Sakazaki In AEW, Sunday’s Tripleheader, RAGE Sponsors Ryogoku Main Event, Miyagi Back In Ganpro

This week All Elite Wrestling announced they will be bringing Yuka Sakazaki to Las Vegas for their “DOUBLE OR NOTHING” show on 25th May. Tokyo Joshi Pro have a show at Kitazawa Town Hall taking place the same day and confirmed that Sakazaki will not be there. Both DDT Universe and their official Youtube channel have uploaded a bunch of Sakazaki matches for everyone to watch, which I recommend you do if you haven’t seen much of her yet. It’s a good choice as she is essentially Tokyo Joshi’s number two wrestler after Miyu Yamashita. What Sakazaki has over Yamashita in this instance is a bit more flexibility with the AEW women’s roster announced so far. For example I think AEW could team Sakazaki with Kylie Rae for a match against Aja Kong and Nyla Rose. Based onn personality alone the pairing of Sakazaki and Rae would mesh well although the combination might be so sugary sweet it would give everybody sitting in the first three rows diabetes.

Here’s where we can have fun making speculations over the news. A couple of days before this announcement, Sanshiro Takagi recorded a Q&A session on DDT Universe. One of the questions asked about DDT working with AEW and (going by @ddtpro_eng’s translation) Takagi flat out said “yup”. Gossip online about the two groups forming an alliance has been around since the days of AEW’s launch too. Meanwhile this is going around while talk of WWE entering the Japan market and teaming up with a Japanese company for a hypothetical NXT Japan is heating up. Add DDT’s new relationship with Fight Club: PRO and their association with WWN for Wrestlemania week this year along with companies all around the world deciding who to buddy up with and we can make a relationship chart that is nigh on impossible to comprehend at a time when lines are supposedly being drawn for a new wrestling war that is about to begin.

Wrestlemania week this year really feels like it’s going to be the climactic final chapter in this current era of the wrestling industry. Between this being the last Wrestlemania before WWE’s gigantic TV deal kicks in, the New Japan & ROH alliance hitting its peak in Madison Square Garden, the shadow of AEW looming over everyone and a ton of promotions from North America, Europe AND Japan charging head first into the state of New York praying to hit a jackpot for their efforts the aftermath is going to be crazy even if nothing about our own wrestling following habits change.

Oh right, this is meant to be a DDT blog. Let’s go back to talking about them again then.

MAO has been getting victories over Yukio Sakaguchi and Masahiro Takanashi under fluke circumstances. He now faces Takanashi one on one and Takanashi has used some creative ideas to win his singles matches recently.

Naomi Yoshimura has ditched Danshoku Dieno and is now on his own. However Yuki Ueno wants him to join DISASTER BOX and he has the approval of HARASHIMA to invite him in. Yoshimura hasn’t answered yet. He and Ueno are generational rivals but maybe forming a tag team together isn’t a bad idea. It worked out well the last time with Takeshita and Tetsuya Endo. Just ignore the part where Endo hates Takeshita’s guts now.

All I know is he is a business man who learned capoeira and joined Muscle to became a pro wrestler. Now in his 50s, Takaishi will now call an end to his pro wrestling career. Or at least Super Sasadango Machine is making him do it as a selling point for this show.

If there is one person who is qualified to write the definitive textbook on pro wrestling, it’s Shinjiro Otani. He’s coming to Ganbare☆Wrestling to teach a lesson or two towards Yumehito Imanari.

Keisuke Ishii is ready to defend Ganpro’s honour against Minoru Fujita. Most of the roster have fallen to Fujita so now it’s up to Ishii.

As of 26th January Shuichiro Katsumura has a full time member of Ganpro.

The Sento Minzoku feud has led to a reunion between Ken Ohka and Isami Kodaka. The two have a long history together from their Union Pro days and plenty has changed with both since they were last in the ring together.

Nobuhiro Shimatani is out of action for around two months with an injured left rotator cuff. This means he is off the shows until at least March. The good news is he does not need to have surgery. Daisuke Sasaki was so upset over Shimatani’s injury that he briefly considered splitting up DAMNATION. Not because he’s concerned for Shimatani but more because they will now get nothing done without their manager running around doing their chores for them.

Danshoku Dieno is keeping himself busy at shows while he recovers from his injuries. At Korakuen Hall he will be give out tarot readings to fans for 1,000 yen.

One, Saiki already had a chance to win them back when she teamed with Maki Ito during Kobashi’s absence but lost the match. And two, another team wants to be in the next title match. Natsumi Maki & Hikari Noa are that other team. In her short time here in Tokyo Joshi Pro, Maki has spent most it in the ring with Noa both as teammates and opponents.

Chinsuke Nakamura spent today fighting off other pro wrestling impersonators outside Shin-Kiba 1st RING. The impersonators Hiroshi Tanabota and Monooki Goto approached Chinsuke several times to try and win the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title. Chinsuke chased them off each time until the venue’s manager Mr. Sato opened a door and accidentally knocked Chinsuke out. Mr. Sato unintentionally pinned Chinsuke while he checked on him and ended up becoming the champion. Chinsuke won back the title a little while later when he ambushed Sato inside the building and trapped him under a ringside mat. Tanabota and Goto applauded from the bleachers.

Yuka Sakazaki stood beside the arguments going on between the two teams vying for a title shot. She misread the situation and thought they were asking for a 4 Vs 2 match of some sort. To her credit, that kind of thinking might have avoided putting the Magical Sugar Rabbits in a situation where they would defend the titles against both teams in a 3 Way Tag Match. Instead they will go head to head with the better team out of the two potential challengers.

I’ve since figured out that Danshoku Dieno’s new creation OsuMAN Dankon is going to be some sort of mascot costume (aka a yura-chara). He must be trying to cash in on the recent popularity of Chiitan and Nyango Star. But now Dankon’s name has been changed to Chin Godzilla and even then that might not be the final choice by the time the show takes place.

The Iron Man Title Battle Royal is the most packed in years. Some new faces include Yuka Sakazaki and Mina Shirakawa from Tokyo Joshi Pro, Asuka, El Lindaman from #STRONGHEARTS, Scorpio X2 from OWE and last but not least Maku Donaruto.

We’re getting a rare singles match on the pre-show. Usually those matches on DDT Sumo Hall cards are all tags and Battle Royals.

Naomi Yoshimura has been given the go ahead to come back to the ring. He spent three days in the hospital when he was diagnosed with a cervical sprain over new year’s. Yoshimura was a little worried to start getting active until he was assured everything was okay. He is able to train the same amount as he could before his injury. Daisuke Sasaki’s comments about Yoshimura that were made immediately after the injury happened still stick with him but he is going to start from the bottom of the ladder again, which is why his first match back is against Yuki Ueno. Yoshimura has never lost a match to Ueno and he was also his opponent for his first singles match. Yoshimura feels this is the perfect test to see if he has healed back to normal.

Naomichi Marufuji has been wanting to wrestle in DDT for a while now but injuries have delayed such plans from being made. That was until this week when DDT revealed he will be at “JUDGEMENT 2019” for a match against Tetsuya Endo! Marufuji’s return from injury will first happen in NOAH on 1st February. After that he will shift his attention over to DDT and Endo. Marufuji thinks Endo has the potential to be one of the best wrestlers in Japan and he wants to experience that potential for himself. Endo respects Marufuji but thinks he is different from him. He doesn’t care about having a good match, he only wants to crush Marufuji when they meet in the ring! Endo also thinks Marufuji won’t be able to reach his best condition in time for the match. Not just physically but mentally too. Endo proved how little he cares about the importance of this match by eating his lunch during the press conference while sitting next to NOAH’s president Masayuki Uchida. Although in Endo’s defence it was 5:40pm and he had to eat his homemade meal exactly two hours before his next protein drink.

The newest foreign wrestler to debut in DDT is Space Monkey! According to DDT’s write up he is a monkey born in Canada, was sent to a space centre in America for experiments, escaped back to Canada, was captured in the mountains and then sold off to numerous circuses. Monkey eventually ran away, started a pro wrestling career four years ago and somehow successfully pitched the idea to DDT to get booked by them. Monkey already has some notoriety among the Japanese wrestling fanbase. In 2017 he was nominated for Best Foreigner by the Nico Nico Pro Wrestling website.

Kikutaro will also be on the show.

We haven’t seen the last of #STRONGHEARTS in DDT after all. Their home promotion OWE ordered the group to avenge their losses to DDT and not to come back until that mission has been accomplished.
