DDT Around The World – August 2023

September 1, 2023

As always with this article I start off thinking it is going to be a lighter month than the last until it grows and grows. There are always extra bookings on the horizons whenever the boys and girls from DDT and Tokyo Joshi Pro go abroad. August was dominated by two stories in my mind. Konosuke Takeshita wrestling The Golden Lovers in Wembley and Maki Itoh being all over GCW even more so than usual. Other things of note include TJPW announcing its return to America while dipping its toe into China, MAO becoming fast friends with El Desperado and Miyu Yamashita finding herself in ChocoPro territory by virtue of being EVE’s champion. Maybe next month’s article will be the one that finally slows down a little bit.

Results

AEW “DYNAMITE 200”, 02/08/2023
Yuengling Center, Tampa, Florida, USA

1. Chris Jericho & Konosuke Takeshita defeated Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia when Jericho pinned Garcia after a Bat Attack from Don Callis (12:21).

As I feared, Takeshita’s storyline with Don Callis was pretty much hijacked by Chris Jericho to set up his own angle with Takeshita’s manager. Takeshita & Jericho teamed up under Callis’s recommendation against two people close to Jericho, Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia. Callis knocked out Garcia with a baseball bat behind the ref’s back and Jericho made the choice to pin him for the victory.

WRESTLING REVOLVER “HEAT EM UP”, 03/08/2023
Calumet Center, Dayton, Ohio, USA

1. Lucha Street Fight: Konosuke Takeshita defeated Gringo Loco with the Diving Senton (14:39).

Takeshita showed up in Wrestling REVOLVER as a short notice replacement for Jon Moxley. His appearance made up for Takeshita’s own cancelled booking with the promotion back in June. Here Takeshita faced Gringo Loco in a Lucha Street Fight. By coincidence one of Loco’s big moves is the Himawari Bomb that Sanshiro Takagi also uses. Takeshita kicked out of the move and then countered a top rope version into a Poison Rana. Loco kicked out of the Powerdrive Knee so Takeshita then took a page out of Moxley’s book by giving Loco the Paradigm Shift. From there Takeshita won with the Diving Senton.

DREAMWAVE “SUMMER SPECTACULAR 2023”, 04/08/2023
Knights of Columbus, LaSalle, Illinois, USA

1. Dreamwave Women’s Title Qualifying Scramble: Zayda Steele defeated Brittnie Brooks, Maki Itoh, B3CCA, Kaia McKenna and Shazza McKenzie when Steele pinned McKenzie after the It’s Brittnie Bitch from Brooks (8:08).

Itoh entered Dreamwave’s 6-Woman Scramble in the hopes of qualifying for their new Women’s Championship. It was first fall to a finish but the ring soon emptied when some of the women, Itoh included got thrown out. She didn’t factor into the finish but would soon find out she had another chance.

DREAMWAVE “THOSE SUMMER NIGHTS”, 05/08/2023
Knights of Columbus, LaSalle, Illinois, USA

1. Dreamwave Women’s Title Qualifying Scramble: Brittnie Brooks defeated Maki Itoh, B3CCA, Kaia McKenna, Maggie Lee and Shelly Benson when Brookes pinned Lee with the It’s Brittnie Bitch (8:08).

The second chance didn’t work out any better for her. Another 6-Woman Scramble was held the next night with some of the same women involved. Itoh tried to submit two opponents at once by giving them a Double Half Crab but it left her vulnerable to a Super Kick. She went to recover outside the ring and couldn’t climb back in time to break the pin.

GCW “NO SIGNAL IN THE HILLS”, 11/08/2023
Ukrainian Cultural Center, Los Angeles, California, USA

1. 4 Way Match: Steph De Lander defeated Allie Katch, Maki Itoh and Masha Slamovich when De Lander pinned Itoh with the Fireman’s Carry Facebuster (11:53).

Okay maybe multi-person free for alls are not Itoh’s forte. This one was a bit crazy though. Masha Slamovich had Allie Katch beaten when all of a sudden Blake Christian jumped into the ring and attacked her. Itoh took exception and threw punches at Christian, opening herself up to Steph De Lander giving her an F5-like move to win.

PWG “MYSTERY VORTEX”, 13/08/2023
Globe Theatre, Los Angeles, California, USA

1. Konosuke Takeshita defeated Rey Horus (?:??).
2. Evil Uno, Maki Itoh & Aramis defeated Masha Slamovich, Peter Avalon & Látigo (?:??).

Here’s something I never thought I’d write. Maki Itoh did a balcony dive at a PWG show! It’s been rare to see PWG holding shows nowadays but last month they held one of their signature events “MYSTERY VORTEX” where nothing is advertised before hand and fans only know what the matches are when they happen. Itoh was involved in a bizarre mixture of wrestlers in a 6-Person Tag Match. She teamed with Evil Uno & Aramis to beat Masha Slamovich, Peter Avalon & Látigo in a match mixing together AEW, lucha libre and women’s wrestling talent.

Takeshita was also on the show too, beating Rey Horus. I’d call him a PWG regular at this point if they ran shows more often.

KOPW “THE NEW ERA OF CHINESE PRO WRESTLING III”, 19/08/2023
Tianyue Sports City, Nanhai Foshan, Guangdong, China

1. Mizuki defeated Nao Kakuta with the Cutie Special (?:??).

TJPW made their first steps into China when Mizuki and Nao Kakuta were invited to take part in King Of Pro Wrestling. They faced each other in a non-title match and won over the crowd with their back and forth action.

NJPW “LEC PRESENTS ALL STAR JR FESTIVAL USA 2023”, 19/08/2023
2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

1. El Desperado & MAO defeated Nick Wayne & Jordan Oliver when Desperado pinned Oliver with the Pinche Loco (19:14).

The All Star Jr. Festival proved to be such a good idea in Japan that they brought the show over to America. MAO was invited along and got to team with El Desperado. The two of them bonded by playing Dragon Quest V on the flight to America so their team name was DQV. They fought a tag team MAO lost to earlier this year, The East West Express. Both Nick Wayne & Jordan Oliver performed Stereo Springboard Cutters to their opponents but both only got a two count. MAO got rid of Wayne by spiking him onto the canvas with a Spinning Headscissors and Desperado pinned Oliver with the Pinche Loco.

GCW “HOMECOMING – PART 1”, 19/08/2023
The Showboat, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA

1. Nick Gage & Maki Itoh defeated Matt Cardona & Steph De Lander when Gage & Itoh pinned Cardona & De Lander each with the Kokeshi (11:57).

Months of fights between Maki Death Kill and Deathmatch Royalty led to a climactic battle between them finally happening. Itoh & Nick Gage were finally going to get their hands on Matt Cardona & De Lander with nothing in their way to stop them. Cardona & De Lander made a big entrance out of it, arriving at the venue in the Ecto-1 and wearing Ghostbusters outfits. For you see tonight they were the Deathmatch Busters! The joke blew up in their faces because Maki Death Kill sliced the two of them apart with pizza cutters! Cardona & De Lander tried to Pedigree Gage & Itoh onto thumbtacks but they were both Back Body Dropped onto the pile instead. Gage & Itoh then delivered stereo Kokeshi Headbutts to win the match and possibly put an end to the feud.

IMPACT/NJPW “MULTIVERSE UNITED”, 20/08/2023
2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

1. Scramble Match: Chris Sabin defeated Kevin Knight, Frankie Kazarian, BUSHI, YOH, Rich Swann, MAO and El Desperado when Sabin pinned YOH with the Cradle Shock (8:06).

MAO was involved even further with the international Jr. Heavyweight Division action the next night. Impact and New Japan held a co-promoted event and MAO was thrown into an 8-Man Scramble match to open the show. He tried joining forces with Desperado again but the numbers game still proved to be too much for the two of them. Instead Chris Sabin ended up being the last man standing. Well, at least until BUSHI blinded him with Poison Mist after the match.

GCW “HOMECOMING – PART 2”, 20/08/2023
The Showboat, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA

1. Maki Itoh defeated B3CCA with the Itoh Deluxe (9:21).

In the first of two singles matches they have coming up together, Itoh beat B3CCA in GCW. Will the result be the same when they have a rematch at MLW next month?

ROW/GCW “GCW VS RENEGADES OF WRESTLING”, 25/08/2023
Roundhouse, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

1. Maki Itoh defeated Charli Evans with the Itoh Deluxe (18:03).

Itoh’s next focus in GCW was their tour of Australia with the Renegades Of Wrestling promotion. On Night 1 Itoh defeated Charli Evans and revealed a new word she learned that Aussies like to call other people. I’m not going to type it out here. It’s difficult enough trying to keep this blog from getting caught in web filters.

ROW/GCW “GCW VS RENEGADES OF WRESTLING”, 26/08/2023
Melbourne Pavilion, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

1. ROW Women’s Title: Aysha (c) defeated Maki Itoh with a Double Arm DDT (12:58).
*V3 for Aysha.

The second night featured Itoh challenged Aysha for the ROW Women’s Title. Itoh had the champion beat when she made her tap out to the Itoh Deluxe but Aysha’s cronies at ringside kept distracting the referee so it wouldn’t be seen. Itoh let go of the hold to chase them off but turned around into a Double Arm DDT, stealing the win for Aysha.

GATOH MOVE “CHOCOPRO”, 26/08/2023
The Yard Theatre, London, England

1. Emi Sakura & Masahiro Takanashi defeated Emersyn Jayne & Debbie Keitel (12:53).

Just including this result because Masahiro Takanashi is a DDT guy as well as a ChocoPro regular. I have more to talk about the second show of the double header.

EVE/GATOH MOVE “CHOCOPRO X EVE SUPER SHOW”, 26/08/2023
The Dome, Tufnell Park, London, England

1. EVE Title: Miyu Yamashita (c) defeated Emersyn Jayne with the Crash Rabbit Heat (19:39).
*V8 for Miyu Yamashita.
2. Mei Suruga & Masahiro Takanashi defeated Kanji & Kid Lykos when Suruga pinned Kanji with the Maple Model (11:25).

Being the EVE Champion got Miyu Yamashita to appear on a ChocoPro branded show for the first time. She opened up the show with a title defence against Emersyn Jayne. That match was supposed to happen in July but travel problems for the challenger prevented that from happening. It finally went ahead here and the match turned out to be a violent one. Yamashita was slammed onto the front row of chairs outside the ring and Jayne ended up getting busted open. Jayne did kick out of the Skull Kick, being one of the few people to do so. But Yamashita followed it up with the Crash Rabbit Heat to remain the champion.

One of ChocoPro’s victories on the show against EVE happened when Masahiro Takanashi & Mei Suruga defeated Kid Lykos & Kanji. It was one of the rare times men got to wrestle on an EVE show too.

The show also left with a question of what could have been because Marika Kobashi was planned to compete as an EVE representative. She is currently staying in Scotland but her flight to London was cancelled and she was unable to make it to the show. Part of her apology included regret over not being able to see Yamashita again so I wonder if she was meant to wrestle her instead of Jayne?

I was at this show by the way. Although I admit leaving during the main event in order to catch my train back to the hotel so I missed Emi Sakura’s surprise induction into EVE’s Hall Of Fame at the end.

ROW/GCW “GCW VS RENEGADES OF WRESTLING”, 27/08/2023
Eatons Hill Hotel, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

1. Maki Itoh defeated Allie Katch with the I.S.D. (11:03).

Itoh bounced back from her failure to win a title by taking on GCW’s own Allie Katch on the final night of the Australian tour. It was another clean victory for Itoh. She seems to have Katch’s number every time they face each other.

AEW “ALL IN LONDON”, 27/08/2023
Wembley Stadium, London, England

1. Jay White, Juice Robinson & Konosuke Takeshita (w/ Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn) defeated The Golden Elite Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi & Adam Page when Takeshita pinned Omega with a School Boy (20:28).

I was at this show too! Getting to see Takeshita live in front of 80,000+ people in Wembley was great especially since my first time seeing him was in front of 330 people somewhere in Saitama back in 2016. That I got to see him mix it up with The Golden Lovers was a bonus. Even the result went Takeshita’s way. He countered Kota Ibushi’s Kamigoye with a sick looking Jumping Knee Strike of his own. Then when Kenny Omega was dealing with Bullet Club Gold, Takeshita rolled him up with a School Boy to steal the win.

MDRN NMD/GATOH MOVE “CHOCO NIGHT GRAPS!”, 29/08/2023
The Bread Shed, Grosvenor St., Manchester, England

1. Masahiro Takanashi defeated Kid Lykos with the Takatonic (?:??).

ChocoPro’s trip to England ended with a collaboration show alongside Modern Nomad Pro Wrestling. Takanashi took on Lykos again, this time in a singles match and at a venue where there was no wrestling ring. It was a mat wrestling show similar to ChocoPro’s own events in Ichigaya.

Eruption Wins AJPW Trios Titles, Scramble Bunkhouse Explosion Death Match, Endo’s Return From Injury, Hiromu Coming To DDT

August 30, 2023

Over the weekend Eruption went to an All Japan show at Nagoya to take part in a double championship match. They put the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles on the line against ATM, Takao Omori & Black Menso-re, the defending AJPW TV 6-Man Tag Team Titles. Eruption won the match to successfully defend their own belts while also becoming the new AJPW 6-Man Tag Champions! Yukio Sakaguchi said the goal was to just defend their own championship. Winning the AJPW titles is just a bonus to him. The result made Saki Akai the first woman in history to win an AJPW championship!

ATM & Black Menso-re challenged Eruption to rematch for both sets of titles on 3rd September. They also said DASH Chisako is going to be the third member of their team. Akai & Hideki Okatani approved of the idea because they both want to wrestle Chisako again. Eruption accepted the challenge and also plan to have their next defence after that take place back in DDT on 9th September.

7. Special Single Match: Yuji Hino Vs KANON

This will be the last warm up match for Brookes and Shigehiro Irie before “DDT BIG BANG 2023”.

Naruki Doi is still the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion as far as I know so his upcoming singles match with Hirata is still on track to be a double title bout. That may change when they cross paths here.

Eruption will be missing the show because they are now booked for an All Japan event in Nagaoka on the same day. Eruption will be defending the AJPW TV 6-Man Tag Titles along with the KO-D 6-Man Tag Titles on that show.

9. First Time In History! Time Difference Scramble Bunkhouse Current Blast 6-Man Tag Death Match: Atsushi Onita, Yoshi Tatsu & Toy Kojima Vs Sanshiro Takagi, Jun Akiyama & Yusuke Okada

The rules have been decided for the main event. It will be a Scramble Bunkhouse Explosion Death Match with wrestlers joining in one after the other. The match will begin with Atsushi Onita against Jun Akiyama with all of the explosive weaponry available for them to use on each other. Akiyama suggested the two of them start and Onita agreed when the weapons were allowed. Then after three minutes the other four wrestlers will enter the match to gradually turn it into a 6-Man Tag Team brawl.

DDT are expecting MAO to be recovered in time to take part in this show.

Some of the lower matches have been changed around to deal with the additional injuries that have taken place over the last week.

4. Current Blast Death Match: Atsushi Onita & Yoshi Tatsu Vs Jun Akiyama & Kotaro Suzuki
5. Special 6-Man Tag Match: Chris Brookes, MAO & Antonio Honda Vs Minoru Suzuki, Yukio Sakaguchi & Saki Akai

Next up on Saki Akai’s retirement bucket list is her getting to team up with Minoru Suzuki!

Nagoya is an area that means a lot to Irie. It is also the hometown of Shinya Ishida. So DDT are putting the two of them with Kazusada Higuchi in one of the main matches for DDT’s next visit there.

DDT “ULTIMATE PARTY 2023”, 12/11/2023
Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan

1. Saki Akai Retirement Match: Saki Akai Vs X

Hiromu Takahashi will be on the show. He wants to choose his opponent so does he have somebody already in mind? Really interesting to see how open New Japan has become towards sending their wrestlers to other companies in Japan lately. It’s one thing to work with all of the different international promotions around the world to spread their brand. Doing it within the Japanese scene as well is something they haven’t been doing for years until just recently.

For the first time in three years BASARA held their all you can drink “~UTAGE~” show again in Shin-Kiba 1st RING. In the main event FUMA defeated Takumi Tsukamoto to become a three time Union MAX Champion! By beating Tsukamoto today and also Ryota Nakatsu recently, FUMA now thinks he has gotten revenge for all of his biggest failings in the last few years in his bid to become champion again. There are more wrestlers out there he wants to get revenge on. The first one on his mind is a certain wrestler from Osaka who he has never beaten. His name is Eisa8 and FUMA fought him often under a mask in Okinawa Pro. He is going to see what his own schedule is like next month before he challenges Eisa8 to a title match. BASARA will be in Osaka on 23rd September and FUMA also wants the promotion to run a show in Gunma on 14th October.

Gouma Ryu bribed the referee with money to give him the advantage against Nakatsu in the Jacket Match. It caused the ref to count slowly after Nakatsu knocked out Ryu. The ref was given more money by Ryu on the canvas to stop the 10 count entirely. The ref also fast counted Nakatsu and ignored Ryu using his law book as a weapon. When Nakatsu took the book from him and threatened to hit him back, the ref was bribed into disqualifying Nakatsu entirely.

A big upset in early in the show saw Lil’ Kraken & Leo Isaka win as a tag team for the first time against Sento Minzoku. Isaka ended up dodging Isami Kodaka’s finisher and used an Inside Cradle to pin him for the three count. With this result Kraken suggested they challenge Daiki Shimomura & Minoru Fujita for the IRON FIST Tag Titles on 18th September. Fujita later accepted the challenge. He & Shimomura just beat Speed Of Sounds today so what chance do Kraken & Isaka have?

Daichi Kazato announced that Asian Kung Fu Revolution will be producing the 17th September show.

DDT “FIGHTING BEER GARDEN – DAY 2” Results

August 29, 2023

DDT “FIGHTING BEER GARDEN – DAY 2”, 29/08/2023
Tokyo Ueno Park Outdoor Stage
418 Fans – No Vacancy

1. 3 Way Tag Match ~ Pheromones Escape Rules: Toy Kojima & Kazuma Sumi defeated Yuki “Sexy” Iino & Danshoku “Dandy” Dieno and Yusuke Okada & Yuya Koroku when Sumi escaped Pheromones (10:00).
2. Different Mixed Martial Arts Special Tag Match: Shinya Aoki & Yuki Ishida defeated Thanomsak Toba & Rukiya when Aoki pinned Rukiya with the European Clutch (5:39).
3. Table Crash Match: Yuko Miyamoto defeated Hideki Okatani with the Fire Thunder from the stage through the Table (12:09).
4. Rock ‘n’ Roll 3 Way Death Match: Yuni defeated Kazuki Hirata and A.YAZAWA when Yuni pinned YAZAWA with a School Boy (9:52).
5. Daisuke Sasaki, KANON & MJ Paul defeated Yuji Hino, Makoto Oishi & Ilusion when KANON pinned Ilusion with the Sleepy Hollow (9:18).
6. Drunk Tag Match: Yukio Sakaguchi & Saki Akai Vs HARASHIMA & Akito ended in a No Contest (13:22).
7. Beer Garden Specialty Customer Lottery 6-Man Tag Match ~ Costume Change Match: Chris Brookes, Jun Akiyama & Yukio Naya defeated Kazusada Higuchi, Yuki Ueno & Takeshi Masada when Brookes pinned Masada with the Praying Mantis Bomb (16:03).

The teams in the main event were determined by fans picking names out of a box by random fans in the audience. The result ended up being Chris Brookes, Jun Akiyama & Yukio Naya against Kazusada Higuchi, Yuki Ueno & Takeshi Masada. However as an added bonus it was the match also had all the wrestlers swapping ring gear and pretending to be each other. Brookes was Masada, Akiyama was Naya (wig included), Naya was Higuchi, Higuchi was Akiyama, Ueno was Brookes and Masada was Ueno. Brookes ended up going back to his own moveset to pin Masada with the Praying Mantis Bomb.

The rules of the Drunk Tag Match was after every two minutes every wrestler had to press down a tooth on a crocodile toy game. If the crocodile bites the wrestler’s finger then that person’s team had to drink a cup of tequila. The rule also applied to kickouts and rope breaks. HARASHIMA, Akito and Yukio Sakaguchi had already spent all day drinking beer and continued to do so while they wrestled. They also purposely lost the crocodile game so they could drink even more. Soon other people not involved in the match like Hideki Okatani and Gota Ihashi joined in the fun. Saki Akai got so drunk she fell asleep on the ring apron. Ihashi placed a towel over her body so she wouldn’t catch a cold. That accidentally woke Akai up and she freaked out seeing Ihashi stand over her. Everyone including Kazuki Hirata then calmed her down by singing until she went back to sleep. Yukinori Matsui then decided to call the match off so nobody would wake her up again.

As I expected, Antonio Honda was replaced by A.YAZAWA in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Death Match. It was also a 3 Way instead of a 4 Way because of MAO’s absence. YAZAWA, Hirata and Yuni all expected their match to be interrupted by rock music but they also got songs like Tokyo Ondo, underground idol tracks and Swan Lake. Both Yuni and Hirata piled on top of YAZAWA for the pinfall but since Yuni was the one directly pressing down on YAZAWA he was declared the winner.

Match #3 was unexpectedly announced as a Table Crash Match right before it started. Yuko Miyamoto was able to beat Okatani by putting him through a table placed over a kiddie pool at ringside with the Fire Thunder Driver. Miyamoto complained about getting his gear wet but was still happy with the result. He told Okatani they will have their decisive battle at Ota Ward Gymnasium on 9th September when Triple Six faces Eruption. He also wants that match to be for whatever trios championship Eruption are holding on the day.

The opening match was a Pheromones Escape Match. Different missions were given out by Pheromones for the other teams to accomplish while fighting each other. If a wrestler failed a mission then a piece of the ring gear would be stripped off. Also if a wrestler got their head shoved into Yuki Iino’s backside they would be instantly eliminated from the match. Whichever team had the most points (or any survivors) at the end of ten minutes will be the winner. The teams had to sell beer to fans, find hidden O-back lingerie hidden around the venue and more. By the end of the time limit Kazuma Sumi was the sole survivor, winning the match for his team. His partner Toy Kojima shoved his face into Iino’s backside after the match anyway.

0. Dark Match – No Tag Rules: Yuki “Sexy” Iino & Akito defeated Yuni & Ilusion when Iino pinned Ilusion with the Ketsugoye (8:38).
1. Minoru Fujita, KANON & MJ Paul defeated Yuji Hino, Makoto Oishi & Rukiya when KANON pinned Rukiya with the Sleepy Hollow (8:49).
2. Saki Akai Photobook “GRACIA” Infomercial Match: Saki Akai Photobook “GRACIA” defeated Kazuki Hirata and Antonio Honda when “GRACIA” submitted Hirata and Honda with a Double Arm Lock (8:22).
3. Saki Akai Debut 10th Anniversary Match Vol. 3 ~ Special Single Match: Saki Akai defeated Danshoku Dieno by TKO with a Face Kick (6:51).
4. Kazusada Higuchi, Hideki Okatani & Takeshi Masada defeated Yukio Naya, Yusuke Okada & Yuya Koroku when Okatani pinned Koroku with the Double Arm Suplex (9:57).
5. HARASHIMA Debut 22nd Anniversary Match: HARASHIMA, Yasu Urano & Ken Ohka defeated Daisuke Sekimoto, Sanshiro Takagi & Yukio Sakaguchi when HARASHIMA pinned Sakaguchi with the Somato (14:15).
6. Special Single Match: Daisuke Sasaki defeated Toy Kojima with the Crossface Lock (10:34).
7. Special Tag Match: Chris Brookes & Yuki Ueno defeated Shigehiro Irie & Jun Akiyama when Brookes pinned Irie with the Praying Mantis Bomb (19:45).

Chris Brookes returned his first big blow back at Shigehiro Irie by pinning him in today’s main event at Korakuen Hall. The early part of the tag match had Irie & Jun Akiyama in control but the tides turned with Yuki Ueno helping Brookes to stop Irie’s momentum. Ueno wore down Irie with a top rope Frankensteiner followed by the BME. After that Brookes took over by hitting the Diving Double Knee Drop and Michinoku Driver II for some nearfalls. Irie was spent after that though and was pinned with the Praying Mantis Bomb. Brookes said Irie had won all of their previous warm up matches and today is the first time Brookes beat him. Irie may want to take over the world but Brookes does not care about that. He cares about DDT because he is their champion. They have time left to get ready for the KO-D Openweight Title match on 9th September. Backstage Irie took the loss to think he is not the strong challenger he thought he was. But he won’t stop believing in himself until he makes it back to the top of DDT!

The god damn injury bug that’s been haunting DDT all year struck again over the weekend, causing a few changes on this show. The big one was MAO being pulled from the show to get checked for a suspected cheekbone fracture. He ended up being diagnosed with traumatic TMJ arthritis, putting him out of action until the 9th September show at Ota Ward Gymnasium. His match with Daisuke Sasaki meant for today was changed into Sasaki against Toy Kojima, bringing back their feud from earlier this summer. Sasaki quickly tried to end the match with an immediate Pedigree and Crossface Lock but Kojima reached the ropes. Sasaki then attacked the injured Shunma Katsumata at ringside. Kojima fought back by diving onto Sasaki and other DAMNATION T.A members outside the ring. He tried using one of Katsumata’s signature moves the Totonou Splash but Sasaki blocked it with his knees. Sasaki hit a Spear and used MAO’s Michinoku Driver II but Kojima kicked out. Sasaki then applied the Crossface Lock, making Kojima give up.

Sasaki attacked Kojima with a chair afterwards, telling him he isn’t the person he wants to join his side. Yuki Ueno ran into the ring to rescue Kojima and Sasaki stopped. He told Ueno to give him an answer for his offer. Does he want to stay in The 37KAMIINA and stay where he is for the rest of his life? Or will he join Sasaki and Konosuke Takeshita so they can all change the world together? Ueno wouldn’t except a handshake so Sasaki whispered something into his ear. Whatever it was, it made Ueno pause and think before helping Kojima to the back.

HARASHIMA put together his own 6-Man Tag Match to celebrate his 22nd anniversary in pro wrestling. He teamed up with his close friends Yasu Urano & Ken Ohka but that wasn’t all. KUDO appeared with them for their entrance down to the ring and stood in their corner. Their opponents weren’t going to take it easy on them though. Yukio Sakaguchi relished in the chance to bully Ohka again, taping his arms to his side to mock him. Daisuke Sekimoto chopped and suplexed HARASHIMA around the ring. Ohka got his revenge by giving Sekimoto & Sakaguchi separate Spears Of Fire. That put Sakaguchi in position to take the Somato from HARASHIMA for the finish. HARASHIMA said 22 years seems like a long time but it went by in the blink of an eye. He got to produce his own match with wrestlers he wanted to fight but there are still many more he wants to wrestle again. He looked at KUDO as he said that. Backstage Urano also brought up Toru Owashi as someone who’s been important for HARASHIMA’s career. Sanshiro Takagi thanked Sekimoto and Urano for gathering with DDT again to celebrate HARASHIMA. Sekimoto said he could really feel HARASHIMA’s love in the match so he had to show love for HARASHIMA in his own way.

The scheduled 8-Man Tag Match was changed around into a 6-Man Tag thanks to Kojima and Ilusion both being moved around the card due to other people’s absences. Hideki Okatani was supposed to be against Kazusada Higuchi & Takeshi Masada but now found himself teaming with them. Yukio Naya & Yusuke Okada held their own against them and it was all left there for Yuya Koroku to finish the job. He put Okatani in the Triangle Lancer but Higuchi broke it up by putting him in the Brain Claw. Masada then hit Koroku with the Triangle Kick and Okatani pinned him with the Northern Lights Suplex. Okatani described the match as a warm up for later tonight. Eruption are heading over to an All Japan show in Nagoya where they are defending the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles against the AJPW TV 6-Man Tag Team Champions in a double championship match! Eruption ended up winning that match so they are all now double crown trios champions!

No injury was going to cancel Saki Akai’s match with Danshoku Dieno given how much it meant for Akai. Dieno recently had surgery on a broken nose and wore a face guard in order to let the match take place. His injury made Akai cautious to attack, which he took advantage of. He gave Akai the Danshoku Driver but she kicked out and applied a Triangle Choke. Dieno reached the ropes but then took a Superplex. Akai again hesitated to use her kicking moveset that targets the face. Dieno told her it’s okay. He currently cannot breath through his nose but he accepted this match and this only shows the weak side of Saki Akai. A pro wrestler is not supposed to show weakness so he demanded she attack him! Akai did so and kicked him in the face over and over until Yukinori Matsui stopped the match, rewarding her the victory by TKO.

After the match Dieno admitted he never told the hospital he was doing this match. However he accepts being completely defeated and he lost today because Akai has become a stronger wrestler. He encouraged her to keep getting stronger until the moment she retires. Nobody should have the same opinion about what pro wrestling is because it’s fun to throw different opinions into the ring together. Akai promised to take what he just said and keep them in her thoughts during her remaining months as a pro wrestler. She will become stronger and get more people to know about DDT! As mentioned above, Akai later went to AJPW with Eruption in the evening to win the AJPW 6-Man Tag Titles. By doing so she has become the first female champion ever in All Japan’s history!

Akai sort of got another win in the match prior. Her new photobook “GRACIA” defeated Kazuki Hirata and Antonio Honda in a 3 Way Match created to promote said book. Honda briefly fainted when Hirata showed him some of the pages inside but the book istelf started doing wrestling moves, trapping both opponents in a Double Arm Lock to make them submit. Both Hirata and Honda wondered if the book was printed in Mexico because that would explain why something called “GRACIA” is good at submission holds.

Just like with Irie in the main event, Yuji Hino & Makoto Oishi suffered a setback in momentum in the opening match. KANON & Minoru Fujita along with MJ Paul beat them in a 6-Man Tag Match. Oishi tried shrugging off the result because KANON only pinned Rukiya. Hino agreed and said he doesn’t even know who Rukiya is. Backstage Ω and DAMNATION T.A signed the contract for the KO-D Tag Team Titles match on 9th September. But first KANON has to face Hino in a singles match on the 3rd.

Kazuma Sumi had to miss the show because of a fever. Ilusion took his place in the dark match. Akito wanting to team with Yuki Iino in a secret plan to infiltrate Pheromones naturally had Iino feeling suspicious. The two came to blows until Akito stripped out of his gear to reveal the costume he wore as Akito “Cochin” Nishigaki underneath! They got along from that point on until Akito tried to cost his tag partner the match. Yuni & Ilusion tried to take advantage but Iino found a way to win the match in one piece. He used the Ketsugoye, hitting Akito in the face with his groin before stuffing Ilusion’s face into his backside for the victory.

It was announced during the show that Hiromu Takahashi from New Japan will be at “ULTIMATE PARTY 2023” on 12th November! There was also a match announcement for the 18th September show in Nagoya. On that show Brookes, MAO & Honda will take on Sakaguchi, Akai & Minoru Suzuki!

2. 3 Way Match: Mahiro Kiryu defeated Haruna Neko and Shino Suzuki when Kiryu pinned Suzuki with the Spinebuster (5:37).
3. Hikari Noa & Toga defeated Hyper Misao & Haru Kazashiro when Noa pinned Kazashiro with the Running Neckbreaker Drop (10:40).
4. Special Single Match: Rika Tatsumi defeated Demonio Dos with the Missile Hip (10:06).
5. Chu! Summer Party Death Match 2023: Mizuki & HIMAWARI defeated Shoko Nakajima & Pom Harajuku when Mizuki pinned Harajuku with the Diving Foot Stomp into the Pool (14:36).
6. Yuki Aino, Raku & Moka Miyamoto defeated Miu Watanabe, Suzume & Wakana Uehara when Aino pinned Uehara with the Venus DDT (15:40).

The summer theme led to a crazier show than usual. Everybody in the main event were too busy warming up to see what happened in the Summer Party Death Match so they were confused to find themselves stepping into a soaking wet wrestling ring. After the match Yuki Aino said today feels like the last day of summer and thanked the fans to coming to see them. Meanwhile Moka Miyamoto was still trying to figure out what happened before their match. Backstage Miu Watanabe told everyone she had a nice summer but she feels like she is now tired of it. She warned the audience not to get heatstroke while Suzume & Wakana Uehara were busy wishing everyone a happy summer. Raku said now that summer is over she wants to go eat ice cream.

The messy ring was caused by the Summer Party Death Match where all items related to summer were allowed. Everyone was dressed for the summer and armed with buckets of water, water balloons, firework sparklers and more. Shoko Nakajima also gathered together a pile of kaiju toys in the ring for everyone to get slammed into (she explained she used to watch kaiju movies in the cinema during her summer vacations so that meant the toys counted as legal weapons). Rika Tatsumi and Demonio Dos ended up getting involved in the match when everyone brawled out of the ring. That led to Mizuki diving onto everyone from the top of a truck. Back in the ring HIMAWARI smashed a watermelon over Nakajima’s head. A kiddie pool filled with water was then put in the ring. Mizuki knocked Pom Harajuku into the pool, placed a piece of watermelon over her head, climbed the top turnbuckle and hit the Diving Foot Stomp into the pool for the win. Mizuki & HIMAWARI ate the remaining pieces of watermelon to celebrate. HIMAWARI said she was happy to be part of a fun match like this because she’s only been here for over half a year. She wants to do it more. Nakajima complained that you shouldn’t hit people over the head with watermelons.

Tatsumi was given an opponent as crazy as her so she could really unleash herself without putting the rest of Tokyo Joshi Pro in danger. She’s fought Demonio Uno before so this time she took on Demonio Dos. The two quickly took their match out of the ring where Tatsumi found the company bus parked next to them. Tatsumi took the chance to get into the driver’s seat and try to run Dos over! However she does not understand how to drive stick and couldn’t get the bus started. Dos dragged Tatsumi out of the bus and back to the ring where they fought even more. A ref bump led to one of the turnbuckle pads being removed. Tatsumi hit Dos with the pad and then followed up with the Missile Hip, pinning the monster for the three count once the referee recoved. After the match Tatsumi offered a handshake, believing this whole ordeal was just her way of trying to make a new friend. Dos kicked her instead and the two started fighting again. Which explains why they reappeared during the Summer Party Death Match. Backstage Tatsumi claimed this was also an International Princess Title match and should count as her 5th successful defence. TJPW have not confirmed that.

Hyper Misao tried to attack her opponents with fireworks because she wanted it to be her last memory of this summer. Hikari Noa stopped her by swinging a chair at the fireworks. Noa then tried to use the fireworks herself but the referee prevented her from doing so.
