the Fire Thunder while Paulie hit Higuchi with the Reverse Splash. However Higuchi recovered and sent Paulie into the corner. Irie ran in with a Cannonball Splash to Paulie which stunned him. Higuchi then put the big guy away with the Goten for the three count. The YaroZ were presented with their title belts by Ayumi Goto who herself was wearing the OPBF Oriental Pacific Women’s Super Bantamweight Title.

Afterwards Tsurumi invited HARASHIMA to the ring for an announcement concerning the Tag Titles. HARASHIMA will be challenging for the belts at Sumo Hall with someone who will certainly make DDT more exciting. Out came Naomichi Marufuji! HARASHIMA said he was exciting to put this together. Marufuji wanted everyone to know he isn’t doing this match as a guest wrestler. He is here because he wants to win the Tag Titles with somebody as skillful as HARASHIMA. Irie is pleased. He respects Marufuji and cannot wait to crush him!

Soma Takao must be feeling left out. He returns from illness to win a 4 Way Tag with HARASHIMA then HARASHIMA goes and makes friends with Marufuji for a big championship match. Now what is Takao going to do at Sumo Hall?

Shunma Katsumata Vs Tetsuya Endo didn’t last three minutes. Katsumata attacked Endo during his entrance and tried to get a quick win but it backfired when Endo pinned him with Tetsuya In The Sky. Backstage Katsumata excused the loss by saying he was feeling tired from wrestling in the NOAH Jr. Tag League.

Saki Akai wanted to see how much she has grown since her last meeting with Yoshiko. The result was inconclusive because Masahiro Takanashi pinned Makoto Oishi instead, leaving the two women to glare at each other after the match.

Japanese livelihoods were on the line in the opener. If T2Hide lost then both Hirata Collection A.T. and Gorgeous Matsuno would be deported from the country. But if they won then nobody could ever accuse Hira-Colle of being Kazuki Hirata in disguise ever again. A draw meant only Hira-Colle would be deported and Matsuno would be safe. To make things even more tense the match was held under (deep breath) Italian Falls Count Anywhere Match Scramble Bunkhouse Street Fight Tornado 6-Man Tag rules. Antonio Honda tried to calm the situation by telling the good old summer story “Pirates Of The Caribbean” but he replaced the name Caribbean with Parisian. Danshoku Dino won the match for his team by countering the Hirata Lock into a Cradle for the pin. Everyone celebrated by grabbing Hirata and carrying him out of the building. A message was then produced on the screen advertising Kazuki Hirata’s return to DDT on 30th August.

In the dark match, Daiki Shimomura tried to beat Kouki Iwasaki with Standing Moonsaults. Iwasaki fought back with Knee Lifts and won the match with a Vertical Drop Brainbuster. That is quickly becoming is go to move for beating opponents from the generation below him.

The brand new KO-D 10-Man Tag Team Titles were shown off for the first time. Each belt is a different colour. The belts are red, blue, pink, yellow and green. The first champions will be decided at Sumo Hall with Toru Owashi and Makoto Oishi captaining the two teams. They will announce their team choices at the first Beer Garden show on 30th July.

Katsumata was told he would be getting a special singles match at Sumo Hall. He will face Jiro “Ikemen” Kuroshio! The WRESTLE-1 pretty boy ran around Korakuen Hall greeting the audience while Tsurumi tried to get his attention to keep the show on schedule. The match means something to both wrestlers because they are both the same age and were also trainees together in an old promotion called SMASH.

Miyu Yamashita appeared to promote her match against Meiko Satomura in Tokyo Joshi Pro on 26th August. She admitted she had a bad performance at the press conference announcing the match. Satomura’s comments about Yamashita drove her to tears. Yamashita said when she woke up the next day she threw away all of her admiration for Satomura and replaced them with a desire to kill her in the ring!

newyear2016

Korakuen Hall spent its final hours of 2016 hosting the annual New Year’s Supershow co-hosted by Big Japan, DDT, K-DOJO, WRESTLE-1 and All Japan. The entire show was built around a Shuffle Tag Team Tournament, mixing most of the wrestlers together into odd pairings. Some teams got along with each other, some didn’t but hey it’s the holidays so let’s just have fun.

newyear2016-a

The opening match saw Yukio Sakaguchi & Daichi Hashimoto barely working together to beat the Brahman Brothers. Even the evil twins suggested that their opponents would have a better chance of winning if they got along. That came back to haunt them when a stop sign attack backfired and Brahman Shu hit Brahman Kei by accident. Hashimoto then drank the Brahman’s black ink and spat it in Kei’s face, leading to the Shining Wizard to finish him off.

newyear2016-b

Kengo Mashimo & Shigehiro Irie beat Naoya Nomura & Kouki Iwasaki. The latter worked well together but they weren’t able to outlast their more experienced opponents. Irie isolated Iwasaki while Mashimo threw Nomura out of the ring. Iwasaki said he felt tense having to wrestle on the final night of the year.

newyear2016-c

The 3rd match ended in a sleazy manner thanks to Joey Ryan and Laura James. Ryan kept trying to make Yuko Miyamoto touch his groin. Referee Frank Atsushi was slammed into the turnbuckles so James ran in to interfere. This somehow led to a situation where Great Kojika was knocked onto his back, James fell down on top of him sitting on his face, Atsushi stood over her holding his groin in pain and Ryan was knocked down head first onto Kojika’s crotch. If that wasn’t enough, a dazed Miyamoto was holding a Samurai! TV camera standing over them like he was filming a porn scene. Miyamoto eventually fell on top of them for the winning pin.

newyear2016-d

The next odd couple team to come along was Yuji Okabayashi & Jiro Kuroshio. Okabayashi had not time for Kuroshio’s antics and just wanted to wrestle. Kuroshio however wanted to know if Okabayashi had a fancy jacket to match his own. He found one and offered it to Okabayashi after they beat Ayato Yoshida & Takuya Nomura but it was refused.

newyear2016-e

Daisuke Sekimoto & HARASHIMA Vs Kazusada Higuchi & Yoshihisa Uto was the first match of the night to end in a Time Limit Draw. From there the match went into sudden death 1 count fall rules. HARASHIMA and Higuchi sprinted to pin each other for just one second but neither could. It took Uto to get the upset pin on Sekimoto to win the match and knock out one-half of last year’s tournament winners in the first round.

newyear2016-f

The pairing of Sanshiro Takagi & Abdullah Kobayashi were going by the team name GET MILD. They both came out dressed in Takayuki Ueki’s old wrestling costumes with a guiding stick poking out of Takagi’s crotch. Everybody including Manabu Soya pulled out a gun during the match and dared each other to a Western showdown. But it was all a trick, Soya & Ueki both rolled over GET MILD when they turned their backs and got the three count.

newyear2016-g

Daisuke Sasaki & Yuki Sato Vs Atsushi Aoki & Kazuki Hashimoto was the next match to go into overtime. It was part of Sasaki & Sato’s plan to waste time by bringing out selfie sticks and playing around with them. Aoki jammed the stick into Sasaki’s groin then tapped out Sato with the Cross Armbreaker.

newyear2016-h

The final first round match featured Danshoku Dino trying to woo his Kaz Hayashi into being his partner in more ways than one. Hayashi eventually reciprocated and revealed he was wearing Danshoku tights under his own. Unfortunately the power of love wasn’t enough to beat Hideyoshi Kamitani & Konosuke Takeshita.

newyear2016-i

Round 2 began with Sakaguchi & Hashimoto on better terms. They needed to be if they wanted to beat Mashimo & Irie. They hit a Penalty Kick/Shining Wizard combo to Irie then Sakaguchi hit the Right Knee Of God for the three count. A handshake at the end cemented that they were now on the right page together.

newyear2016-j

The other disgruntled pairing of the tournament also finally got along. Kuroshio convinced Okabayashi to wear his fancy jacket along with a sun visor with a wig attached to it. He got into the spirit of things and did some Ikemen poses while wrestling. Their match with Yankee Two Kenju went into overtime and sadly the Ikemen dream ended badly. Isami Kodaka caught Kuroshio in a European Clutch for the one count.

newyear2016-k

Ueki had a crazy plan to beat Higuchi & Uto. It involved drinking out of a 1.5 litre bottle of Coca-Cola then tightrope walking across the top rope. What he was supposed to achieve I don’t know but he wound up slipping and crotching himself on the rope. Higuchi then pinned him with the Doctor Bomb.

newyear2016-l

Kamitani & Takeshita were the last team to qualify for the semi-final with a win over Aoki & Hashimoto. Aoki took out Takeshita with a Topé but in the ring Hashimoto was pinned by Kamitani’s Back Drop.

newyear2016awards

With the 2nd Round completed it was time for the 2016 Occupation Of The Indies Awards. Best Newcomer was given to Takuya Nomura from Big Japan. Nomura said he debuted in April and will do his best to meet everyone’s expectations. Best Show went to Ganbare☆Wrestling for “BAD COMMUNICATION 2016” held on 2nd October. Ken Ohka was there to accept the award but had to leave early to participate at “SHOTA AID” in Shin-Kiba later that night. Ohka said he eventually wants to book a show at the Tokyo Dome. Best Unit went to DAMNATION from DDT. Shuji Ishikawa celebrated by singing “Only One Flower In The World” by SMAP. He then got angry at the rest of DAMNATION for not joining in. Best Bout went to the Scaffold G Shock Death Match between Ryuji Ito Vs Kokuro Hoshino from Big Japan’s “RYOGOKUTAN” show on 24th July. Ito wasn’t happy that he lost the match but would take the award as commiseration. Finally the MVP Award went to Shuji Ishikawa. At 41 years old he would like to fight new wrestlers and win new championships.

newyear2016-m

A lottery was held to determine the semi-final match ups. First up was Kamitani & Takeshita Vs Sakaguchi & Hashimoto. Once again Kamitani’s Back Drop was the difference maker. Sakaguchi admitted he misunderstood Hashimoto at first but got to know him throughout the night in their matches. He thinks they will meet again some day.

newyear2016-n

2016 ended and 2017 begun during the Higuchi & Uto Vs Yankee Two Kenju match. Kodaka & Miyamoto both celebrated by diving out of the ring onto their opponents at the stroke of midnight. Uto claimed the first victory of the new year but giving Kodaka a Double Arm Facebuster followed by a Lariat. Miyamoto coped with defeat by grabbing the Samurai! TV camera again.

newyear2016-o

So the final was Kamitani & Takeshita Vs Higuchi & Uto in a Big Japan/DDT Vs DNA/Big Japan final. With no time limit a winner would be determined under normal circumstances. Late in the match Higuchi hit Takeshita with a Lariat but only got a one count. Kamitani blocked Higuchi from doing the Doctor Bomb but Uto got rid of him. That allowed Higuchi to give Takeshita the Goten to pin last year’s co-champion and win the tournament! Higuchi & Uto praised their opponents but they were the strongest tonight. Takeshita said he is the one who will lead DDT and he then stood up to Higuchi. In reply Higuchi said he will not lose. Kamitani said he he will lead the entire pro wrestling landscape. Uto calmed everyone down and encouraged everyone to lead pro wrestling in Japan together. The four congratulated one another and posed for the show ending photographs.

*V1 for HARASHIMA.

nevermind-kod

Merry Christmas everyone! The final DDT show of the year had HARASHIMA’s first defence of his current KO-D Openweight Title reign. The challenger Shigehiro Irie had a lot of momentum on his side ever since he came back from America. He had pinned HARASHIMA in his first match back and was on the winning side for most of their tag matches in the lead up to today. Irie would even taunt HARASHIMA by giving him the thumbs down after all of their matches. HARASHIMA targeted Irie’s abdomen early on, hitting the John Woo Dropkick, some Knee Drops and Foot Stomps then a Cobra Twist. He did the deed by doing a Falcon Arrow but Irie kicked out and turned the tables with a Traffic Accident Tackle. HARASHIMA avoided both a Piledriver and the Flying Sausage but Irie finally hit a move with the Black Hole Slam. He tried to do a Piledriver on the apron but HARASHIMA slipped out and hit a Buzzsaw Kick. Irie quickly cut his momentum at ringside with a Power Bomb onto the apron instead. When HARASHIMA was rolled back into the ring he kicked out of the pin. He blocked Irie from doing the Flying Sausage and did a Superplex instead. A Swan Dive Foot Stomp got a two count. Irie applied the Tazzmission and tried to do a Suplex variation but HARASHIMA fought his way out of it. HARASHIMA hit three middle kicks but Irie hit back with the Beast Bomber and then gave a thumbs down. He went for the Vertical Drop Back Flip but HARASHIMA slipped out and hit a Jumping High Kick. The end came with both wrestlers trying to hit either the Somato or the Beast Bomber and HARASHIMA came out on top.

Irie finally gave HARASHIMA the thumbs up after the match. HARASHIMA said that everyone now sees how strong Irie has become and he would be happy to fight him again. HARASHIMA is now looking forward to defending the title against Mike Bailey on 3rd January. The rest of the roster then came out including Super Sasadango Machine wearing a Santa costume. Several of the wrestlers gave out their goals for 2017. Konosuke Takeshita wants to win back the KO-D Title. Yukio Sakaguchi will kill everyone who stands before his eyes. KUDO has spent this year recovering from his injuries and becoming a father so he wants to show everyone a strong KUDO next year. Yoshihiro Takayama has gotten so used to wrestling in DDT he now wants something to wrap around his waist to keep warm. Danshoku Dino will go on a diet. Keisuke Ishii wants to be more central to DDT. Saki Akai wants to spread the world of DDT. Kazusada Higuchi wants to win the New Year Tag Team Tournament. Shunma Katsumata wants to release a solo album, record more songs with NωA, win the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles and recruit a new member for NωA. Sasadango wants to return to the ring and live vigorously in good health. Sanshiro Takagi wants to send DDT across the whole world through DDT UNIVERSE. Finally HARASHIMA wants everyone to continue their support for DDT.

Shuten-dōji continues to have DAMNATION’s number. They beat DAMNATION to win the KO-D 6-Man Tag Titles earlier this month, beat them again earlier this week and then beat them once more in their first title defence. If that wasn’t enough, Masahiro Takanashi pinned Daisuke Sasaki in all three matches! Even Takanashi has trouble believing it. The third straight loss for DAMNATION has put them in crisis. They stormed out at the end of the show after the rest of the roster gave their resolutions. Is DAMNATION going to split up? Hell no! Sasaki says if they’re breaking up on Christmas Day, they would do it alone during a party for just themselves. Instead Sasaki will prepare for his next match on 3rd January. He will face the love of his life Candice LeRae! Next year DAMNATION will not flock together or flirt or get married… but Sasaki will get married to Candice! Sasaki was also kicking Shuji Ishikawa as he was shouting this out. Mad Paulie wasn’t really paying attention, instead wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

nevermind-dino

The first two matches for “JUDGEMENT 2017” in Saitama Super Arena next March were announced. A good card has to be prepared since the show celebrates DDT’s 20 year anniversary. First, Tokyo Joshi Pro gets a high profile match by mixing in with DDT’s women and two big joshi names. It will be Meiko Satomura, Saki Akai & Shoko Nakajima Vs Aja Kong, Cherry & Miyu Yamashita! The other match is Danshoku Dino versus whoever he wants. Dino requested Triple H but that was immediately turned down because it is deemed impossible to set up. It is up to Dino to choose his dream opponent under one condition, he cannot spend over 500,000 yen combined in payment, transportation and accommodation expenses.

Mad Paulie was truly in the Christmas spirit all day. He came down to the ring for his match against Konosuke Takeshita wearing a Santa hat and beard. He dominated the early portion of the bout, overwhelming Takeshita with brute force and throwing him around ringside. Takeshita spent the match defending himself against Paulie’s attacks. The opening he was looking for when he avoided the Reverse Splash. He then hit move after move from Big boots to Lariats to Brainbusters until Paulie couldn’t take anymore. Takeshita then got the win with the German Suplex. Takeshita was happy to spend the last DDT show of the year wrestling in a singles match and his victory was his Christmas gift to the fans.

nevermind-iwasaki

Kazusada Higuchi say he has learned a lot by teaming with Yoshihiro Takayama in the last few months. Takayama thinks Higuchi is just trying to flatter him but Higuchi is being honest. Takayama says he too is learning new things by teaming with Higuchi and Kouki Iwasaki. When asked about his desire to want something around his waist, Takayama simply answered he is the man who wants everything.

nevermind-ryan

Joey Ryan & Laura James have set their sights on becoming DDT’s power couple. Before their match with Makoto Oishi & Saki Akai began, James dared the referee to check her tights for any hidden items. When the ref became uncomfortable, Ryan then demanded him to do it. The couple showed off their deadly double team move during the match. Ryan falls down on his hands and knees next to the target, James pours lotion all over his back, she then charges towards him and slides over his back head first into the opponent. After winning the match, Ryan said their opponents were easy and he match difficult on purpose just to have a challenge. Their goal in DDT for 2017 is to win the KO-D Tag Team Titles. Also James wants to visit Harajuku and go see a cat cafe.

nevermind-fox

Everyone in the 3 Way Tag match agreed to Lucha tag rules for the bout. Antonio Honda got upset when he couldn’t join in on the wrestling between Soma Takao and Shunma Katsumata. So he began telling a story that happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Everybody expected him to talk about Star Wars but it instead turned out to be Gon, The Little Fox again.

nevermind-ikemen

Whenever Jiro Kuroshio shows up in DDT it is always a fun time for everyone, except Kazuki Hirata. He’s jealous of Kuroshio’s popularity and hates his entrance song. It’s incomprehensible and annoying unlike his own song. He was going to crush Kuroshio in this match! He also warned him about Dino’s behaviour around handsome wrestlers. Dino was in fact smitten by Kuroshio but that motivated him rather than cause a distraction. Sanshiro Takagi used the brand new DDT Storage Box as a weapon during the match but was cut off with a Dropkick. Kuroshio was ready to end the match until Dino stopped to confess his love to him. Keisuke Ishii took over while this was going on and won the match for his team anyway.

One more skirmish before the big BASARA show. This time Isami Kodaka is bringing in the big guns. However Kengo Mashimo doesn’t always get along with him. So the main event may look one sided on paper but when the match takes place one wrong move can thrash Kodaka’s plans to pieces.

DDT “NEW YEAR LOTTERY SPECIAL! ALL SEATS 2,000 YEN BOX OFFICE!! 2017”, 03/01/2017
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. KO-D Openweight Title: HARASHIMA (c) Vs Mike Bailey

Mike Bailey has built a lot of momentum in the last few months, winning the week long DNA Grand Prix tournament and now holding the KO-D Tag Team Titles with Konosuke Takeshita. His success has been rewarded even more with a KO-D Openweight Title shot at DDT’s first Korakuen Hall show in 2017.

Joey Ryan, Laura James and Candice LeRae will be on this show.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TOKYO JOSHI PRO ’17”, 04/01/2017
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Rika Tatsumi & Hyper Misao (w/ Minami Momochi) Vs Akane Miura & Maho Kurone
2. Reika Saiki Vs Itoh Maki
3. Nodoka-oneesan Vs Cherry
4. Konsho-gun Vs Married Woman Army: Azusa Takigawa & Nonoko Vs Ai Shimizu & Laura James
5. Mil Clown Vs Candice LeRae
6. Miyu Yamashita Vs Saki Akai
7. TOKYO Princess Of Princess Title: Yuu (c) Vs Shoko Nakajima

One of the big rivalries in Tokyo Joshi Pro’s history will come back for a special match. Miyu Yamashita has never been able to beat Saki Akai one on one. Akai has shown no interest in having any future plans with Tokyo Joshi so this may be Yamashita’s last chance for now to get that win.

Hyper Misao has enlisted Rika Tatsumi and Minami Momochi to help her latest attempt to protect Tokyo Joshi from evil. It wasn’t long ago when Akane Miura was practising snake magic although she has shown no evil behaviour since returning to normal. Maho Kurone however is pretty much a zombie now. She’s always been acting weird since her debut match but yeah, carrying a severed arm to the ring while her mouth is covered in blood isn’t exactly being subtle. Momochi will be finishing up her role as Tokyo Joshi’s ring announcer at this show so what a way to go, getting involved in this creepy situation.

DDT “ROAD TO SUPER ARENA IN OYODO ~DRAMATIC DREAM TENROKU~”, 09/01/2017
Osaka Oyodo Community Center

1. KO-D Tag Team Titles: Konosuke Takeshita & Mike Bailey (c) Vs Masakatsu Funaki & Yukio Sakaguchi

The pairing of Masakatsu Funaki & Yukio Sakaguchi at “OSAKA OCTOPUS 2016” worked so well that they will get a KO-D Tag Title shot next month.
