King Of DDT 20th Anniversary

March 18, 2024

The longest running tournament in DDT is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Just ignore the 4 year absence during the middle to late 2000s. This time round the King Of DDT tournament is filled up with previous winners and finalists along with parts of the modern roster making up the field of 16 participants. Every match in the tournament will have no time limit. The semi final pairings will be determined with a lottery after Round 2 has completed. The list of entries this year are:

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TJPW LIVE TOUR 2024 SPRING” Results

March 16, 2024

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TJPW LIVE TOUR 2024 SPRING”, 16/03/2024
Yokohama Radiant Hall
277 Fans – Super No Vacancy Full House

1. Kaya Toribami defeated Kira Summer with the Bird Cage (6:41).
2. 3 Way Match: Rika Tatsumi defeated Mahiro Kiryu and Uta Takami when Tatsumi submitted Takami with the Dragon Sleeper (10:42).
3. Wakana Uehara & Toga defeated Haru Kazashiro & Runa Okubo when Uehara submitted Okubo with the Sleeper Hold (10:25).
4. Maki Itoh & Shino Suzuki defeated Moka Miyamoto & Chika Nanase when Itoh submitted Nanase with the Itoh Punish (8:30).
5. Yuki Aino, Raku & Pom Harajuku defeated Suzume, Arisu Endo & HIMAWARI when Aino pinned Suzume with the UBV (13:43).
6. Miyu Yamashita, Mizuki & Shoko Nakajima defeated Miu Watanabe, Yuki Kamifuku & Nao Kakuta when Yamashita pinned Kakuta with the Skull Kick (15:42).

Today was the last preview matches for some of the upcoming title matches at “GRAND PRINCESS ’24” on 31st March. Miyu Yamashita picked up the win for her team in the main event. She hyped up the big show with Mizuki & Shoko Nakajima afterward. Mizuki said she is really, really happy to team up with Yuka Sakazaki again. She always knew to be careful around Emi Sakura but now she has to be careful of Chris Brookes too. Nakajima said working with large monsters like Aja Kong & Max The Impaler is a dream for a special effects otaku like her. Backstage Yamashita said Miu Watanabe is very strong but she isn’t going to lose to her. She and Nakajima also wished Mizuki a happy birthday. Mizuki and Nakajima then wished Yamashita a happy birthday because that is happening tomorrow.

The way the main event ended made it finally hit home for Nao Kakuta that she will be retiring soon. It is her first match since that announcement and she took the losing fall. All that did though was fire her up for her final months in wrestling. Yuki Kamifuku said she’s had a long morning because her father gave her a lift to the station, made a mistake while driving and got stopped. It reminded Kamifuku that even the slightest mistake can be fatal so she should live her life with the utmost care. Watanabe is familiar with the power of Yamashita’s kicks by now but she knows there is more to her opponent than just that. The way things stand now, Yamashita can see everything Watanabe has to offer but not vice versa.

There was an interview that Ryo Mizunami had on Shukan Puroresu’s website this week about her time in Tokyo Joshi Pro so far. One of the things she brought up is how her and Yuki Aino’s recent tag team success comes from their individual strength rather than their teamwork. An example was on show here when Aino was able to beat Suzume by herself. She had Raku & Pom Harajuku here today for support but when Sumo Hall comes around Yukiniki will be in perfect condition against Daisy Monkey! But things have changed for Daisy Monkey too. Arisu Endo said in the past a lost like this would probably make them cry but they aren’t crying anymore. HIMAWARI is also keeping herself motivated because she wants to do her best for Ami Yumoto’s debut match.

Maki Itoh returned to Japan carrying her newly won GCW Extreme Title with her. She will be fighting Minoru Suzuki at Sumo Hall but today she was teaming with Shino Suzuki. The two are not related and Itoh was disappointed with how plain Shino’s post-match comments were backstage compared to Minoru’s. So Itoh sent a message to Minoru by putting Shino in the Sleeper Hold! She promised she is going to be a woman Minoru Suzuki will never forget!

Now that Runa Okubo is back from her high school entrance exams, she got to see first hand how much all of her wrestling classmates have progressed while she was gone. She is getting a little anxious over seeing how much Haru Kazashiro is getting better than her. But even though she was gone for two months, Kazashiro thinks Okubo is as strong as ever. The two agreed to graduate from junior high and work hard together at Sumo Hall.

Go Home Show For Grand Princess, Takeshita Vs Shunma In USA, GLEAT x DDT

March 13, 2024

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TJPW LIVE TOUR 2024 SPRING”, 16/03/2024
Yokohama Radiant Hall

1. 3 Way Match: Rika Tatsumi Vs Mahiro Kiryu Vs Uta Takami
2. Kaya Toribami Vs Kira Summer
3. Maki Itoh & Shino Suzuki Vs Moka Miyamoto & Chika Nanase
4. Yuki Aino, Raku & Pom Harajuku Vs Suzume, Arisu Endo & HIMAWARI
5. Wakana Uehara & Toga Vs Haru Kazashiro & Runa Okubo
6. Miyu Yamashita, Mizuki & Shoko Nakajima Vs Miu Watanabe, Yuki Kamifuku & Nao Kakuta

This will be the last proper Tokyo Joshi Pro show before “GRAND PRINCESS ’24” at the end of the month. There’s a few small scale sideshows coming up but this is pretty much the go home show. So it’s the final chance for Miyu Yamashita and Miu Watanabe to square off in non-title action as well as Yuki Aino against Daisy Monkey.

The show also has some returns. Maki Itoh will be back from America as the brand new GCW Extreme Champion. Also Runa Okubo has her first match since the start of January.

Hyper Misao is still out of action with a lower back injury. She hasn’t been booked for either of the side TJPW shows coming up so her return will be at Sumo Hall.

Two more matches added to the DDT USA show. The big one is Konosuke Takeshita facing his old buddy Shunma Katsumata! Last year’s show was a chance for Takeshita to see what Yuki Ueno is like without him. Now it is Katsumata’s turn to step up to him.

A CCK reunion is on the card! Chris Brookes & Kid Lykos are back together for a match against the wild card pairing of Bryan Keith & Shota.

10. KO-D Tag Team Titles: Tetsuya Endo & Yuki Iino (c) Vs Ryuki Honda & Yuma Anzai
11. DDT Extreme Title – Painful Jungle Death Match: Shunma Katsumata (c) Vs Hideki Okatani
12. DDT Universal Title: MAO (c) Vs Takeshi Masada
13. KO-D Openweight Title: Yuki Ueno (c) Vs HARASHIMA

Over the weekend Super Sasadango Machine noticed something. He is on the poster for this show but hasn’t been booked for a match yet. He thought he was going to be on the show anyway because DDT is celebrating its 27th anniversary so he kept his busy schedule free for that day. Akito used his vice president duties to look into it and apologized when he found out that DDT did indeed forget to book Sasadango for the show. To make up for it one more match has been added to the 5 hour show and Akito himself will be Sasadango’s opponent. Now Keisuke Ishii is also getting booked in order to take Akito’s original spot in Match #3. Sasadango has since showed his appreciation to Akito for owning up o the mistake and apologized for giving him extra work to do. So for the first time ever we’re getting a wrestling match where the buildup involves both wrestlers constantly apologizing to each other.

BASARA “BASARA 244 ~UTAGE~”, 19/03/2024
Shin-Kiba 1st RING

1. Isami Kosaka Vs Kazusada Higuchi
2. Union MAX Title: Minoru Fujita (c) Vs Masato Kamino

At the last BASARA show the top two members of Sento Minzoku challenged Harimao for the IRON FIST Tag Team Titles. The match cannot happen just yet because Minoru Fujita is already scheduled to defend the Union MAX Title and he does not want to take part in another championship bout on the same show. So instead Isami Kodaka will face one-half of the champions Kazusada Higuchi in a singles match to give fans a preview of the full course.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “BALLO BALLO ~ IT’S A BATTLE SHOW~”, 20/03/2024
Shinjuku FACE

1. Shino Suzuki & Uta Takami Vs HIMAWARI & Haru Kazashiro
2. Raku & Pom Harajuku Vs Mahiro Kiryu & Toga
3. Miu Watanabe & Moka Miyamoto Vs Shoko Nakajima & Wakana Uehara

The Up Up Girls (Pro Wrestling) are holding their own event that is a mixture of both wrestling matches and a concert. All currently active members will be involved. The management group behind the unit has already said Hikari Noa will not be at the show. She is gradually being mentioned or shown on promotional material again so to me that is a small but positive sign towards her eventually coming back. I think her future will be more clear next month after “GRAND PRINCESS ’24” and the American shows are out of the way. We’re more likely to see her in public again before Kate Middleton that’s for sure.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO/GANBARE☆JOSHI “SHUFFLE DATE 2024”, 22/03/2024

4. Yuki Kamifuku & YuuRI Vs HIMAWARI & Riara
5. Yuna Manase & Nao Kakuta Vs Shoko Nakajima & Yoshiko Hasegawa

All of the Ganbare☆Joshi wrestlers have been booked already so the remaining card is filled with just Tokyo Joshi Pro girls.

TOKYO JOSHI PRO “TJPW LIVE IN PHILLY”, 05/04/2024
Penns Landing Caterers Auditorium, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

1. Hyper Misao Vs Billie Starkz
2. Shoko Nakajima Vs Rhio
3. Yuki Aino & Raku Vs Yuki Kamifuku & Viva Van
4. Suzume & Arisu Endo Vs Nao Kakuta & Zara Zakher
5. Mizuki & Vert Vixen Vs Max The Impaler & Pom Harajuku
6. Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh Vs Rika Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe

This is the complete TJPW card you’re going to get in Philadelphia. Hmmm… I’m not that hot on it to be honest. If last year’s USA show was comparable to a Korakuen Hall show this one is more Ryogoku KFC Hall. I guess they’re a bit more conservative this time around because they have the second show with GCW the day after.

Speaking of GCW, Maki Itoh won the GCW Extreme Title in a 6 Way Scramble match on Saturday night! I’ll write more about it in the next DDT Around The World article at the end of the month.

BASARA “BASARA 245 ~YOKOHAMA STORY~”, 20/04/2024

12. KO-D Openweight Title: Yuki Ueno (c) Vs HARASHIMA

The Painful Jungle Death Match will feature dangerous items placed on or covering over each of the turnbuckle corners, turning the ring into a painful jungle! Shunma Katsumata hasn’t said what the weapons are and is keeping it quiet. It’s all up to Hideki Okatani and the fans to imagine what hazards he would put inside a “painful jungle” ring. Other death match weapons will be available to use in the match too.

Wakana Uehara, Toga and Haru Kazashiro will be on the show and are waiting to find out what their matches are. Sayuri Namba will be the ring announcer for the show. Sadly that means Michiko Nonaka won’t be there to represent the GanJo side.

2. Danshoku Dieno defeated Rukiya with the Oyashirazu (5:54).
3. Special Single Match: Yoshitatsu defeated Soma Takao with the This Is My WWE (9:51).
4. Tetsuya Endo & Yuki Iino defeated Kazusada Higuchu & Makoto Oishi when Iino pinned Oishi with the Spear (13:05).
5. Special 6-Man Tag Match: Yuki Ueno, Shunma Katsumata & To-y defeated HARASHIMA, Yukio Naya & Hideki Okatani when Katsumata pinned Okatani with a Foot Stomp (17:06).
6. KO-D 10-Man Tag Team Titles: Chris Brookes, Masahiro Takanashi, Antonio Honda, Takeshi Masada & Mecha Mummy (c) defeated Maya Yukihi, Ram Kaichow, Rina Yamashita, Sanshiro Takagi & Akito when Honda pinned Akito with a Japanese Leg Lock Clutch (23:45).
*V1 for SCHADENFREUDE International & Mecha Mummy.

The business alliance of DDT’s management and RebelxEnemy was not powerful enough to dethrone SCHADENFREUDE International. With the KO-D 10-Man Tag Team Titles on the line, the champions retained thanks to Antonio Honda in the end. It came down to Honda after Sanshiro Takagi got rid of Takeshi Masada with the Sling Blade and Stunner. Also Mecha Mummy’s drill failed against the toughness of Rina Yamashita. The bright spot for SCHADENFREUDE came when Chris Brookes Military Pressed Ram Kaichow out of the ring onto everyone on the floor below. Honda had to fight with Akito and came out the better of a back and forth exchange by pinning Akito with a Japanese Leg Lock Clutch. Honda thanked his team and told them they are all good men (or mecha in Mecha Mummy’s case). He admits he keeps losing and the thing he is losing most lately is the flow of time. He is 46 and that scares him. But he is able to win today’s match because of his friends. He doesn’t just mean SCHADENFREUDE International but also everyone who came to see the show today, especially those who bought merchandise! Backstage they all celebrated with drinks and splashed bottles of water over Honda. Some of it splashed onto Mummy though and it short circuited.

Meanwhile the RebelxEnemy wrestlers were mad at Takagi & Akito for losing the match. Maya Yukihi really wanted to win the titles and is so upset about losing it makes her want to cry. Kaichow put all of the blame on those two and even fired them! She doesn’t know what she is firing them from but they’re fired. Takagi pleaded with Kaichow to change her mind and offered her a new business partnership. Kaichow considered it depending on how much they will be paid for it. Takagi told her to discuss that with Akito and left him alone to deal with the negotiations. Akito didn’t know what to do so he told RebelxEnemy he will call them and then ran off. Kaichow told the others it’s no wonder why DDT only consists of men nowadays.

Two of the upcoming title matches were showcased in the semi-main event. It showed The 37KAMIINA are in good shape going against their challengers. HARASHIMA landed the Somato on Yuki Ueno but Ueno kicked out of the pin and fired back with a one legged Dropkick. Shunma Katsumata won the match in the end by catching Hideki Okatani with a standing Double Stomp to get the pinfall. Katsumata bragged about how well he’s been doing since returning from injury and he will keep the momentum going until he defends the DDT Extreme Title against Okatani. He wants Okatani to know that he can still wrestle without the need for weapons or death matches. HARASHIMA believes he is in great shape too even if the match result doesn’t reflect it.

Danshoku Dieno had a toothache going into his match against Rukiya and it bothered him throughout. Rukiya took advantage by using Headlocks and Elbow Strikes aimed at Dieno’s jaw. However Dieno countered one of the Headlocks into a Modified Armbar and Rukiya gave up. Dieno held onto the move after the match because the toothache was getting to him. Makoto Oishi had to get into the ring and get him to stop.

The new unit led by Kazuki Hirata now has a name. He is calling the group Zuncha♪Muscle Survivor! It combines a little bit of everything from the three members. Hirata is the Zuncha (rhythm of the beat), Naruki Doi is the Muscle and Shinya Aoki is the Survivor. He believes as long as the focus is on the two strong members Doi & Aoki, they won’t lose.

4. EVE International Title: Yuu (c) defeated Yoshiko Hasegawa with a Katahajime (12:12).

5. Yuna Manase Return Match: Sayaka Unagi & Minoru Fujita defeated Yuna Manase & Yumehito Imanari when Fujita pinned Manase with the Modified Samson Clutch (18:28).
6. Spirit Of Ganbare World Openweight Title: Shuichiro Katsumura (c) defeated Takuya Wada with the Ninja Choke (14:09).
*V2 for Shuichiro Katsumura.

It’s full steam ahead as all the pieces for Ganbare☆Pro preparations to move into independent life continue falling into place. The championship scene currently belongs to Shuichiro Katsumura. He remains as GanPro’s double champion after he successfully defended the Spirit Of Ganbare Title against his tag team partner Takuya Wada. He told the fans afterwards he’s been friends with Wada for almost 30 years but haven’t gotten to fight him much. Today’s result proves that nobody is stronger than himself but if there’s anybody stronger than Wada then they should step forward. Soma Takao entered the ring but it wasn’t to challenge for the SOG Title. He invited Shota to enter beside him because ROMANCE DAWN want to fight GROUND ABSOLUTE for the Spirit Of Ganbare Tag Team Titles! Shota will be leaving GanPro to go freelance soon and Takao doesn’t know how often ROMANCE DAWN will get to team up here again in the future. In fact that may mean ROMANCE DAWN will soon become GanPro’s enemy. If they win the SOG Tag Titles then that means they can bring the belts wherever Shota decides to go next. GROUND ABSOLUTE accepted the challenge for 20th March.

A fully recovered Yuna Manase returned to the ring for her first match in around 13 months. She arrived in a new costume to team with Yumehito Imanari against Sayaka Unagi & Minoru Fujita. The opposing team carried their collection of championship belts with them to the ring. Unagi approached Manase to hug her but it was a trap and she bit her breast instead. That wasn’t the first time she did that. Manase fought back with Imanari at her side. She gave Fujita a Power Bomb and also kicked out of the SAYONARA Tombstone. Manase was at her limit throwing Elbow Strikes at Fujita but he wasn’t effected by them. Fujita then used the Modified Samson Clutch to roll her up for the three count. He congratulated Manase for her successful return and called her the symbol of GanPro. He then tried to pin Unagi for the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title as they were leaving the ring but she kicked out and chased him out of the room. Two title changes back and forth did happen between them backstage after the show. Manase said she was happy how her return match went but she does not want the story to end with her losing. She asked Imanari to help her so they can beat Fujita & Unagi together.

A Camel Clutch version of the Katahajime ended Yoshiko Hasegawa’s hopes of winning the EVE International Title. After the match Yuu thanked Hasegawa for gathering together a big crowd on a big stage for them to wrestle at. Yuu hates it when she hears wrestlers talk about their growth but she thinks Hasegawa is passionate beyond words. Since Hasegawa is becoming a freelancer that means she is going to be Yuu’s rival from now on! Yuu will win more championships for Hasegawa to challenge her for and whenever Hasegawa becomes a champion, Yuu will come looking to be her first opponent.

The show began with Shinichiro Tominaga and HARUKAZE speaking to the fans. Tominaga became a full time member of GanPro this month but has been wrestling for the promotion since its beginning. He spent the last 11 years waiting for Ken Ohka to ask him to join the company. It wasn’t until GanPro started planning its split from CyberFight that he finally asked him! Tominaga said he thought about it for only 2 minutes before he accepted the offer. His moral of the story is if you have something to say to somebody important to you, let them know right away. HARUKAZE talked about Yokohama being her hometown and how her parents’ house is only a 10 minute drive away from the venue.

Ken Kato Fired, Sumi Injured, Itoh Vs Suzuki

February 21, 2024

Yesterday DDT announced they terminated the contract of their ring announcer Ken Kato. Their reasoning was Kato made inappropriate comments on social media and showed no remorse over them when was given a stern warning. DDT then fired him because his behaviour was seen as a breach of contract. The weird thing about this story is very few people online seem to know what it was Kato did to get into trouble. His profile is already scrubbed from the DDT site and his Twitter account is gone. There is a streaming site he also has an account with but nobody outside the company has been able to find out what he did or where it happened. Whatever it was, DDT does not condone it and are putting changes in place for their wrestlers and staff to avoid this from happening again.

5. Princess Of Princess Title: Miyu Yamashita (c) Vs Miu Watanabe

Today Maki Itoh visited the Piledriver clothing shop in Harajuku hoping to see Minoru Suzuki. The reason for this was so Itoh could ask Suzuki to team up with her at “GRAND PRINCESS ’24”. Her selling point was the cutest person in the world joining forces with the worst personality in the world again. They have been on the same team once before in DDT back in December 2022. It created buzz back then and still gets attention today so Itoh wanted to team with Suzuki again. However Suzuki came up with an even more buzzworthy idea. He and Itoh should fight each other on the show in a singles match! Itoh was left speechless by the suggestion but regained her composure and accepted the challenge. She promised to end Suzuki’s legendary career in Sumo Hall! Suzuki shrugged her off, telling Itoh her wrestling career is the size of his little finger by comparison.

Niigata Weekend, Aoki Joins Hirata’s New Unit, Ueno Challenged By HARASHIMA

7. Shoko Nakajima & Hyper Misao Vs Miu Watanabe & Moka Miyamoto

Both DDT and Tokyo Joshi Pro are doing a doubleshot in Niigata this weekend. TJPW goes first with Shoko Nakajima’s homecoming show. Fans are permitted to throw streamers into the ring for the entrances in the main event.

There is a small but notable update put out today about Hikari Noa. She is still taking time away from pro wrestling as well as her idol career with The Up Up Girls but now it is because of personal reasons rather than health reasons. The only clue towards how long this will last comes from The Up Up Girls’ talent agency. They announced Noa will not be at their next big concert being held on 20th March. It’s been obvious her absence is not because of injury or other physical health reasons. There are rumours online about a personal situation with a female fan has allegedly gotten Noa into trouble. But we don’t know for sure if what’s happening here is a secret suspension or something else entirely. We just have to wait a while to see what will happen next.

DDT’s show in Niigata the next day is Super Sasadango Machine’s homecoming but he’s not as important so just drop his match there in the mid-card.

DDT “INTO THE FIGHT 2024”, 25/02/2024
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Chris Brookes, Masahiro Takanashi & Antonio Honda Vs Yuki Iino, Yuni & Kazuma Sumi
2. Daisuke Sasaki & KANON (w/ MJ Paul) Vs Akito & Soma Takao
3. Kazusada Higuchi & Yoshitatsu Vs Yukio Naya & Rukiya

7. Kaisei Takechi Debut Match ~ Special 6-Man Tag Match: Yuki Ueno, Shunma Katsumata & Kaisei Takechi Vs Tetsuya Endo, Hideki Okatani & Takeshi Masada

Kazuki Hirata has found the third man of his new unit. It is somebody he developed a bond with when they fought each other in an “All Men Are Equal” death match in 2021. It is Shinya Aoki! The choice makes sense because Hirata connected with Naruki Doi under similar circumstances. Does that mean Doi and Aoki will both show up to the match dressed like and acting like Hirata?

DDT “NARAHA TOWN RESIDENT WRESTLER TOY KOJIMA THANKSGIVING DAY – NARAHA TOWN COME ON!”, 03/03/2024

During the week Toy Kojima renamed himself To-y. That is supposed to be a permanent change but one condition has since been revealed. From now until the end of the current fiscal year (i.e. the end of March) To-y will still be called Toy Kojima whenever he is in his hometown of Naraha. Once that is done he will get to be called To-y wherever he goes.

2. Special Single Match: Sanshiro Takagi Vs Ken Ohka
3. Special Single Match: KONOSUKE TAKESHITA Vs Yuma Aoyagi
4. KO-D Tag Team Titles: Tetsuya Endo & Yuki Iino (c) Vs Ryuki Honda & Yuma Anzai
5. DDT Extreme Title: Shunma Katsumata (c) Vs Hideki Okatani
6. KO-D Openweight Title: Yuki Ueno (c) Vs HARASHIMA

Yuki Ueno has just defeated DDT’s icon Danshoku Dieno and now HARASHIMA is stepping up to challenge him. When HARASHIMA fought Yukio Sakaguchi in Sakaguchi’s final match, it sparked a fire inside him and reminded him that he is the undisputed ace of DDT. So if he is the ace then that means he should be good enough to win the KO-D Openweight Title again. While Ueno respects and admires HARASHIMA, he isn’t going to treat this match like a wide-eyed boy getting to be in the ring with his hero. He wants to become DDT’s ace himself!

The show will also have the return of Yuya Koroku. He’s been out of action with a torn triceps since November.

NOAH “THE LEAVE PRESENTS LIMIT BREAK EX.”, 20/03/2024
Yokohama Radiant Hall

A few days after this show a bunch of DDT wrestlers will be crossing over to NOAH. The other CyberFight men’s promotion debuted a new event series this week called “LIMIT BREAK”. During the show Tetsuya Endo, Kazusada Higuchi, Yuki Iino and Rukiya showed up and announced they will be taking part on the second “LIMIT BREAK” show on 20th March. Higuchi mentioned Kazuyuki Fujita by name as a NOAH wrestler he would like to face.
