IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT 2023

The IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT is back for the first time since 2020. It is also going to be the first time the reigning IRON FIST Tag Team Champions will be competing in the tournament. The 2020 tournament was held to determine the No. 1 Contenders and the 2019 edition was to crown the first champions. Every playoff match has a 30 minute time limit except for the final which has no time limit. If a match ends in a draw then both teams are eliminated. The teams taking part are:

FUMA defended the Union MAX Title against the first of what he says is several people he owes a debt to. According to FUMA some of those people are in BASARA and others like Eisa8 are from outside the promotion. Eisa8 was somebody he had never beaten by himself until today.

Today was Sparky’s last match together as a unit. However none of the members are retiring and know they will continue being in the ring together one way or another.

A week later Brookes and Akai will face each other in another title match, this time with Eruption defending the KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles in Akai’s hometown.

Takeshi Masada has begun a campaign to get himself into this year’s D-Ou Grand Prix. He asked DDT to put him in a few singles matches to prove he is worthy of taking part in the tournament. First up is KANON, a wrestler who had a poor time in last year’s D-Ou GP. That was KANON’s first time in the tournament and he only scored 2 points.

Masada’s next singles match on his road to the D-Ou GP is against last year’s finalist, Yukio Naya. That’s quite a big leap for Masada to fight one of the weakest performers from last year and then one of the strongest.

The All Asia Tag Team Titles are now safe from the dirty hands of Atsushi Onita thanks to BURNING. The new champions are Jun Akiyama & Kotaro Suzuki. If you ask Akiyama that means the belts are now under DDT’s control instead of All Japan. But not if Yoshitatsu has anything to say about it. He is getting a chance to win back the titles and he chose Takao Omori to be his tag partner this time instead on Onita. Since Akiyama wants to defend the title in serious matches instead of death matches, the bout will be contested under PWF rules, which is pretty much the same as standard rules but with a 10 count outside the ring and the title can change hands on a DQ.

The NWA Women’s TV Title normally has a 6:05 time limit because as the name suggests, it was made with a TV show format in mind. God damn it I’m going to have to watch NWA Power again if either Tatsumi wins or Max brings the IP Title over there.

Tatsumi was also a key part of Misao’s history that connects with Akai but I’m too tired to try and write around kayfabe right now.

5. Enter Kazato The Road To The Death Game Of Anger: Choun-Shiryu defeated Daichi Kazato with the Project A (23:22).

Today’s show was all put together by Asian Kung Fu Revolution. Each member of the unit all promised the fans will never know what is going to happen in the matches. For example, Daichi Kazato challenged Choun-Shiryu to a match because he cannot stand the fact there is a person who is more Asian and Kung Fu than Asian Kung Fu Revolution. The two agreed to fight under Game Of Death rules. It featured a large rubber band attached to one of the ropes as well as a balance ball, an iron pot and a ladle for the wrestlers to use a weapons. Kazato held onto the balance ball while he did the Mad Splash but missed and bounced across the ring. Shiryu then gave him the Chinese Gory Special Bomb onto the ball and won the match by hitting the Project A (similar to the Coffin Drop) for the pin. After the match Kazato revealed that when he was a high school student he was invited by Shiryu to train pro wrestling with him. He thinks what he learned that day has helped him survive the business ever since and he wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Shiryu.

Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi claimed he spent a lot of money to bring over a bunch of Hollywood stars for Asian Kung Fu Revolution to fight against. Sylvester Uranone wanted to show off his Rocky skills so he had a boxing showdown with Hiroshi. Kaminold Schwarzenegger spent the match posing in his underwear until it was discovered that his urine test came back positive for a banned substance so he was taken out of the match. FUMA then shot both Uranone and Jason Abeham with his hunting rifle before accidentally shooting KUBITO. Next up, Fuminori Abe came out dressed like The Rock and was followed by SAGAT dressed like Dude Love. FUMA shot them both. Schwarzenegger returned, this time as a Terminator to stop FUMA. With all of this chaos going on, Hiroshi began to sing in the hopes that everyone would get along. They did, even the people who were shot. Since everybody was now holding hands and bringing peace to the world, the match was declared a no contest.

Today was the first time Ryota Nakatsu wrestled against a Mexican luchador so he wanted to try and copy Hijo del Alebrije’s style. He himself admits he wasn’t very good at it but he was able to adjust and pin Alebrije with a Back Roll Clutch. It is a wrestling style he would like to try again.

I still don’t get why Match #2 was called a 6-Man Tag when there were only four wrestlers involved.

For the first time in three years BASARA held their all you can drink “~UTAGE~” show again in Shin-Kiba 1st RING. In the main event FUMA defeated Takumi Tsukamoto to become a three time Union MAX Champion! By beating Tsukamoto today and also Ryota Nakatsu recently, FUMA now thinks he has gotten revenge for all of his biggest failings in the last few years in his bid to become champion again. There are more wrestlers out there he wants to get revenge on. The first one on his mind is a certain wrestler from Osaka who he has never beaten. His name is Eisa8 and FUMA fought him often under a mask in Okinawa Pro. He is going to see what his own schedule is like next month before he challenges Eisa8 to a title match. BASARA will be in Osaka on 23rd September and FUMA also wants the promotion to run a show in Gunma on 14th October.

Gouma Ryu bribed the referee with money to give him the advantage against Nakatsu in the Jacket Match. It caused the ref to count slowly after Nakatsu knocked out Ryu. The ref was given more money by Ryu on the canvas to stop the 10 count entirely. The ref also fast counted Nakatsu and ignored Ryu using his law book as a weapon. When Nakatsu took the book from him and threatened to hit him back, the ref was bribed into disqualifying Nakatsu entirely.

A big upset in early in the show saw Lil’ Kraken & Leo Isaka win as a tag team for the first time against Sento Minzoku. Isaka ended up dodging Isami Kodaka’s finisher and used an Inside Cradle to pin him for the three count. With this result Kraken suggested they challenge Daiki Shimomura & Minoru Fujita for the IRON FIST Tag Titles on 18th September. Fujita later accepted the challenge. He & Shimomura just beat Speed Of Sounds today so what chance do Kraken & Isaka have?

Daichi Kazato announced that Asian Kung Fu Revolution will be producing the 17th September show.

Yesterday Kazuki Hirata and Yukio Sakaguchi met with Hisaya Imabayashi to sign the contract for their DDT Extreme Title match. Hirata admitted he could not think of a match stipulation in time but promised he would come up with something that Sakaguchi would be pleased with. Sakaguchi signed the contract and Hirata suddenly burst into laughter. He actually did come up with rules and Sakaguchi cannot back out now. The match Hirata wants is a Ghost & Balloon Death Match! The match can be won and lost as normal but whenever there is a kickout or rope break either a “Ghost” or a “Balloon” will enter the ring. It turns out that Sakaguchi does not like either ghosts or balloons so Hirata figured out he can use that information to unsettle his opponent. His point was proven when he took out a pair of rubber gloves, blew them up like balloons and then popped them, causing Sakaguchi to flee the room.

Several matches on the show are being sponsored by different beauty products and salon businesses.

This is now going to be the second Saki Akai photobook to wrestle in DDT. The first one is a former Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion because of course it would be! It even beat The Young Bucks autobiography to win it.

1. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Isami Kodaka (c) Vs Shinichiro Tominaga

The second challenger for Kodaka quickly made himself known over the weekend. Shinichiro Tominaga had a brief stare down with Kodaka at the Ganbare☆Pro show on Sunday afternoon and then later that evening threw out the challenge after he beat Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi in BASARA. The two wrestlers go way back to the final years of Union Pro. Tominaga came into the promotion at the beginning of 2012 as the hot new rookie with a lot of promise behind him. His run in that promotion only lasted 6 months of ring time when he fractured his forearm. Then when 2012 rolled around he declined to renew his contract and went back to the lower independents. It is a decision that has stayed on his mind ever since. Was he right or wrong to leave back then? He eventually bounced back by finding GanPro and becoming a regular part of their shows. He now thinks he is able to catch up with Kodaka. If he beats him for the Spirit Of Ganbare Title then it will prove he made the right choice all those years ago.

Not only is this show a homecoming for Rika Tatsumi but it is also where Maki Itoh will return from her latest overseas tour. Aja Kong is coming back to Tokyo Joshi Pro for another match too.

1. Sparky Final Match ~Final Battle At The Place Of Formation~ Elimination 8-Man Tag Match: Ryota Nakatsu, SAGAT, Naoki Tanizaki & Akiyori Takizawa Vs Isami Kodaka, Ryuichi Sekine, Daiki Shimomura & Minoru Fujita

As was promised by Ryota Nakatsu a few months ago, his unit Sparky is going to split up after the entire group gets together one last time. The full goodbye is happening in September due to Naoki Tanizaki & Akiyori Takizawa having their own schedules that conflict with BASARA’s dates. Sparky’s final match as a group is against the full force of Sento Minzoku in an Elimination Match.

Kohei Kinoshita will also be on the show, going along with Tanizaki as the second Dove Pro representative.
