KO-D 6-Man Tag Titles Vacated, Hirata Might Be Booker Of The Year, Full Cards For Grand Princess & Judgement 2025

February 25, 2025

Today DDT announced the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles have been vacated by DAMNATION T.A. The status of the championship was up in the air since Sunday after KANON was kicked out of the unit. He was one third of the champions along with Daisuke Sasaki & MJ Paul but the situation between them was “deemed difficult” according to DDT for future title defences to be scheduled. A match to determine the 57th champions will be announced as soon as it is decided on. I swear DAMNATION T.A have the weirdest luck with tag team championships. They either lose them immediately or hold onto them long enough for something within them to fall apart.

*Special Referee: Amon Tsurumi.
9. DDT Universal Title: Yuki Ueno (c) Vs Minoru Suzuki
10. KO-D Openweight Title: Chris Brookes (c) Vs Masahiro Takanashi

Meanwhile Chris Brookes decided to defend his KO-D Openweight Title against his longtime CDK teammate Masahiro Takanashi. But this is not being done out of love or friendship. The two want to give DDT fans a fight to remember to close out one of the most important shows of the year for the company.

Danshoku Dieno and Super Sasadango Machine are threatening to give everyone the worst match ever for their DDT Extreme Title bout. Hisaya Imabayashi will be turning back into Amon Tsurumi for one night only to officiate the match.

He doesn’t understand why he’s been expelled from DAMNATION T.A but KANON wants to get revenge on Daisuke Sasaki. DDT quickly put together the singles match between them for this show.

It’s planned to be a five hour show but the card still has to be crammed together a little bit. That means Kazusada Higuchi and Shunma Katsumata will make their respective returns from injury in the same match. It’s also a good excuse to have a Harimao Vs NωA Jr. trios match.

4. Daisuke Sasaki, KANON, MJ Paul & Ilusion defeated To-y, Jun Akiyama, Tomomitsu Matsunaga & Daichi Sato when KANON pinned Matsunaga with the Sleepy Hollow (9:32).
5. Special Tag Match: Chris Brookes & Baliyan Akki defeated Shinya Aoki & Keigo Nakamura when Brookes pinned Nakamura with the Praying Mantis Bomb (9:46).
6. “Brave Bang Bravern!” Collaboration 6-Man Tag Match ~ Bravern Debut Match: Bravern, Yuki Ueno & MAO defeated Yukio Naya, Akito & Soma Takao when Bravern pinned Takao with the Brave Cross Stinger (17:29).
7. D GENERATIONS CUP 2025 – Final: Yuya Koroku defeated Takeshi Masada with the Modified Triangle Lancer (16:40).

DDT really wanted to shine a spotlight on their new generation of wrestlers so they placed this year’s D GENERATIONS CUP final in the main event of today’s Korakuen Hall show. With a future KO-D Openweight Title shot on the line, Takeshi Masada and Yuya Koroku faced off in a rematch of the 2023 DGC final. At first Koroku went for his usual game plan to target the arm until he started pulling out moves from his former BURNING allies. He used the Intercept DDT from Yusuke Okada and the Spinning Torture Rack Bomb from Tetsuya Endo. He also had Masada’s finisher scouted and countered the move into the Chickenwing Arm Lock before switching over to the Triangle Lancer. Masada had no answer to that and gave up, making Koroku the third tournament winner!

Koroku thanked the fans for supporting him and talked about what happened five months ago when he was humiliated in this ring. He thought about quitting but the fan support gave him the strength to get to this point. This is just the beginning because on 6th April he will get his KO-D title match at Korakuen Hall. Backstage he told reporters that he wouldn’t have come this far without BURNING because they taught him so much about everything. He also thinks it is an honour he will get to fight for the KO-D Title exactly four years into his career. He made himself a promise at the start of the year and this April he will fulfill it by winning that title!

There was something familiar surrounding the Brave Bang Bravern collaboration match that I just can’t put my finger on. The giant mecha Bravern was shrunk down to human size for its debut pro wrestling match. It teamed with Yuki Ueno (back from his health scare) & MAO to take on the team of Yukio Naya, Akito & Soma Takao who were representing the show’s bad guys. One of the voice actors for the show (and also the current Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion) Tetsu Inada watched from the commentary booth but became so invested in the match he moved down to ringside. There he saw Bravern, Ueno & MAO give Akito a Triple Razor’s Edge from the corner. Bravern then used the Somato Brave Cross Stinger on Akito to get the pinfall. He thanked Ueno & MAO for helping him save DDT with their fiery spirit and indomitable courage. If DDT is ever in trouble again they can call for his help. In return Ueno & MAO suggested they can show up in Season 2 of the anime if it ever gets made.

In a last minute change to the show Masahiro Takanashi became ill with fever symptoms and was replaced by Baliyan Akki. He and Chris Brookes still meshed together well as a tag team. Perhaps a little too well because when Brookes tried to slap Keigo Nakamura and Nakamura ducked, Akki saw it coming and blocked it before instinctively slapping Brookes back. That minor setback gave Nakamura & Shinya Aoki a chance to get the win but it didn’t work out for them. In the end Brookes got his second wind, dodged Nakamura’s Diving Headbutt and eventually pinned him with the Praying Mantis Bomb.

After the match Hisaya Imabayashi approached Brookes in the ring. He had given him a month to decide who he wants defend the KO-D Title against at DDT’s 28th Anniversary show on 20th March. Brookes knew who to pick and decided to ring the person on his phone right there in the ring. The call was answered and it turned out to be Masahiro Takanashi on the other end! Brookes asked his CDK partner to challenge him for a title match. Takanashi said he knew Brookes would pick him and asked if it was out of kindness for all that he has done for him? Brookes told him it is an important show so he wants to fight a strong Takanashi, not a kind one. He will kill him in the ring if he has to! Takanashi promised he will give it his all and take the belt from Brookes so he will be the one defending it against the DGC winner in April!

A ragtag bunch of babyfaces were not able to beat DAMNATION T.A in an 8-Man Tag Match. To-y tried to take charge by telling Jun Akiyama to grab Ilusion and hold him still. To-y then missed his attack and hit Akiyama instead so Akiyama angrily yelled at him while DAMNATION T.A were beating up To-y. Akiyama had a much better time doing teamwork with Daichi Sato. The youngster even went toe to toe with MJ Paul until the match broke down into a brawl. To-y ended up hitting Akiyama by accident again and nobody was there to save Tomomitsu Matsunaga from being pinned by KANON. Akiyama got a shot in on To-y for revenge after the match.

The day wasn’t over for DAMNATION T.A yet. All of a sudden Hideki Okatani walked down to the ring armed with a bamboo stick. He climbed inside and attacked KANON with it while the rest of DAMNATION T.A… joined in on the attack! After the beatdown Daisuke Sasaki introduced Okatani as DAMANTION T.A’s newest crazy member and then announced KANON has been kicked out of the group! According to Sasaki, KANON has become too smug and no good for the unit so it is time to say goodbye. Okatani then called KANON a brown-nosing wrestler for always pandering to the crowd before hitting him again with the bamboo stick until it broke.

Okatani explained even more backstage, revealing that KANON has actually been cut off from the unit a long time ago. Sasaki called KANON the biggest failure he has ever created but now he has created his new masterpiece in Okatani. He then claimed that Okatani will have his return match in April. He tore his ACL last April so a year will have passed when he wrestles again. KANON was in tears backstage because he doesn’t know what he did to deserve this. He demanded a singles match with Sasaki to settle things and DDT ended up booking it for 20th March. Lost in the middle of this is what will happen with the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles? DAMNATION T.A are the current title holders and KANON was part of the champion team.

Hisaya Imabayashi’s worst nightmare came back to life for one night only. There was supposed to be a full blown Pheromones reunion but it got hampered when Yuki Iino got injured. Super Sasadango Machine filled in for him and Yumehito Imanari appeared as his normal self. But Danshoku Dieno & Koju Takeda both showed up acting like their Pheromones personas. The match eventually became too lewd for any audience and Imabayashi had to call it off by using a towel to cover anything that should not be seen on a live broadcast. He paid the price and Pheromones rendered him unconscious with their salacious attacks.

While this was all happening, Sasadango made his way up to the commentary table and grabbed everyone’s attention with his latest PowerPoint presentation. It was titled “Characteristics And Practical Methods Of People Who Are Good At Schedule Management.” He explained how posters can be used to promote his matches and pointed out he does not have a match yet for the 28th Anniversary show despite being on the poster. So he is challenging Dieno to a DDT Extreme Title match for 20th March! It will be a special day for DDT and Dieno is a special wrestler for the company. Also the Extreme Title is the only proper DDT championship Sasadango has ever held. He even added an extra condition to make the match even more special. It will be the last time Sasadango will challenge for that title! Dieno refused the challenge but only so he can nominate Sasadango as his next challenger. He also told Imabayashi he wants his alter ego Amon Tsurumi to be part of the match as the special referee! Together these three old men promise to put on the worst match ever!

Kazuki Hirata had a lot of down time while he was recovering from his knee injury so he occupied himself by watching a lot of wrestling. By doing so he made the eye opening discovery that nobody else dances during their matches. So for his return match he wanted to take things seriously and wrestle properly. Too bad his opponent Antonio Honda wanted to see him dance instead and kept tempting him to put the Hirata GO glasses back on. Hirata couldn’t take it but just when he was about to put on the glasses, Honda attacked him. Hirata fought back though and pinned Honda with the Miracle One Shot Cradle before getting to dance as his true self again.

Hirata then had an announcement to make about his 15th Anniversary Match on 12th March. He and Keisuke Ishii are going to team up with someone special to take on YO-HEY, Kenshin Chikano & Soma Takao. The third man on his team is Hiromu Takahashi! He said he is putting everything he has into the production of this show so everyone will have a happy time together.

The show began with a song performance by NωA Jr. (no doubt trying to impress Kaisei Takechi over at the commentary booth. When they were done Yuni & Kazuma Sumi then faced Toru Owashi & Yuki Ishida in the opening bout. Owashi did a little bit of lucha before switching over to sumo which fitted in more with Ishida’s Dosukoi spirit. Sumi tried to win with a Lionsault and the School Boy but Ishida threw him over with a Scooping German Suplex and pinned him with the Flame Palm.

4. Ueno Nordic Presents ~Yuki Ueno Löyly~: Takeshi Masada defeated Kuishinbo Kamen and Kikutaro when Masada pinned both Kamen and Kikutaro (11:23).
5. BZW Tag Team Title – NELJAS Presents ~MAO Löyly~: MAO & Yoshihiko (c) defeated Chris Brookes & Masahiro Takanashi when Yoshihiko pinned Takanashi after the Double Rainmaker (18:59).
*V2 for MAO & Yoshihiko.
6. SeaSaunaShack Presents ~To-y Löyly~: Shuji Kondo defeated To-y with the King Kong Lariat (19:20).

All four members of The 37KAMIINA gathered everyone over to Shinjuku FACE for a wrestling show that is supposed to spread the feeling you get being in a sauna. Only two members of the group were actually able to wrestle because of injuries and health scares for the other two. To-y was one of them, fighting against another sauna lover Shuji Kondo in the main event. To-y did his best and even landed the Kojima Wonderland but some well timed Lariats from Kondo put the match in his favour. Kondo received a free bathing ticket from the match sponser for winning the match. Kondo said he heard rumours about how good To-y is and he was impressed with him today. If this show happens again next year he would like to have a rematch. To-y said he had a dream where he fought Kondo and lost. He also lost the real match today. That means the next time they fight will be the third match and it will be third time’s the charm for To-y to beat Kondo!

The BZW Tag Team Titles were defended in Japan for a second time when MAO & Yoshihiko put them on the line against a determined CDK. The tag champs were put in mortal danger when Chris Brookes choked both of them with the rubber strap and hung both of them from the ropes over the ring apron. He also did the stretch band attack with Yoshihiko still attached, launching the doll into MAO. But Yoshihiko landed on Brookes with a dive and gave Masahiro Takanashi a Canadian Destroyer. Takanashi kicked out of the Somato so MAO & Yoshihiko combined their powers to give him the Double Rainmaker for the victory. MAO said the team is ready to defend the belts in BZW again and will be going to Belgium next motnh. He heard BZW is running a show in Las Vegas during WrestleMania week so he & Yoshihiko can be there too. Takanashi was disappointed he didn’t win the title because he wants to go to France. That made Brookes wonder wouldn’t it be better if they won the titles in France instead of Japan?

It is in the bucket list of every Osaka wrestler to take part in a Kuishinbo Kamen Vs Kikutaro match with Yukinori Matsui as the referee. Sadly for Takeshi Masada none of them wanted him to be part of it. Whenever he tried to take part in their spots they either ignored him or shoved him aside. Masada had to fight them properly but ended up getting a DDT from Matsui. That caused Kamen and Kikutaro to figure out it is much more fun to fight Matsui so they attacked him. Matsui fought them off, knocked them down with a Double Lariat and gave Masada a Facebuster on top of them. Masada was left on top of the pile so Matsui counted the pin, making Matsui the winner.

Plans for an ALL OUT reunion fell apart for one reason or another but a Konosuke Takeshita did show up as advertised. Shin Konosuke Takeshita made a grand entrance along with Shin Don Callis, ready to take part in a 3 Way Match against Shin Shunma Katsumata (who looks an awful lot like Yuni) and Akito (who actually really was just Akito). Callis disappeared midway through the match which is exactly when Shin Yuki Iino did a run in spot. He stayed around to help Shin Takeshita pull off her big moves like the German Suplex and the Raging Fire.

A bunch of people booked for Match #2 pulled out of the show for various reasons. Danshoku Dieno was busy minding his pet dog Haku and didn’t want to leave him, Fuminori Abe needed to exorcise his demons at a waterfall and Yukio Naya was recently banned from saunas for having bad manners. So Kazuma Sumi was put in the ring with the sauna fairy Naya Tonttu to fight Sauna Oyakata (Dieno) & Sauna Kobun (Abe). However Tonttu felt the room was too cold so he abandoned Sumi early in the match. He eventually returned when Sumi called for his help it was not enough for them to win the match.

Shinya Aoki put Keigo Nakamura to the test with a challenging singles match. Nakamura got some moments by moving Aoki from a European Clutch into a Gedo Clutch but once he tried to target Aoki’s foot, Aoki reversed course and worked over Nakamura’s leg. Nakamura then put him in the Full Nelson and repositioned it into a Camel Clutch to make Nakamura submit.

At the end of the show MAO encouraged To-y by telling him they will continue to defend the KO-D Tag Team Titles as many times as they can. He called for any team to come out and challenge them. Suddenly Fuminori Abe & Takuya Nomura walked down to the ring. MAO thought they were hear to challenge him & Yoshihiko for the BZW Tag Titles. Nope, Astronauts are answering the call for a KO-D Tag Titles match! Abe also revealed that there is only one Toy in wrestling who they answer to and it is Yuki Ishikawa (because his real first name is Toyohiko). MAO wants to be in top condition for the match so everyone agreed it will take place at DDT’s 28th Anniversary show on 20th March.

Also at the end of the show Shunma Katsumata had an announcement to make. MAO kept guessing it was Katsumata’s retirement. Thankfully it is not. Katsumata will be returning to the ring on 20th March! He’s been out of action since November with a torn ACL in his left knee.

At the start of the show Yuki Ueno greeted the audience and told them he is currently feeling fine. He is unable to wrestle this weekend after being examined for hematuria symptoms.

DDT Around The World – January 2025

February 1, 2025

A new year means new adventures and a fresh sense of excitement to go exploring again. Konosuke Takeshita now has work with New Japan to deal with alongside his AEW duties. It’s opened up a whole new group of opponents to fight in America as well as Japan, especially since he has a championship in each company he wants to defend often. Yuka Sakazaki had a very big month by taking part in a special retirement match and also getting a big chance to do some things on AEW TV. But now that has come and gone I worry that she’s going to vanish from the shows again. Yuki Kamifuku is continuing her series of matches with Alexis Lee across Southeast Asia. Maki Itoh went on tour across the world with GCW but sadly lost her championship along the way.

A lot more destinations are coming up in the Springtime. Chile gets to experience Tokyo Joshi Pro on their own soil, Takeshita gets a very big tag match in Australia, Miyu Yamashita gets to wrestle in Germany for the first time and all roads will be leading us towards the bright lights of Las Vegas. I know I got the tickets I want for Wrestlemania Week.

As far as I know it was just the Queen Of Asia Title that was on the line for Kamifuku’s latest appearance at Singapore Pro Wrestling. Her rivalry with Alexis Lee may have turned friendly but Lee still wants to win that title back. Kamifuku was able to beat her again for another title defence. It also won’t be the last time this year they fight each other in SPW. More on that later.

1. Sumie Sakai Retirement Match – Tornado Tag Match: Hiromu Takahashi, Mayu Iwatani & Yuka Sakazaki defeated Sumi Sakai, EVIL & SHO when Takahashi pinned Sakai with the TIME BOMB (14:42).
2. NEVER Openweight Title: KONOSUKE TAKESHITA (c) defeated KUSHIDA with the Raging Fire (15:08).
*V2 for KONOSUKE TAKESHITA.

With a new path forged in New Japan, Takeshita went to fight for the company over in America. California was the place where his next NEVER Openweight Title defence was scheduled. KUSHIDA was his challenger in his latest attempt to take on the heavyweights. His gameplan was to start with breaking down Takeshita’s arm before switching to his legs with sweeping Leg Kicks. The plan worked in that it did weaken Takeshita’s moveset and made the match more competitive than first it looked on paper. But Takeshita was able to stand tall in the end and put away KUSHIDA. Takeshita then went ahead and called his shot. When Hiroshi Tanahashi has his final match in America before he retires, Takeshita wants to be his opponent!

If you want to watch a feel good wrestling match to get you out of the new year dumps, go seek out Sumie Sakai’s retirement bout. She teamed up with House Of Torture members EVIL & SHO because of their connections back in their American excursions days. Sakazaki was one of the many people who wanted to be a part of the match as a thank you to Sakai. She got chosen among the lucky trio that included Hiromu Takahashi from NJPW & Mayu Iwatani from Stardom. There was also a female Kamaitachi hanging around at ringside who nobody has been able to identify since (I’ve seen a few guesses it was Iyo Sky because she was in attendance and I appreciate the cheekiness of it if true). Sakazaki whacked SHO over the head with a foreign object and gave him the Tea Time. Sakai ended up fighting on her own and kept kicking out for as long as she could. Takahashi eventually kept her down for the count with the TIME BOMB.

IWA Thailand/SETUP “BANGKOK NAVIGATION”, 18/01/2025
The Circus Studio, G Village, Bangkok, Thailand

1. IWA Japan World Heavyweight Title Tournament – Qualifying Match: Jonathan Johnson defeated Masahiro Takanashi with the Swanton Bomb (?:??).

This month saw SETUP become the new bearers of the International Wrestling Association brand by launching the debut IWA Thailand show. Masahiro Takanashi went over to take part in a tournament to determine the No. 1 Contender for the IWA Japan World Heavyweight Title. He had no problem being the bad guy against Jonathan Johnson and even got some ringside help from Shota getting in Johnson’s way whenever it was convenient. However Johnson fought off the numbers disadvantage and made Shota Super Kick Takanashi by mistake. Johnson then countered the Takatonic into an Implant for a nearfall and then hit the Swanton Bomb to get the upset win, knocking Takanashi out of the tournament in the 1st Round.

GCW “THE PEOPLE VS GCW”, 19/01/2025
Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City, New York, USA

1. GCW Ultraviolent Title & GCW Extreme Title – Doors, Ladders & Chairs Unification Match: Matt Tremont defeated Maki Itoh (E/c), John Wayne Murdoch, Drew Parker, Rina Yamashita, Brandon Kirk, Dr. Redacted and Matthew Justice when Tremont grabbed the titles (15:55).
*Maki Itoh fails in V5. Matt Tremont becomes the 10th GCW Ultraviolent Champion and 11th GCW Extreme Champion!

Maki Itoh took a big gamble and it did not pay off. She wanted to double her title collection in GCW by joining the Doors, Ladders & Chairs match where the vacant GCW Ultraviolent Title was on the line. To do that she agreed to put the GCW Extreme Title up for grabs too so both championships would end up being unified together. John Wayne Murdoch complained about her inclusion at the start of the match, causing Itoh to fake cry so everyone else would attack him in her defence. Itoh also did the ladder spin spot, hitting whoever was in her way until Matthew Justice smashed her with a chair. Her last big spot of the match was diving off a ladder onto everyone else outside the ring. She ended up getting taken out of the match when Drew Parker did the Swanton Bomb from the ladder onto herself and Murdoch through some tables at ringside. Matt Tremont ended up being the last one left to climb the ladder and pull down both belts.

BZW/GCW “ENTER THE ZONE”, 25/01/2025
Espace Isabelle De Hainaut, Rue De Saint-Quentin, France

1. BZW Title: Joseph Fenech Jr. (c) defeated Maki Itoh by Disqualification when Itoh was caught with Brass Knuckles (?:??).
*V7 for Joseph Fenech Jr.

One week later Itoh travelled to Europe with GCW for a weekend of shows in France and England. For a brief moment it looked like Itoh was the new champion of Banger Zone Wrestling when she defeated Joseph Fenech Jr. for the BZW Title. However during the match Fenech placed a pair of brass knuckles into Itoh’s gear so when he lost the match, he complained to the ref and accused Itoh of cheating. The ref inspected Itoh, found the brass knucks “hidden” in her costume and decided to reverse the decision.

AEW “COLLISION – HOMECOMING”, 25/01/2025
Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida, USA

1. TBS Title No. 1 Contender 4 Way Match: Yuka Sakazaki defeated Queen Aminata, Deonna Purazzo and Serena Deeb when Sakazaki pinned Purazzo with a Modified Crucifix Pin (9:28).
2. AEW International Title: Konosuke Takeshita (c) defeated Katsuyori Shibata with the Raging Fire (13:29).
*V7 for Konosuke Takeshita.

Back in AEW, Takeshita called out an unexpected opponent to be his next challenger for the AEW International Title. He wanted a piece of Katsuyori Shibata after seeing him winning matches in ROH! It was a match that just as much existed to show everyone that Shibata can still take bumps because Takeshita Suplexed him around quite a bit. Shibata though was able to withstand the attacks and push back, fighting his way towards a possible title change. However Don Callis in a panic left the commentary booth to grab Shibata’s leg from ringside as a distraction. Takeshita then grabbed Shibata for the Blue Thunder Bomb. Shibata kicked out of that with a 1 Count so Takeshita put him away with the Raging Fire.

Sakazaki’s AEW direction for this month centered around the TBS Championship. She was thrown into the mix of a 4 Way Match to determine the No. 1 Contender. Her chances improved when Queen Aminata and Serena Deeb fought their way out of the ring and away from ringside. She also benefitted from Deonna Purrazzo getting distracted by Taya Valkyrie being attacked by Harley Cameron. With Purazzo’s guard now down, Sakazaki cradled her into a Crucifix Pin to score the three count and earn herself a title match.

GCW “LIVE IN LONDON”, 26/01/2025
Electric Ballroom, London, England

1. Maki Itoh defeated Man Like DeReiss with a Mouse Trap (11:56).

What Itoh lacked in size against Man Like DeReiss she more than made up for it with ego and personality. She quickly reacted to DeReiss’s big entrance by telling him she’s “not scared, you pussy!” DeReiss still took her lightly, making quips on the microphone while Body Slamming her. But Itoh started a comeback while the Pokémon theme song played over the speakers. However DeReiss took a page out of Itoh’s playbook by crying crocodile tears so Itoh would go easy on him. His plan almost worked until Itoh countered a Power Slam into the Mouse Trap cradle to get the pin out of nowhere.

AEW “DYNAMITE”, 29/01/2025
Propst Arena At Von Braun Center, Huntsville, Alabama, USA

1. TBS Title: Mercedes Moné (c) defeated Yuka Sakazaki with the Money Maker (13:40).
*V13 for Mercedes Moné.

Remember back when Mercedes Moné would put out photos and videos on social media of her training at the TJPW dojo and hanging out with the roster? Well after all that time we finally got to see her wrestle a match against someone TJPW related. Moné and Sakazaki got the main event slot on Dynamite for their TBS Title match. Sakazaki got out of the Statement Maker by cradling it into a nearfall. She thought she had Moné where she wanted her by doing a Snap German Suplex. But Moné blocked the Magical Girl Splash with her knees and eventually pinned her with the Moné Maker.

JERICHO CRUISE “CHRIS JERICHO’S ROCK ‘N’ WRESTLING RAGER – SIX ON THE BEACH – NIGHT 1”, 31/01/2025
Norwegian Pearl Cruise Ship

1. Yuka Sakazaki defeated Viva Van (?:??).
2. AEW International Title Eliminator Match: Konosuke Takeshita defeated Tommy Billington (?:??).

Both Takeshita and Sakazaki were a part of Chris Jericho’s annual Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager At Sea cruise. There were four days of shows but from what I could find Sakazaki only wrestled on the first day, beating Viva Van. Takeshita beat the new “Dynamite Kid” Tommy Billington on his first match of the cruise. It has since been promoted in AEW canon as an AEW International Title eliminator match for Ring Of Honor TV. I’ll go through the rest of Takeshita’s matches in next month’s article.

Some of the best wrestling weekends I’ve ever had were in Germany for the 16 Carat Gold tournament. Yamashita’s debut for wXw is only going to be for the third night though. That’s a shame because if she did the entire weekend there would have been a whole list of interesting new matches for her to do.

NJPW “WINDY CITY RIOT”, 11/04/2025
Wintrust Arena, Chicago, Illinois, USA

1. Hiroshi Tanahashi Last Match In The USA Final Road ~Kinship~: Hiroshi Tanahashi Vs KONOSUKE TAKESHITA

America gets a rematch over a decade in the making. In the 2nd year Anniversary of Takeshita’s debut match, he got to fight Tanahashi in his prime at DDT’s Sumo Hall show. He had respect for him for years afterward until 2015 when Tanahashi embarrassed DDT in the same venue. When Takeshita competed in the G1 Climax last year he brought up that situation as a reason for him to chase after Tanahashi in New Japan. Now that Tanahashi is getting ready to retire next year, there’s not a lot of time left to make this match happen. So Takeshita made the demand to be the opponent for Tanahashi’s last match in America (unless AEW gets the itch to book him on super short notice later in the year).

DDT “NEW YEAR, NEW HERO. 2025 ~A NEW STORY BEGINS~” Results

January 26, 2025

DDT “NEW YEAR, NEW HERO. 2025 ~A NEW STORY BEGINS~”, 26/01/2025
Tokyo Korakuen Hall
??? Fans – Unannounced

1. Yuki Iino & Daichi Sato defeated Soma Takao & Yukio Naya when Iino pinned Takao with the Spear (9:30).
2. MAO & Toru Owashi defeated Masahiro Takanashi & Antonio Honda when MAO pinned Honda with a Japanese Leg Roll Clutch Hold (8:29).
3. Jun Akiyama, HARASHIMA & Tomomitsu Matsunaga defeated Daisuke Sasaki, KANON & MJ Paul when Matsunaga pinned KANON with a Sideways Cradle Hold (9:20).
4. DDT Extreme Title – Life’s Sparkle Rules: Danshoku Dieno (c) defeated Gorgeous Matsuno with an Inside Cradle (9:47).
*V2 for Danshoku Dieno.
5. Road To D GENERATIONS CUP 2025! Special 8-Man Tag Match: To-y, Yuya Koroku, Yuni & Kazuma Sumi defeated Takeshi Masada, Keigo Nakamura, Ilusion & Yuki Ishida when Koroku submitted Nakamura with the Modified Triangle Lancer (12:53).
6. DDT Universal Title: Yuki Ueno defeated Gringo Loco (c) with the WR (15:40).
*Gringo Loco fails in V3. Yuki Ueno becomes the 17th DDT Universal Champion!
7. KO-D Openweight Title: Chris Brookes (c) defeated Shuji Ishikawa with the Ground Octopus Stretch (22:21).
*V2 for Chris Brookes.

The second KO-D Openweight Title defence is in the bag for Chris Brookes. He was given a big challenge in the form of Shuji Ishikawa so he took some big risks to try and beat him. He tried attacking him with a stapler but Ishikawa did the same to him. Brookes set up a table at ringside but Ishikawa put him through it with the Fire Thunder and then attacked him with the remains to make the champ bleed. Brookes was able to deal some damage with the Somato and Praying Mantis Bomb but Ishikawa kicked out of them. Ishikawa pulled out another Fire Thunder but Brookes kept on fighting, even kicking out after he was given the Kamigoye and the Splash Mountain. An opening was badly needed to reverse him fortunes and Brookes found one when he avoided the Giant Slam. He jumped onto Ishikawa and clamped him into the Octopus Stretch, pulling him down to the mat and tightening the hold until Ishikawa gave up.

Ishikawa declined to shake Brookes’s hand after the match and left the ring. Brookes was then met with Akito who was serving as the GM in place of Hisaya Imabayashi today. Akito told him the next KO-D Title match will be at DDT’s 28th Anniversary show in Korakuen Hall on 20th March. He asked if Brookes had an opponent in mind? Brookes said there are around 10 people he would like to defend the title against but right now he cannot think straight because of the match he just had. Akito told him he has until the 23rd February Korakuen show to nominate his challenger. Brookes then decided to sing some karaoke in place of Ishikawa, singing “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen. But when he reached the chorus, Ishikawa suddenly returned to the ring to join in! He then shook Brookes’s hand and left again. Backstage he promised the next time he fights Brookes he will be singing The Beatles for karaoke afterwards.

The DDT Universal Title has spent the last two months travelling around North America with Gringo Loco. Today was the first time he was wrestling in Japan since winning the championship at DDT’s Seattle weekend back in November. Yuki Ueno was his opponent of choice and the two provided a match filled with high flying and high impact moves. There were plenty of Frankensteiners, Destroyers and Spanish Flies to be seen. Loco hit the Base Bomb onto the ring apron and also gave Ueno an Avalanche Falcon Arrow. However Ueno hit back with the Dropkick to the Face, a Reverse Hurricanrana and then the WR to win the match and become the new champion! The two shook hands and Ueno told Loco he will see him next time in America.

Ueno called the Universal Title a divine belt that he won again for the first time in years. As much as he would like to spend a month going overseas to defend the belt in countries like America and Mexico, there is another idea he wants to do first. When he thinks about who he could defend the title against, one person immediately came to mind. There is a “Pirate King” he fought last year that he would like to fight again and he finally has the treasure needed to lure him back to DDT. He wants Minoru Suzuki! Akito heard his request and said he will pass it on to Suzuki. A decision over whether or not the title match can happen will depend on Suzuki’s schedule.

With the D GENERATIONS CUP about to start next month, all eight participants were eager to show what they are made of in an 8-Man Tag preview. Well, most of them were. Ilusion spent the last few days complaining about being sick and not wanting to wrestle today so he was nowhere to be seen at the start. His team had to wrestle 4-on-3 until Ilusion finally showed up to attack Takeshi Masada even though they were meant to be partners. They continued to get in each other’s way, allowing Kazuma Sumi & To-y to both get some moves in on them. Keigo Nakamura also got involved trying stop Ilusion from attacking the other team with a chair, distracting him long enough for Masada to Super Kick him. So Ilusion decided to get revenge by attacking Masada with the chair, leaving Nakamura & Yuki Ishida to spend the rest of the match fighting 2 against 4. Ishida in particular used his sumo power to fend off To-y, Yuni & Sumi. That left Nakamura and Yuya Koroku fighting each other by themselves. Koroku blocked Nakamura’s Crucifix Pin and turned it into the Modified Triangle Lancer to get the tap out win for his team.

According to Danshoku Dieno the most important thing in the world is the next second you live so his DDT Extreme Title match against Gorgeous Matsuno only needed a One Count Pinfall to win. The rule meant Matsuno needed to be at his absolute best while his back was against the wall. He constantly kicked out of Dieno’s moves before the pins could be counted but as the match went on, everybody noticed that Dieno was hesitant to use the Lip Lock on his 63 year old opponent. Matsuno saw his chance to win when Dieno missed a Moonsault. He gave Dieno his own Lip Lock, causing Dieno to wretch and collapse to the mat. Matsuno then hit the Gorgeous Superstar Elbow onto Dieno’s back. But when he rolled Dieno over, Dieno caught him with an Inside Cradle to get the one count pin and win.

Matsuno accepted defeat and shook Dieno’s hand before leaving the ring. Akito then told Dieno there is one person he would like Dieno to defend the Extreme Title defence on 20th March. It’s Yuki Iino! Akito explained it is the one match DDT has been avoiding. Their history together as Pheromones continues to cause a lot of trouble because videos of their matches recently demonetized DDT’s Youtube channel. However Akito would like Dieno and Iino to face each other before Pheromones completely disappears from everyone’s memories. Dieno argued against the decision because he wants to decide when he will fight Iino, not DDT. Iino told Dieno it was never the company’s decision to make him quit Pheromones, it was his own. He is also challenging Dieno for the Extreme Title out of his own free will, not because Akito asked him to do it. Akito ensured the two they can do whatever they want in the match as long as it results in the best Extreme Title bout ever. Dieno said he will do it but on one condition. Hisaya Imabayashi must be the referee! Akito agreed to his request and said he will take full responsibility for everything that will happen to Imabayashi.

The next challengers for the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles made themselves known after they beat DAMNATION T.A in a non-title bout. Tomomitsu Matsunaga used KANON’s momentum against him and used an Arm-Trap Cradle to get the three count. Afterward he said he can sense the team of himself, Jun Akiyama & HARASHIMA are good enough to fight Daisuke Sasaki, KANON & MJ Paul again this time with the titles on the line. Akito agreed and booked a title match for 5th February at Shinjuku FACE. Matsunaga promised his team will turn the world upside down when they win the titles from DAMNATION T.A!

When Antonio Honda was winding up his Bionic Elbow in Match #2, MAO quickly removed his own wrestling gear to reveal he was wearing his Antonio Honda XL costume underneath. The two then did mirror spots to Toru Owashi and Masahiro Takanashi before fighting each other in a mirrored setting. MAO ended up becoming the better Honda by reversing the Japanese Leg Roll Clutch for the pinfall. They played Honda’s victory music after the match anyway.

The teenage heavyweight Daichi Sato wanted to fight Yukio Naya directly, leaving Yuki Iino to put away Soma Takao without much danger to worry about.

During the show Kazuasada Higuchi made an appearance to announce his return from injury. He had taken time off from wrestling last June to recover from several injuries including a cervical hernia. Higuchi told the fans he will return on 20th March because the ring means everything to him.

More details were announced for DDT’s collaboration with the anime “Brave Bang Bravern”. There will be merchandise of the characters Isami Ao & Lewis Smith dressed up as Yuki Ueno & MAO under the tag team name Brave Knights. Also on 23rd February DDT will host the pro wrestling debut of the Bravern, the anime’s star mecha! Bravern’s wrestling costume will be designed by the anime’s director Masami Obari.

4. BK-G Openweight Title Decision Match: Chris Brookes defeated Ram Kaichow with the Praying Mantis Bomb (12:51).
*Chris Brookes becomes the 1st BK-G Openweight Champion!

Back in December Chris Brookes made a promise. If he was to successfully defend the KO-D Openweight Title at DDT’s end of the year Sumo Hall show then he will start defending the belt inside ARENA Shimokitazawa. He won that match and wanted to live up to his word at today’s first Baka Gaijin + Friends show of the year. He wanted to do it, Ram Kaichow wanted to have the title match and Daisuke Kiso was ready to let it happen. However a drunk Yukinori Matsui stepped in and stopped it from taking place. He expected something like this was going to happen and he could not let a championship as important as the KO-D Title be defended here. But since Brookes and Kaichow wanted to have a title match so badly, Matsui and Mic Inoue brought along something for them to fight over. It is a homemade title belt called the BK-G Openweight Championship!

Now that a championship match was taking place after all, Matsui and Inoue instantly sobered up to officiate and announce a match that would determine the first ever BK-G Champion. Kaichow blocked the Praying Mantis Bomb and got a nearfall with a Choke Slam. Masahiro Takanashi tried to interfere but it backfired, causing him and Brookes to argue with each other. Kaichow threw Ectoplasm at them but they ducked and Matsui got blinded instead. Kaichow fought off CDK with more Ectoplasm and hit Brookes with the Rainmaker. However Matsui was too blind to see Kaichow pinning Brookes with the Onryo Clutch. Kaichow slapped the sight back into him but left herself vulnerable to a High Kick from Brookes. She kicked out of the Somato but Brookes finally put her away with the Praying Mantis Bomb to win the new title!

How do you do a match to celebrate Antonio Honda’s 20th Anniversary without having Honda there to take part? You send MAO out there dressed in Honda’s gear and have him wrestle as Antonio Honda XL! MAO used many of Honda’s tricks against Hagane Shinno from calling time outs to injuring his knee and telling Gongitsune jokes. When all of that stuff was out of the way, the two traded cradles and nearfalls until the time limit expired. MAO and Shinno raised each other’s hands after the match and left the room together shoulder to shoulder.

Takayuki Ueki was given a surprise opponent in the form of Hideki Suzuki! Ueki requested the match be Best 3 Out Of 5 Falls but immediately lost the first to falls to a Sleeper Hold. Knowing that he can’t beat him in a wrestling match, Ueki then challenged Suzuki to a Push Sumo fight for the 3rd fall. Suzuki easily beat him again. However he didn’t want to let Ueki leave like this so he agreed to fight him for the remaining two falls and if Ueki won the remaining falls he would be declared the winner outright. They decided the 4th Fall would be a game of Jenga but Ueki even lost at that. Fed up with losing, Ueki declared the 5th fall would be a proper wrestling match worth 100 points! Then as soon as the bell rang Ueki pulled out his gun and threatened Suzuki with it. Suzuki went along with Ueki’s demands until he got close enough to disarm him. But Ueki pulled out another gun and we suddenly got a standoff! Ueki shot Suzuki’s gun out of his hand and got cocky, allowing Suzuki to get his gun back and suddenly hold Ueki at gunpoint! Ueki lost his nerve and gave up. When he tried to give a speech after the match, Suzuki shot him in his limbs and walked off.

The opening match saw the return of ChieDK. Takanashi was teaming with Chie Koishikawa which meant Koishikawa got to be Chie Brookes again! Mr. Malo brought a glass bottle to the fight late in the match but Munetatsu Nakamura stopped him from using it as a weapon. Takanashi grabbed the bottle off him but Chie too didn’t want him to swing it at the opponents. Malo and Chie fought over the bottle and Malo ended up physically forcing Chie to smash it over Takanashi’s head. He then rolled up Chie with a School Boy to get the three count.

At the end of the show everyone sang Happy Birthday to Takanashi, MAO and Kiso because they all have birthdays coming soon. Ueki then told them his birthday had already happened (3rd January) so Brookes let him close out the show.

The next Baka Gaijin show will be on 4th March.

4. KOTATSU FIGHTING! Special 6-Man Tag Match: Danshoku Dieno, Yuki Ueno & Jun Akiyama defeated Makoto Oishi, Soma Takao & Antonio Honda when Ueno pinned Honda with a Kotatsu-Style Samson Clutch (14:09).
5. Special Single Match: MAO defeated Kazuma Sumi with the Iai Kick (13:55).
6. Special 6-Man Tag Match: Shuji Ishikawa, HARASHIMA & Akito defeated Chris Brookes, Masahiro Takanashi & Takeshi Masada when Ishikawa pinned Takanashi with the Splash Mountain (20:00).

The size and power of Shuji Ishikawa is something SCHADENFREUDE International couldn’t beat today. Having HARASHIMA & Akito by Ishikawa’s side helped too but the key moment happened when he blocked the Praying Mantis Bomb and then Back Body Dropped Chris Brookes into his own partners. He then pinned Masahiro Takanashi with the Splash Mountain. Ishikawa told the fans he was advised by one of the referees not to sing today if he won. His desire to sing along with his desire to beat Brookes are what powered him up today. He also decided to call his team Smile Squash 2025. Both HARASHIMA & Akito were just as suprised as everyone else when he said that. Backstage Antonio Honda told Brookes if he can overcome Ishikawa he will become an even better KO-D Openweight Champion. Meanwhile Takeshi Masada promised to win the D GENERATIONS CUP for the second time.

The night before this show MAO asked the Grok AI program to predict how his match with Kazuma Sumi would turn out. He was left confused when the AI said he had a finishing move called the Ultra Big Tone. MAO was able to win the match but didn’t use that move because he doesn’t know what it is. He can kind of picture it though so it is now up to him to figure out what the Ultra Big Tone will be! To-y wonders if it involves a destructive ray of some kind? Sumi said there is still a week to go before the KO-D Tag Team Titles match so if there is even a 1% chance he can beat MAO he will take that chance.

It was a cold day so two kotatsu tables were set up in the ring for Match #4. The wrestlers who would usually stand in their corner waiting to tag in were instead allowed to sit under their kotatsu. Eventually the tables and covers were used as weapons as the match heated up. Yuki Ueno ended up using a Samson Clutch on Honda to pin him beneath one of the tables to win the match. With this match Ueno learned that a kotatsu can calm the mind but it also lowers your fighting ability. He also blamed Jun Akiyama for breaking one of the tables.

7. KO-D Openweight Title Next Challenger 4 Way Match: Shuji Ishikawa defeated Danshoku Dieno, HARASHIMA and KANON when Ishikawa pinned KANON with the Splash Mountain (13:20).

A new year brings new challenges. The main event for DDT’s first show of 2025 was a 4 Way Match to determine the No. 1 Contender for the KO-D Openweight Title. The four competitors all have never faced Chris Brookes for the title before so whoever wins would be a brand new challenger for the champion. Danshoku Dieno was extra grabby than usual given the amount of people in the match and Shuji Ishikawa became everyone’s target for being the biggest threat. HARASHIMA almost beat him with the Somato and same went for Dieno using the Gaydo Clutch on him. KANON attacked Dieno in the corner and left him knocked over in the Hell Gate position. That came back to haunt KANON because Ishikawa lifted him up and drove him head first into Dieno’s backside. KANON got revenge by giving Ishikawa the Sleepy Hollow but he only got a two count out of it. Ishikawa returned the attack by giving KANON the Fire Thunder on top of Dieno’s butt. Ishikawa later cut off Dieno with a Knee Lift and pinned KANON with the Splash Mountain to win the match.

Ishikawa told Brookes after the match that he’s wanted a real singles match with him after they wrestled each other in Osaka last May. He knows Brookes is at his strongest whenever he fights for the KO-D Title. So Ishikawa will face him head to head and beat him at his strongest to become the new champion! Brookes told Ishikawa this will be the most interesting title defence. Ishikawa is a little scary but he will be looking forward to fighting him. Ishikawa then promised when he beats Brookes to a pulp on 26th January he will take the belt and sing karaoke in the ring once more to celebrate!

Konosuke Takeshita started a busy weekend by returning to DDT once more with Don Callis joining him. Waiting for him were two heavyweights each hungry to surpass him. Takeshita teamed with Jun Akiyama for the match but it felt more like a 2-Vs-1 Handicap match because Yuki Iino & Yukio Naya were both determined to beat Takeshita directly. They worked together to try and break down Takeshita. Iino hit the Burning Elbow but Takeshita hit him back with the Knee Strike. Naya Choke Slammed Takeshita but Akiyama got in and threw him with the Exploder Suplex. That left Iino to fight Takeshita by himself. He hit two Spears but Takeshita blocked a third one and used the Raging Fire to pin him straight away. Takeshita’s message to his opponents is to never forget how they feel today. The big wrestlers need to train and work 100 times harder than the smaller wrestlers. It’s up to them to make that their weakness or their weapon. Takeshita also gave his support to Tetsuya Endo for his excursion to NOAH. His message to him is putting your life on the line is life changing and he looks forward to seeing him rise up from here. Iino said he is having a great time fighting tough heavyweights like Takeshita and Tomohiro Ishii. Naya promised to avenge this loss to Takeshita when DDT goes back to America in April!

This week is the last we will see Tetsuya Endo in DDT for a while. He made the decision to go wrestle in NOAH for the foreseeable future (he will still be DDT affiliated when he does). His last DDT match will be on 5th January but before that happened he fought Yuya Koroku today. Iino was at ringside for the match so the three final members of BURNING were together. Koroku targeted Endo’s arm and even went high flying with a Moonsault. But Endo had him done for with the Torture Rack Bomb and Burning Star Press. Rather than pin him with that move, Endo got Koroku back up, told him to do his best while he’s gone and then gave him an Exploder Suplex to win the match.

After the match Endo told Koroku he will be find after the breakup of BURNING. He was able to stand with spirit at the end of the match and if he can keep that up he can do it alone from now on. BURNING is gone but Endo will never forget the three years he spent with Iino & Koroku. Endo will now be wrestling in NOAH but that doesn’t mean he is leaving DDT. Once he takes the top spot in NOAH he will come back to take the top sport in DDT! He told Iino and Koroku to get stronger because the next time they fight it will be when the KO-D title on the line!

Match #4 had a pair of unusual appearances in it. First Hikaru Sato came in on short notice to replace Takeshi Masada who was out with a suspected fever. Also Bryce Remsburg from AEW served as the referee for the bout. Sato got involved with CDK’s prank team work while Remsburg was tricked by the other team into taking part in the reversal. Shinya Aoki got to tussle with Sato and also hit a Topé Suicida to everyone outside. Keigo Nakamura missed a Diving Headbutt aimed for Brookes but kicked out of a Piledriver. Brookes then put him in the Octopus Stretch and increased the pressure until Nakamura gave up.

Some French flavour was added to the proceedings with a BZW Tag Team Titles defence. MAO & Yoshihiko came into the match as champions ready to fight the just as wacky pairing of Kazuki Hirata & Antonio Honda. Yoshihiko interrupted Honda’s Gongitsune spot by using AI to come up with its own folk tale to tell everybody. Yoshihiko also grabbed the legs of both opponents and held them in a Double Achilles Tendon Hold called the Arc de Triomphe Hold. The challengers couldn’t withstand the pain and gave up. MAO wants to defend the titles even more and called out teams from any country to come challenge them.

DAMNATION T.A took out a team of youngsters early in the card. Daichi Sato wanted to go toe-to-toe against the similarly sized MJ Paul. The two ended up fighting towards the commentary table where voice actress Hana Hishikawa was sitting as a special guest. She is a notable fan of Paul so he was happy to take a quick time out to go shake her hand before continuing his fight with Sato. Kazuma Sumi and Demus continued their little rivalry with quick exchanges in the ring. Daisuke Sasaki led a train attack on Yuki Ishida and despite a small comeback from Ishida, Ilusion ended up pinning him with the Swanton Bomb.

For the opening match Akito asked Sanshiro Takagi to come down to the ring and come up with a theme for the match. Takagi decided the winner would receive a New Year’s Gift from him taken from his own pocket. The promise of a rich prize was just the encouragement everyone needed to do their best. Toru Owashi and To-y got into a Chop Battle, Super Sasadango Machine and Soma Takao did whatever they could to win and Tomomitsu Matsunaga threw Lariats at whoever was near him friend of foe. In the end To-y pinned Matsunaga with the Kojima Impact and received 10,000 yen from Takagi as his prize. Everyone then tried to attack Takagi for the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title until he ran off.
