Promises were made by Naruki Doi and KANON that their DDT Universal Match would be just between them with no bystanders around the ring, let alone any interference. Obviously that turned out to be a lie. KANON did walk out to the ring on his own and fought by himself for a while. But once Doi had everything going his way MJ Paul burst out of hiding to interfere in the match. Luckily for Doi, Toru Owashi made his way to the ring to counter Paul and return the match back to a level playing field. In a fair fight KANON did his best but two Bakatare Sliding Kicks back to back left Doi retaining his championship.

After the match Doi said he could tell KANON was being unusually emotional and realised he really did try to win the title off of him. Doi hates guys like KANON and Daisuke Sasaki but he will always want to fight them too so they should have another match sometime. At this point in his victory speech, Doi noticed that nobody was heading down to the ring to challenge him for a title match. So Doi decided to call out Tetsuya Endo! It had to be explained to him that Endo wasn’t at the show today because of a fever so the show ended with that potential match hanging in the air. Endo did tweet out later he would like to do the match.

Yukio Naya had a face off with HARASHIMA after their 6-Man Tag Match. Backstage Naya said he knows HARASHIMA’s strikes are strong but he was the winner today. He is confident he will be the winner against HARASHIMA at Korakuen Hall too on 26th February. HARASHIMA admitted he can feel the momentum and strength coming from his opponent is higher than ever before. It only makes him look forward to the match even more!

The Master Of Environment Match had two green ropes stretching across the ring with one attached to the middle ring ropes and the other attached to the bottom ropes. The turnbuckle pads were also removed. Akito came up with these moves to test Jun Akiyama’s mobility as well as give the two wrestlers more ways to leverage pinfalls and submission holds. The limited space caused Akiyama and Akito to get tangled in the green ropes in multiple ways. Yukinori Matsui also had trouble moving around and tripped out of the way at one point. Akito used that as an opportunity to add a third green rope. When Matsui noticed the extra rope and went to remove it, Akito crotched Akiyama and cradled him for a nearfall. Akiyama then grabbed Akito in the Exploder Suplex position and began to set him up for the Wrist-Clutch version. Akito grabbed a green rope to keep himself grounded but Akiyama then rolled him over with an Inside Cradle to get the three count. Akito later blamed the green ropes for betraying him and making him lose. He’ll never fight in this kind of match ever again!

After the match Akiyama announced his who his next DDT Extreme Title challenger is going to be. He called down Kotaro Suzuki! There was a pause until Suzuki came down to the ring. Akiyama joked about him being late and having bad timing. He also pointed out that Suzuki often wrestles by different rules because of his freelance status. Wouldn’t being a champion make him even more attractive as a freelancer? If he can beat Akiyama in a hard hitting, no nonsense match then Akiyama will let Suzuki stay here in DDT! Suzuki accepted the challenge and the match will take place at DDT’s 26th Anniversary show on 21st March.

The arrival of Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford to DDT is already paying off for the couple. Sabian’s first match here had him spearheading an international trio with Chris Brookes & Hagane Shinno. Ford wasn’t afraid to get involved either because she gave Kazusada Higuchi a Hurricanrana and Yuki Ishida a Missile Dropkick whenever the ref wasn’t looking. She even played into the result, giving Sabian aid to set up his Deathly Hallows finisher to Ishida. Backstage Shinno was full of praise for Sabian, telling the media there are so many amazing wrestlers like him in AEW. According to Shinno, maybe we will see more of them in DDT soon? Sabian talked about how when he saw the Kenny Omega Vs Kota Ibushi match at Budokan Hall eleven years ago, he knew from that day on he wanted to come to DDT. Today he finally made it and he got to team up with Brookes again for the first time in years. Now he has his eyes set on next week’s appearance in Korakuen Hall.

That’s not all though. Ford got even more attention backstage by becoming the new Iron Man Heavymetalweight Champion! Sabian & Ford spotted Saki Akai walking backstage and hatched a plan. Sabian distracted Akai by introducing himself to her and starting a conversation. Ford then gave Akai a School Boy, got the three count and the couple ran off with the belt!

The last block matches in the D GENERATIONS CUP have now set up the final on 26th February. The A Block had two unbeaten wrestlers left, Hideki Okatani and Yuya Koroku. A Running Elbow Butt from Koroku turned out to be the difference maker sending him right into the final. Over in the B Block Takeshi Masada had to fight from behind against Toi Kojima to win the match. Due to the head to head result that means Masada just barely makes it to the final, keeping his Hollywood dream only one more step away from finally becoming a reality.

Today’s show in Nagoya had a heaping amount of SKE48 involved. Not only did Yuki Arai feature in the main event but she was also part of a mini concert that was held in the ring during the show. Arai was put in the headline match because she was facing against her “GRAND PRINCESS ’23” opponent Aja Kong in a tag match with Miyu Yamashita and Moka Miyamoto also involved. Arai even got the win in the end by pinning Miyamoto. However she admitted to the audience afterwards she was in a frustrated mood because Kong is still there standing. She wants to show everyone from Yamashita to the fans that she can beat Kong on her own next month.

Yesterday Janai Kai said she had counters at the ready to deal with Miu Watanabe and they were all built around heavy kicks. It kept Watanabe at bay for a while until she was able to catch Kai’s leg and pull her into the Giant Swing. Watanabe’s power also got her out of a Dragon Sleeper. Kai’s plan fell apart when she missed the Tornado Kick and left her open for the Tear Drop, giving the champion her third successful title defence. After the match Rika Tatsumi gave the title belt to Watanabe and praised her for shining brightly ever since she won the title. This version of Miu Watanabe is somebody Tatsumi wants to fight so she asked her for a title shot! Watanabe accepted because she one day wants to surpass her tag team partner and said they should do the match at “GRAND PRINCESS ’23” on 18th March.

Remember when I said I wasn’t sure if there was a team name for Shoko Nakajima, Hyper Misao & Kaya Toribami? Turns out there is one. The trio are called Kyoraku Torimei when they are together!

HIMAWARI kicked off the wrestling portion of the show by winning her match for the first time ever. She avenged her submission defeat to Wakana Uehara from last week by making her tap out in a tag match today. HIMAWARI credited the win to Yuki Aino for being there but Aino said she didn’t do anything. HIMAWARI insisted it was because of Aino because her presence in the corner gave her reassurance. Aino has now been part of HIMAWARI’s Tokyo Joshi Pro debut and HIMAWARI’s first win. That means she has been a part of every important moment in the rookie’s career!

The SKE48 mini concert included a surprise announcement of the idol unit sending a “second assassin” to TJPW soon (the first being Arai). Shiori Aoki will be debuting for the promotion on 15th April… as a referee. Aoki was just as surprised as everyone else in the room by the announcement but she performed a three count on the canvas to endorse the idea.

There was the usual opening musical performance from The Up Up Girls with the 4th member Shino also involved. There was big news afterwards when it was announced that Shino’s pro wrestling debut is now going to happen soon! She will have her first match on 6th March teaming with Raku to take on the other two unit members Watanabe & Hikari Noa. Shino thanked everyone for supporting her because she was scared that she was being overtaken by the other trainees. She will do her best to repay her fans for their support.

A press conference held earlier today had Miu Watanabe and Janai Kai meeting each other face to face. Watanabe said the more she defends the International Princess Title, the more new sights she will get to see. Her target is to defend the belt next month both at Ariake Coliseum and in America. She can still feel her potential to grow as champion so she cannot lose it tomorrow. Kai said it took her five years to finally wrestle in Japan and winning the IP Title tomorrow is part of her dream. She is friends with Watanabe’s previous challenger Trish Adora and has already gotten advice from her on how to deal with Watanabe’s power. Kai also warned the champion that she is wearing black today because this press conference is also a funeral for Watanabe’s title reign! Watanabe tried to respond in English, telling Kai “No!” and “Not!” over and over. She also tried to say tomorrow but kept stuttering. Mr. HAKU figured out Watanabe was actually saying “to-tomorrow” as in the day after tomorrow.

Tetsuya Endo will be off of this weekend’s shows due to illness. He tested negative for covid though so he will be back and ready in time for Keiji Muto’s retirement show on Tuesday. Yukio Sakaguchi moves up from the 4 Way Tag to replace Endo in Match #4. Gota Ihashi now takes up the empty slot in the 4 Way, with some teams mixed around to fit him in.

The last two block matches in the D GENERATIONS CUP are must-wins for everyone involved. Whoever wins their match goes through to the final. Toi Kojima has a little extra wriggle room because a draw against Takeshi Masada will also send him through. No such tiebreaker is there for Hideki Okatani Vs Yuya Koroku though.

I thought I blogged about this already but I didn’t. DDT and Tokyo Joshi Pro are getting a match each on Keiji Muto’s retirement show at the Tokyo Dome next week. It will no doubt be the biggest wrestling event taking place in Japan this year. DDT’s match pits The 37KAMIINA against Endo and the three young wrestlers who best represents DDT’s future. TJPW are grouping together their four pillars to take on the generation tier that are right below them.

Whoever wins the D GENERATIONS CUP will also get bumped up the card too with a chance to fight both Hino & Sakaguchi in this tag match.

Saki Akai has been doing a good job keeping the Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title in her grasp. She hasn’t been pinned or submitted since winning the title back in November.

Ilusion’s next match is happening on 11th February so where he stands on the 14th will be very different depending if he wins or loses that match. He may be fighting for the top spot or his match with Sumi could end up becoming the wooden spoon match of their group.

Once again Jun Akiyama is allowing his challenger to come up with the match stipulation for a DDT Extreme Title defence. This time it is Akito as the opponent and he came up with the Master Of Environment Match. All four corner turnbuckle pads will be removed and two green straps will criss cross the ring. Akiyama and Akito will fight under normal rules with the ring in this state. The green straps do not count as rope breaks. Akito was inspired by Gaia’s fight against Sikorsky in Baki The Grappler to come up with the match idea. That fight was all about how to use the environment as a weapon and Akito thinks he has a much better chance of beating Akiyama under a similar scenario. The concept might backfire though because Akiyama himself admits he does not move a lot in his matches. The restrictions caused by the extra ropes across the ring may not even matter in the end. Akito wants to return the Extreme Title belt back to purple if he wins it but accepts that it is the champion who gets to make that decision.

Proof of DAMNATION T.A still being a well oiled machine can be seen from how KANON is dealing with Naruki Doi. KANON & MJ Paul attacked Doi backstage after his match last weekend. Today at a press conference KANON approached Doi and apologised for his behaviour. Doi wanted to make sure if the DDT Universal Title defence against KANON is only going to involve those two and no one else. That means no Sasaki and no Paul in KANON’s corner while Doi will not have Kazuki Hirata in his. Doi then hesitantly shook KANON’s hand until KANON gave him a low blow! He told Doi his title reign won’t make it past its first defence in Nagoya!

Let’s see how this AEW relationship works out. Kip Sabian makes his DDT debut and Penelope Ford is by his side for extra danger. His first match here has him teaming with both Chris Brookes & Hagane Shinno as an international trio. Shinno recently had his own little excursion in AEW over the winter.

The new IRON FIST Tag Champions are going up against former champions in their first defence. Isami Kodaka is now a double BASARA champion and Daiki Shimomura wants to hold the tag titles long enough for the “ALL STAR JR FESTIVAL 2023”. That’s if he is chosen as BASARA’s representative of course. He may have jumped the gun on that. Aijin Tag lost the belts to the previous champions and had already planned to challenge them to a rematch. Now that Sento Minzoku have the titles, Aijin Tag had to change their target.

A partial lineup of other wrestlers have been announced. Team DDT so far consists of Kazusada Higuchi, Jun Akiyama and Yoshihiko. The first crop of GCW wrestlers showing up are Joey Janela, Blake Christian, EFFY and Allie Katch. The last two are being advertised together as Bussy (adding that to the taglist is going to be a dangerous game) so that means we have at least one other tag match happening.

Yuki Kamifuku will be missing the last set of Tokyo Joshi Pro shows in January because she will be touring southeast Asia that week. She has a match at SPW in Singapore on the 27th and another match at SET-UP in Thailand on the 28th.

A one night tournament is taking place in the venue where TJPW held their very first event. TwinBox AKIHABARA was where Miyu Yamashita, KANNA and Chikage Kiba had their first exhibition matches on 30th January, 2013. To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of that event, TJPW is holding the Princess Of The Decade tournament on PPV featuring 19 wrestlers from the roster taking part. It will be an empty arena show with all of the matches being held on mats instead of a wrestling ring. The winner of the tournament will receive a luxurious prize. Yuka Sakazaki, Yuki Kamifuku and Wakana Uehara will not be on the show. Sakazaki and Kamifuku are both wrestling overseas while Uehara has a scheduling conflict.

Each member of the unit is putting together their own match too. Yuki Ueno wants to fight Gorgeous Matsuno, Toi Kojima puts himself to the test against Yasu Urano and the ShunMao tag team invited MEN’s Teioh to officiate a 4 Way Tag match that wouldn’t look out of place at a MEN’S Club promoted event.

There was a slight delay but she will arrive in Tokyo Joshi Pro this February. “The Kick Demon” with a background in kickboxing and Muay Thai has faced Miyu Yamashita and Maki Itoh during their visits to America last year. When Kai comes over to Japan she has an International Princess Title shot against Miu Watanabe waiting for her. Her TJPW debut is happening a week earlier on 11th February.

They’ve only been in the same match together once for an Elimination Tag held on a BJW show last July. SAGAT enjoyed the experience of fighting Kamitani so much he’s been wanting a singles match against him ever since. BASARA was able to put it together for his special occasion.

The goal of the Monoboke Death Match is for Antonio Honda to make Jun Akiyama laugh. Every time Honda kicks out of a pin or uses a rope break to escape a submission, he gets to make a joke. If he can get Akiyama to laugh three times he will win the match. Akiyama on the other hand needs to beat Honda by pinfall or submission three times in order to successfully defend the DDT Extreme Title.

If Daisuke Sasaki ends his self-imposed exile and shows up he will be booked for a match. The undercard will be changed around as a result.

MAO & Shunma Katsumata will not be at the show because they will be wrestling in California for Prestige that same day.

Sasaki has gone missing because Naruki Doi won the DDT Universal Title from Yuki Ueno instead of him. KANON stepped forward as the first challenger expecting his leader to be the new champion. He committed to challenge Doi anyway because he now thinks winning the title from him will cheer Sasaki up and bring him out of hiding.

Kotaro Suzuki, Kip Sabian, Penelope Ford and Shinya Ishida will all be on the show.

The three wrestlers taking part in the DDT Universal Title match all met for a press conference held yesterday. Naruki Doi said he is ready to continue his fight with Daisuke Sasaki after the two went to a 30 minute draw over a week ago. He expects to settle his score with Sasaki first, then beat Yuki Ueno to win the title. Sasaki (who was drinking) said the match does not need Ueno and he accused him of devaluing the Universal Title after Ueno lost to Kazusada Higuchi at “NEVER MIND 2022”. Sasaki thinks it is now up to him and Doi to make the belt be worth more than the KO-D Openweight Title. Ueno calmly ignored Sasaki’s insults and spoke about his upcoming plans with the title. After he defends it tomorrow, he will put the belt on the line against Samuray Del Sol on 21st March and then he will bring it with him to America. It is his dream to defend the Universal Title in the USA so everything from here on out will be a journey towards that destination.

Before tomorrow’s show begins there will be a contract signing for both the DDT Extreme Title Match for 21st January and the KO-D Tag Team Titles Match for 29th January.

Wakana Uehara gets her wish and will face Shoko Nakajima. The way it plays out in her head is it will be a high flying battle in the skies. It’s probably not going to turn out that way.

Fuminori Abe will have his first match in BASARA since going freelance on this show.

Over in the Young Ganbare Cup either Yumehito Imanari or Kentaro Hachisu can get one win closer to winning the tournament outright if one can beat the other. Meanwhile when Yuki Kanzaki and Munetatsu Nakamura face each other one of them can get their first win in Ganbare☆Pro.

Shuichiro Katsumura is keeping himself busy for his show during the tripleshot. Not only is he doing the main event but he is running the gauntlet by taking part in three grappling rules bouts with no striking allowed. Each bout will have a five minute time limit and victory can be achieved by submission or referee stoppage. If a bout goes to a time limit draw then whoever made the least rope breaks will win. If both wrestlers have the same amount then it will remain a tie.
