The big combat event of the year in Japan is this month’s RIZIN Vs K-1 kickboxing bout between Tenshin Nasukawa and Takeru Segawa. It is an event so big that it is being promoted simply as “THE MATCH”. Well, at least it’s supposed to be happening this month. The massive TV deal for the fight fell through following news articles alleging the president of RIZIN to having connections with organized crime. The planned broadcast is now going to be a PPV on ABEMA. That same day in Korakuen, DDT will be doing their own version of THE MATCH with Shinya Aoki and Hikaru Machida both involved. Toi Kojima is also taking part, continuing his fighting relationship with Aoki. Finally whenever DDT does boxing things they usually bring in Gota Ihashi to be the human punching bag. He’ll be fine.

The go home show for “WRESTLE SEKIGAHARA” sees Yumehito Imanari teaming with ROMANCE DAWN to take on Ken Ohka & CDK! So far Imanari has had Ohka’s number in the previous two warm up matches. However CDK’s antics have made them a difficult problem for ROMANCE DAWN to solve.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “SUMMER SUN PRINCESS ’22”, 09/07/2022
Tokyo Ota Ward Gymnasium

1. Princess Of Princess Title: Shoko Nakajima (c) Vs Winner Of 12/6 4 Way Match

Suzume has spent time in Gatoh Move these last few weeks getting to know Mei Suruga. She was the special opponent for Suruga’s 4th Anniversary match held two weeks ago. Then today she showed up at ChocoPro to promote “SUMMER SUN PRINCESS ’22”. Suzume and Suruga agreed to team up for the show and are currently working on what name to call themselves. Too many people involved with the promotions have already shot down AppleBees as an option so don’t even think about suggesting it.

Hikaru Shida is the latest guest star added to the show. So that’s her and Riho both coming in from AEW.

3. Special Single Match: Shuichiro Katsumura Vs Minoru Suzuki
4. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Yumehito Imanari (c) Vs Ken Ohka

Be careful what you wish for. Shuichiro Katsumura asked for a strong opponent to fight at Ota Ward Gymnasium and Minoru Suzuki answered the challenge! Suzuki didn’t waste any time in giving Katsumura a taste of what’s to come, sparking a short brawl between the two. Suzuki said this is what you get when you pick a fight with him for two reasons. One, because it sells the match and two, because Katsumura will need to use everything he knows to have a chance at beating him.

Ganbare Tamagawa (aka Batten x Burabura) will be on the show wrestling in Ganbare☆Pro for the first time in 8 and a half years. He was one of the first people to join Ganpro after it formed in 2013, first as an ally to Ken Ohka that lead to a heel turn out of bitterness for being so weak. He saw the error of his ways and turned back face but was done with the promotion after its first year. Since then he has stayed home in Fukuoka to focus on his family business while occasionally wrestling for Kyushu Pro Wrestling.

Even though Ryota Nakatsu defeated Masato Kamino, he called him a future Union MAX Champion after the main event. However when he tried asking him about how much he likes BASARA, Kamino instead said he is thinking about going to GLEAT more often. Then Isami Kodaka came out and said he is the only person left who can beat Nakatsu for the MAX Title. He challenged him to a title match on 21st June.

Takumi Tsukamoto revealed his motivation for defending the CCW Canadian Heavyweight Title. When he was in elementary school he once had a substitute teacher who was from Ottawa. Tsukamoto wants to hold onto the CCW Canadian Title until he reunites with this substitute teacher. His title defence today against Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi was also his most difficult challenge yet. Both of them fought wearing karate gear and Hiroshi was the most serious he’s been in years. Tsukamoto was able to counter a Triangle Choke into a Crab Hold to get the win.

The Dreams Surrounding The Championships, Unbreakable Rhio Coming To TJPW

May 19, 2022

So how about Konosuke Takeshita and Maki Itoh on AEW Dynamite last night? Not bad, eh? Takeshita faced Hangman Page in a non-title barnburner of a match while Itoh was the “Joker” entry in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament fighting against a previous ally Britt Baker. Both lost their matches unfortunately but their positions on the show was a great sign of the relationship between DDT/TJPW and AEW.

A press conference was held today featuring CDK, MAO and Asuka to promote both of their upcoming title matches. First up is the KO-D Tag Team Titles match involving all four wrestlers. Asuka thinks she and MAO have a deeper bond together than CDK does. She thinks their high flying skills will fuse together and she is looking forward to becoming the first female KO-D Tag Champion. MAO describes his team with Asuka is a challenging adventure and he wants to help her achieve her goal because as a former tag champion he has a special attachment for those belts.

Masahiro Takanashi appreciates the gesture because he once teamed with Emi Sakura for a KO-D Tag Title match. However he thinks the title are still better off belonging to CDK. Chris Brookes had just watched Takeshita on AEW so he is currently feeling emotional. This show might be the first DDT show AEW fans will watch so Brookes feels the pressure. However he is confident the other three wrestlers will show these fans how great DDT is.

The obscure CCW Canadian Heavyweight Title is being defended again. Takumi Tsukamoto was just about the better man against Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi in the Elimination tag match but now Hiroshi has a score to settle with him over it.

The press conference continued with MAO and Takanashi talking about the DDT Universal Title match. This will be Takanashi’s first singles championship match since the Union MAX Title defence in February 2020 when he got injured. Since coming back he wrestled the new generation of DDT wrestlers. He wants to win the Universal Title so he can defend it against those same wrestlers as well as the younger members of the BASARA roster. He also mentioned Kazusada Higuchi and Kota Umeda as potential opponents. There is also one more wrestler he would really want to defend the Universal Title against but he won’t say who it is.

MAO’s history of matches against Takanashi were mostly in NωA Vs Shuten-dōji 6-Man Tags. The fact that he and Takanashi are about to headline Korakuen Hall is like a tribute for wrestlers like KUDO and Makoto Oishi. MAO has his own dream opponent for a title defence. He definitely wants to defend the Universal Title against Mike Bailey!

3. Tsutomu Oosugi defeated Takato Nakano with the Tsuki no Ishi (10:51).
4. Isami Kodaka & Daiki Shimomura defeated SAGAT & Akiyori Takizawa when Kodaka pinned SAGAT with the Crunch Loop (18:46).
5. Elimination 6-Man Tag Match: Takumi Tsukamoto, Fuminori Abe & Masato Kamino defeated FUMA, Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi & Antonio Honda (23:38).
5a. Antonio Honda eliminated Fuminori Abe by Ring Out (14:47).
5b. Fuminori Abe was eliminated by Ring Out (14:59).

The show is either happening right now or already happened while I write this but I want to get this news post out of the way so I can enjoy the rest of my Sunday.

Shinjuku FACE

1. Saki Akai & Soma Takao Vs Maya Yukihi & Kazuki Hirata
2. Yuki “Sexy” Iino & Danshoku “Dandy” Dieno Vs Toru Owashi & Akito

7. Road To Audience 2022! Special 6-Man Tag Match: Chris Brookes, Masahiro Takanashi & Antonio Honda Vs MAO, Asuka & Shunma Katsumata

A world tour is on the minds of CDK and Antonio Honda wants to join in. MAO needs the help from both of his tag team partners Shunma Katsumata & Asuka to make sure it will not be done at his expense.

While Tetsuya Endo waits for his next challenger to appear, BURNING will take on itself for a friendly tag match.

BASARA “BASARA 190 ~TAKAGARI 8~”, 14/05/2022
Takashimadaira Ward Community Center

1. Lil’ Kraken Vs Banana Senga
2. Daichi Kazato Vs Yasu Urano

4. Isami Kodaka & Daiki Shimomura Vs SAGAT & Akiyori Takizawa
5. Elimination 6-Man Tag Match: Takumi Tsukamoto, Fuminori Abe & Masato Kamino Vs FUMA, Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi & Antonio Honda

I think Masato Kamino is the one to keep an eye on after his win against Isami Kodaka last month. Out of that line up in the main event he is the one I see getting the next Union MAX Title shot.

DDT “AUDIENCE 2022”, 22/05/2022
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Toru Owashi & Naomi Yoshimura Vs Antonio Honda & Yuki Ishida
2. Yuki “Sexy” Iino & Danshoku “Dandy” Dieno Vs HARASHIMA & Akito
3. Tetsuya Endo, Jun Akiyama, Yusuke Okada & Yuya Koroku Vs Yuji Hino, Yukio Naya, Ilusion & El Unicorn

6. KO-D Tag Team Titles: Chris Brookes & Masahiro Takanashi (c) Vs MAO & Asuka
7. KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles Tournament – Final: Daisuke Sasaki, MJ Paul & KANON Vs Kazusada Higuchi, Yukio Sakaguchi & Hideki Okatani

The KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles will either be won by Eruption or go back to DAMNATION T.A. The arrival of KANON to the unit along with Minoru Fujita still hanging around to interfere gives the previous champions the advantage. But Eruption aren’t in the mood to take on cheaters and Hideki Okatani in particular is looking to fight KANON.

The DDTeeeen!! pair are continuing to get big opportunities. Now Ilusion and El Unicorn are getting thrown in there with BURNING. They have the big boys Yuji Hino & Yukio Naya on their team to make it a more fair fight. Keep in mind there is a 38 year age difference between Jun Akiyama and El Unicorn.

Kumamoto Castle Natural Hot Spring

1. Falls Count Anywhere Tag Match: Shinya Aoki & Yukio Naya Vs Shunma Katsumata & Toui Kojima

For the first time DDT will hold a Falls Count Anywhere match inside the Kumamoto Hot Spring with an audience watching on. Thirty people will be allowed to see the match but they will be advised to be socially distant and be barefoot because they will get wet.

DDT “WHAT ARE YOU DOING 2022”, 01/06/2022
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title – Battle Royal: Shinichiro Kawamatsu (c) (w/ Nobutatsu Suzuki) Vs X
2. DDT Extreme Title: Yuki “Sexy” Iino (c) Vs AKIRA
3. DDT Universal Title: MAO (c) Vs Masahiro Takanashi

After a failed attempt by Pokotan to win the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title, DDT have booked Shinichiro Kawamatsu to defend the belt in a Battle Royal. However he has hired former MMA fighter Nobutatsu Suzuki as his bodyguard and he will be there to protect his client from all threats.

“CYBERFIGHT FESTIVAL 2022”, 12/06/2022
Saitama Super Arena

1. NOAH Vs DDT Battle ~ Special Single Match: Kenoh Vs Daisuke Sasaki
2. GHC Heavyweight Title: Go Shiozaki (c) Vs Satoshi Kojima

The full card will be revealed on 10th May. The latest drama surrounding NOAH is NOSAWA Rongai leaving the company after his contract was not renewed. NOAH’s business under his watch as booker has apparently not made the higher ups (as in those above Sanshiro Takagi) in CyberFight/CyberAgent happy. Kendo Kashin is said to be the new booker and I worry about that. He has such a bizarre sense of humour when he does his own angles and is left to his own devices. I have no idea what to expect when he has an entire company worth of storylines to deal with. There are also rumours of frustration among certain parts of the roster over who gets pushed strong (along with the better pay that comes with it) and why. I do not think this effects the “CYBERFIGHT FESTIVAL 2022” lineup in any way that matters. As a long term story though there can be more and even bigger fallouts to come if NOAH’s position doesn’t improve.

4. Takumi Tsukamoto, Fuminori Abe & Yasu Urano (w/ Gouma) Vs FUMA, Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi & Daichi Kazato ended in a Double Disqualification (3:07).
4a. Rematch: FUMA, Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi & Daichi Kazato (w/ Gouma) defeated Takumi Tsukamoto, Fuminori Abe & Yasu Urano when Hiroshi pinned Tsukamoto with the Tani Otoshi (8:14).
5. Union MAX Title – GRACE GROUP Presents: Ryota Nakatsu (c) defeated Daiki Shimomura with the V Slider (18:51).
*V5 for Ryota Nakatsu.

It’s now five Union Max Title defences for Ryota Nakatsu, tying the amount from his first reign. He is proud of how passionate Daiki Shimomura fought but told him he should not be satisfied over it. Nakatsu is old and Shimomura are young but they both have a lot of energy so they will continue doing their best for BASARA! No new challenger came out but instead the president of GRACE GROUP asked him for three favours. First, he wants to host a Grace Project show on 5th June built around BASARA taking on a group of wrestlers representing the Grace Family. Nakatsu agreed to it.

The president brought out Kamui and Kenya Maeda. They said the entire Grace Family has already been chosen. They are Kamui, Katsumi Oribe, Kota Umeda, Tomoya Hirata, Daisuke Masaoka and Takashi Sasaki! Nakatsu accepted the challenge and talked with the president over who should be on BASARA’s team. They decided on Nakatsu, Shimomura, Takato Nakano, Masato Kamino, Isami Kodaka and maybe they will offer the last spot to SAGAT. Maeda then introduced himself as Tatsuhito Takaiwa’s number one disciple and kept repeating himself when Kodaka acted like he wasn’t paying attention. They agreed to a singles match against each other at a Grace Project show taking place in two days time. That was the president’s second request. The third and final request was allowing them to sell tickets to the show at the concession area after the show.

Before the 6-Man Tag Match began, Gouma warned the Asian Kung Fu Revolution that someone on their team was going to betray them. Daichi Kazato immediately said it wasn’t him over and over. However Gouma kept getting in the way of his own teammates until he got into a fight with Takumi Tsukamoto, causing a full scale brawl to start and the match to end in a Double DQ. FUMA then revealed Gouma was the traitor all along and he is the newest member of Asian Kung Fu Revolution! The match restarted and this time Gouma kept messing up and hitting his new teammates. They turned on him causing the other team to come to his aid. However this was another trick and Gouma hugged Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi as another sign of betrayal. Gouma then gave Tsukamoto the Jumping Neckbreaker Drop and Hiroshi pinned him with the Tani Otoshi. The two teams continued brawling after the match and all fought their way backstage.
