8. DDT Universal Title – Survival 3 Way Match: Yuki Ueno (c) Vs Naruki Doi Vs Daisuke Sasaki

The three wrestlers taking part in the DDT Universal Title match all met for a press conference held yesterday. Naruki Doi said he is ready to continue his fight with Daisuke Sasaki after the two went to a 30 minute draw over a week ago. He expects to settle his score with Sasaki first, then beat Yuki Ueno to win the title. Sasaki (who was drinking) said the match does not need Ueno and he accused him of devaluing the Universal Title after Ueno lost to Kazusada Higuchi at “NEVER MIND 2022”. Sasaki thinks it is now up to him and Doi to make the belt be worth more than the KO-D Openweight Title. Ueno calmly ignored Sasaki’s insults and spoke about his upcoming plans with the title. After he defends it tomorrow, he will put the belt on the line against Samuray Del Sol on 21st March and then he will bring it with him to America. It is his dream to defend the Universal Title in the USA so everything from here on out will be a journey towards that destination.

Before tomorrow’s show begins there will be a contract signing for both the DDT Extreme Title Match for 21st January and the KO-D Tag Team Titles Match for 29th January.

The Max Heart Tournament begins and I have to rewrite the tournament layout because 121000000 Vs Free WiFi is put down as part of the 2nd Round even though it will be both team’s first match.

Wakana Uehara gets her wish and will face Shoko Nakajima. The way it plays out in her head is it will be a high flying battle in the skies. It’s probably not going to turn out that way.

If Shinichiro Kawamatsu wrestles in a suit does that mean he wears one in the sauna too? That is my first thought after finding out he will team with The 37KAMIINA.

Not only is he doing the main event but he is running the gauntlet by taking part in three grappling rules bouts with no striking allowed. Each bout will have a five minute time limit and victory can be achieved by submission or referee stoppage. If a bout goes to a time limit draw then whoever made the least rope breaks will win. If both wrestlers have the same amount then it will remain a tie.

Last year’s tournament being built around trios matches was kept around for this year’s edition. Each team featured one DDT wrestler, one Big Japan wrestler and one wild card all of which were random combinations. For everyone involved it was their last chance to grab some glory in the ring before the new year begins.

Shuffle 6-Man Tag Tournament – Round 1

Ika Ra Takeshi Ki Asu Manji Hai (Driver’s High) Vs Big Bombers

The atmosphere of the show was set early by the team called Big Bombers. Their entrance included a video of MAO, Yuya Aoki & Yuko Miyamoto all travelling together for a road trip on motorbikes. Their opponents attempted to use a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine who starts but Kikutaro misunderstood. He thought it was just a charade to jump Big Bombers while they weren’t looking so he charged them on his own and got beaten up for it. Kikutaro had even more bad luck, the worse of which involved MAO manipulating Yukio Naya & Hideyoshi Kamitani into Double Choke Slamming their own partner. MAO slipped in for the pin afterward to keep his team’s road trip going.

Team 2023 Vs Super J Cups

The only time limit draw on the show took place in the second match. The Super J Cups are called that because it is a trio of junior heavyweight champions. Supposedly. Kazusada Higuchi’s weight was announced in the venue as 99.999999kg so he was really pushing it. Higuchi spent the end of the match fighting with Daisuke Sekimoto too so nobody was complaining about getting to see that heavyweight battle. It built up to Sekimoto leading Chris Brookes & Isami Kodaka into a Triple Topé Suicida aimed at Higuchi, Kota Sekifuda & MUSASHI. The time limit was reached right when Sekimoto gave Higuchi the German Suplex. When overtime began Sekimoto went straight for the pin but Higuchi kicked out immediately. Brookes tagged in and caught Higuchi in a Prawn Hold. However Higuchi reversed the move and rolled himself on top of Brookes to steal the 1 Count pin needed to win.

Zero Hyaku Vs BraNoue In The Sky With Diamonds

If there is one thing everyone knows about The Brahman Brothers its that they like to stay clean, am I right? Tetsuya Endo & Yasufumi Nakanoue shared their concerns and carried around disinfectant spray. Oh, the two of them were also Brahman-ised and happy to take part in their cheating during the match. Yuma Aoyagi fought back by covering his arms with the metal hoses and Lariating both Brahmans but he ended up pinning Brahman Kei by mistake so the match continued. Nakanoue placed a stake up to Yuki Ueno’s butt (after disinfecting the butt first of course) and Brahman Shu hit it with a chairshot. The gameplan then fell apart due to miscommunication. Endo accidentally hit Kei over the head with a steel tray and then the suitcase thrown by Nakanoue hit Shu instead of Aoyagi. It ended up costing them the match and Zero Hyaku advanced at their expense.

Emi Chichichi (Wara Chichichi) Vs Team Kansai

Round 1 almost closed out with a little bit of death match flavour. Masashi Takeda brought out a pair of scissors which annoyed the referee Yukinori Matsui. When that was taken away we were left with a match on the regular level of danger. I mean Takeda and Masato Tanaka were still on opposite sides of the ring here. We also had HARASHIMA and Takuya Nomura trading kicks against each other. Takeshi Masada though ended up getting the worst of everything. He took a Swan Dive Body Press from HARASHIMA, a Double Stomp from Yuki Ishikawa and was finished off with the Takeda’s Reverse U Crash.

Non-Tournament 8-Man Tag Match

DDT and Big Japan got threw some of their veterans together for an inter-promotional 8-Man Tag. Danshoku Dieno was back to his old self looking for men in the audience to kiss during his entrance. Shunma Katsumata took to taunting Ryuji Ito when the opportunity presented itself. Antonio Honda tried to tell a Gongitsune joke but Jaki Numazawa cut him off so he could tell his own jokes. Gongitsune groaned after every punchline. Kazuki Hirata put on the Hirata GO! glasses and danced until Kankuro Hoshino placed fox ears over his head. The music changed to “What Does The Fox Say” and the two danced until Hirata realised what was going on and fainted. Dieno set himself up in the Hell Gate position in the corner to charge up his teammate’s attacks. Abdullah Kobayashi then revealed he has the same ability, it only works once every four years. Kobayashi then formed his own Hell Gate. Ito placed a steel plate over his chest, used Kobayashi to charge it up and then did the Dragon Splash onto Hirata to give Big Japan the win. Ito declared Big Japan as the winners of the feud against DDT but Dieno refused to accept defeat. Ito and Dieno threw challenges at each other and both left the ring in a huff.

Shuffle 6-Man Tag Tournament – Semi Final

Ika Ra Takeshi Ki Asu Manji Hai (Driver’s High) Vs Super J Cups

People still didn’t believe that Higuchi is a junior heavyweight so he tried vaulting the top rope along with his tag partners. The whole thing didn’t work because Sekifuda & MUSASHI were both pulled down and Higuchi tripped. The Driver’s High team capitalised and all three hit Handspring Back Elbows to the opposition. Sekifuda recovered and keep trying to go for the win until Aoki cut him off and stole the win with the Blue Storm.

Zero Hyaku Vs Emi Chichichi (Wara Chichichi)

The death match flavour did show up in this match. Takeda took out his scissors again but put them away, promising to fight fair. Zero Hyaku had a lot of communication problems when Ueno tried to direct Hashimoto & Aoyagi into setting up a Triple Power Bomb properly. The match then broke down when chairs were brought into the ring. Ishikawa and even HARASHIMA threw chairshots at their opponents. Ueno took the chair and hit HARASHIMA with it. Takeda then pulled out a stapler and stapled a show poster onto Ueno’s chest! Ueno got his revenge by stapling the poster onto Ishikawa’s forehead and then pinning him with the Rolling Guillotine Ace Crusher.

Special 8-Man Tag Match

Before the final could take place there was another non-tournament match to get through. Konosuke Takeshita led a team of foreign wrestlers against Yuji Okabayashi and his band of Strong BJ fighters. The DDT related side won this one. Everything was built up to Takeshita, Drew Parker and RSP doing stereo Swanton Bombs along with the Fable on Kazumi Kikuta, Takuho Kato & Kazumasa Yoshida. Takeshita then pinned Yoshida with the Zahi. After the match backstage RSP said he first wrestled in Japan for Big Japan but now he considers himself part if DDT. Takeshita thinks 2023 will see the full return of wrestlers travelling everywhere around the world. Cara Noir did not say anything. Okabayashi is impressed by how much Takeshita has improved since the last time they fought. However he is also happy with the knowledge that his Chops are still effective against Takeshita. Kikuta told the DDT team not to get carried away just because they won. Kato spoke about Parker’s success since leaving Big Japan. He considers himself close to Parker because they are the same age and their birthdays are only a few days apart. Yoshida was happy to get to fight Takeshita.

Shuffle 6-Man Tag Tournament – Final

Ika Ra Takeshi Ki Asu Manji Hai (Driver’s High) Vs Zero Hyaku

The final came down to this. The Driver’s High team came out all wearing gear matching with Miyamoto’s. Late in the match MAO & Aoki focused on Missile attacks to Hashimoto until the tables turned. Ueno caught MAO with the Dropkick, Aoyagi hit the Rockstar Buster and Hashimoto hit the Shining Wizard. MAO kicked out of both at one so Hashimoto had to drop him with the Rising DDT, crowning Zero Hyaku as the tournament winners!

The winners received their prize from Sayoko Mita. Aoyagi was happy to win because this was his first New Year’s Eve show. Hashimoto said the team went from Zero to Hyaku! Ueno admitted he never expected Hashimoto to be so mischievous and Aoyagi to be so nice. He doesn’t know what to expect in 2023 but the three of them will continue to change pro wrestling. Aoyagi wants the three of them to reunite for next year’s tournament but he was told it can only happen if the random lottery somehow pairs the three of them together again.

*Aijin Tag fails in V2. Takumi Tsukamoto & Yasu Urano become the 7th IRON FIST Tag Champions!
6. Union MAX Title: Isami Kodaka (c) defeated Fuminori Abe by Knockout with the Isamiashi Zan (19:27).
*V3 for Isami Kodaka.

Fuminori Abe’s attempt to win back the Union MAX Title failed after he lost to Isami Kodaka by Knockout. The two pulled no punches against each other, ending with Kodaka cutting down the challenger with the Isamiashi Zan. Abe was given a 10 count to return to his feet and he almost made it. By 9 he was propping himself back up to a standing position by using the ropes but he collapsed and the referee made it to 10 to end the match. Kodaka celebrated the win with the rest of Sento Minzoku and spent his victory speech saying how great pro wrestling is. He also told Abe that the next time they fight each other he is going to beat him by pinfall.

Abe got to give a speech too and talked about his last five years wrestling under the BASARA banner. He does not know how much longer his career is going to last but he will dedicate what’s left of it to the development of independent wrestling, BASARA included. He explained himself further after the show by revealing his contract with BASARA is ending on 31st December and he made the decision to go freelance in 2023. He joked about going to WWE but in reality nothing is changing. Abe will continue to appear at BASARA on a regular basis on the same kind of deal Minoru Fujita and Yasu Urano are doing. The indies have helped Abe and nurtured him throughout his life so this is how he is going to pay it back. That’s why he kept this announcement for after the show instead of saying it in the ring.

In 2016 Takumi Tsukamoto won the first ever IRON FIST TAG TOURNAMENT with Isami Kodaka but there IRON FIST Tag Titles did not exist yet. So it wasn’t until today that Tsukamoto finally won the titles with Urano as his partner. He thinks the belts were made for him because they feature a moon design on one of the plates and he has a moon on his ring gear. Aijin Tag are depressed to lose the titles this quickly after dedicating so much of their year trying to win them.

Ryuichi Sekine is happy to be back in pro wrestling even though he lost his return match. He spent his time away from the ring as a farmer and plans to continue doing that career along with pro wrestling from now on. Sekine will come back for more matches but has not decided when they will happen next.

The second show was built around a challenge series between the Kung Fu Yoga Allied Forces led by Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi & FUMA against the Ninja USA Forces led by Ryota Nakatsu & SAGAT. 2 points were given for a win and 1 was given for a draw. The series ended in a 5-5 tie after the main event so maybe another challenge will be held again sometime in the future.

The final match had a scroll hanging above the ring and the winning team was whoever could pull it down first. It was not a Ladder match however and there were none to be seen. Everyone piled together for Hiroshi and Nakatsu to climb onto and the two fought beneath the scroll. Hiroshi was knocked off the pile and Nakatsu was able to grab the scroll before falling after him to win the match.

Masato Kamino & Lil’ Kraken missed the memo on the jacket match and came down to the ring wearing swimming costumes instead of martial arts gear.

The Gilberto Style Match between Urano and Kodaka is taken from the anime Baki The Grappler. In the anime it is a contest where both fighters hold onto the same handkerchief while they fight. The first one to let go of the handkerchief loses. The “Loser Loses” wordplay is because the Loser Loses his honour in defeat.

Speed Of Sounds having a match against each other is notable by itself but the match title sounding like a reference to Ranma 1/2’s cursed springs has me confused over what they could be planning.

7. D-Ou Grand Prix 2022 – Final: Yuki Ueno Vs Yukio Naya

Naya visited his father Takatoriki Tadashige this week to give him the latest report on his pro wrestling career as well as talk about his brother Oho’s currently impressive run at the Grand Sumo Tournament in Fukuoka. Naya told his father he was competing in the D-Ou Grand Prix and qualified for the final next month. Takatoriki praised his son for working hard but told him he always had weak luck. Everybody likes people who are hungry to succeed and try their best but those qualities can be useless if Naya does not have the spirit to bring down his opponent and win. So Takatoriki offered to teach Naya that spirit by using forbidden gambling training to improve his luck.

The training is forbidden because Takatoriki was a retired sumo wrestler who became blackballed from the sport after admitting to illegal gambling on baseball games which resulted borrowing large amounts of money to pay off his debts. Despite his dark history with gambling, he felt this was necessary and challenged Naya to beat him in a game of blackjack. Naya succeeded and his father promised to reward him with a 6 month gift voucher at a Personal Training gym if he wins the D-Ou Grand Prix.

Four of the D-Ou Grand Prix participants who failed to make the final now have to team up together and fight the entire DAMNATION T.A.

Naruki Doi returns and gets his request to fight HARASHIMA granted. It’s in a 6-Man Tag Match though and HARASHIMA has to fight against the rest of his DISASTER BOX stablemates.

BASARA “BASARA 206 ~RYU TOKOTO~”, 11/12/2022
Tokyo Korakuen Hall

1. Ryuichi Sekine Vs X
2. Union MAX Title: Isami Kodaka (c) Vs Fuminori Abe

Over two years ago Fuminori Abe won the Union MAX Title under unfortunate circumstances when the champion Masahiro Takanashi suffered a bad injury during their match. Abe became the new champion as a result but he never really accepted the reign as being fully legitimate. After winning the Chouten ~Itadaki~ tournament this week he thinks now is the time for him to challenge for the belt again and prove to himself he deserves to be the champion. Doing that against Isami Kodaka, the man who has held the MAX Title the most would definitely prove it.

Ryuichi Sekine returns to the ring after spending almost two years away from pro wrestling to take care of his mental health. While he was away, Abe won the rights to become Ryuichi Sekine II but he purposely never used the gimmick knowing the original would one day return.

6. Chouten ~Itadaki~ – Final: Fuminori Abe defeated Yasu Urano with the Modified Manjigatame (23:32).

Fuminori Abe wins the Chouten ~Itadaki~ tournament after he defeated Yasu Urano in the final! Afterwards he challenged Isami Kodaka for the Union MAX Title at Korakuen Hall on 11th December.

The return of the Turnabout Pro Wrestling Trial brought Kodaka to court accused of blackmail. The Prosecutor Banana Senga said Kodaka used blackmail to deprive Gouma of his full name, Gouma Ryu. Since Gouma was Kodaka’s attorney in this trial, he had to defend that incident. He lost the Ryu part of his name because of a match stipulation and had to follow the rules. The two agreed if they could beat Kodaka then they could get Gouma’s name back. They won the match and Kodaka was declared guilty. However, Kodaka asked the court for an appeal over the result. It’s been granted so for now Gouma has been temporarily renamed Gouma Ryu (Reserve) until further notice.

Ryuichi Sekine announced he will have his comeback match on the 11th December Korakuen show. He took a break from wrestling back at the end of January 2021 to take care of his mental health.

Isami Kodaka & Emi Sakura are teaming up but something seems to be up with Sakura’s appearance on the show because the letter W is attached to her name. Choun-Shiryu is also coming along to team with Lee Yoneyama. Maybe that’s Kaori Yoneyama doing a New Beijing style gimmick?

There is also now a dark match featuring the UMA Corps led by Miyako Haru along with Gota Ihashi, Yasu Urano, Yuna Mizumori and even a KUDO appearance. All of Masahiro Takanashi’s friends are here!

Shin-Kiba 1st RING
??? Fans – Withheld

1. Chouten ~Itadaki~ – Round 1 A Block – 2 Count Rules: FUMA defeated Daiki Shimomura with a Cradle (8:14).
2. Chouten ~Itadaki~ – Round 1 B Block – 2 Count Rules: Yasu Urano defeated Ryota Nakatsu with a School Boy (8:42)
3. Chouten ~Itadaki~ – Round 1 A Block – 2 Count Rules: Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi defeated Minoru Fujita with a Cross Armbar (7:58).
4. Chouten ~Itadaki~ – Round 1 B Block – 2 Count Rules: Isami Kodaka defeated Banana Senga with the Diving Double Knee Drop (4:24).
5. Chouten ~Itadaki~ – Round 1 A Block – 2 Count Rules: Tsutomu Oosugi defeated Lil’ Kraken with the Tsuki no Ishi (6:23).
6. Chouten ~Itadaki~ – Round 1 B Block – 2 Count Rules: Takato Nakano defeated SAGAT with a Cradle (1:03).
7. Chouten ~Itadaki~ – Round 1 A Block – 2 Count Rules: Fuminori Abe defeated Daichi Kazato with the Modified Manjigatame (5:36).
8. Chouten ~Itadaki~ – Round 1 B Block – 2 Count Rules: Masato Kamino defeated Takumi Tsukamoto with the Lariat (8:38).

The Chouten ~Itadaki~ Quarter Finals are FUMA Vs Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi, Tsutomu Oosugi Vs Fuminori Abe, Masato Kamino Vs Takato Nakano and Isami Kodaka Vs Yasu Urano.

FUMA said he has been waiting to finally fight Hiroshi with all of his might. Hiroshi credits his Judo skill for eliminating the last Chouten winner Minoru Fujita and believes it will also beat his friend in the next round.

Urano thinks the 2 Count Rule was the reason he beat Ryota Nakatsu in the 1st Round. If Urano is lucky enough to beat him then he is lucky enough to win the tournament! His match with Kodaka in Round 2 is under normal 3 Count rules though.

Oosugi and Abe have never been in a singles match against each other before. However Oosugi still hates Abe a lot because of all the times they fought in tag matches. Abe’s jokey behavior pisses him off.

Aijin Tag now have to meet in the next round. Nakano said he will pin Kamino for a 3 Count in 0.1 seconds. Kamino had to ask the ref if he can physically count that fast.
