The three wrestlers taking part in the DDT Universal Title match all met for a press conference held yesterday. Naruki Doi said he is ready to continue his fight with Daisuke Sasaki after the two went to a 30 minute draw over a week ago. He expects to settle his score with Sasaki first, then beat Yuki Ueno to win the title. Sasaki (who was drinking) said the match does not need Ueno and he accused him of devaluing the Universal Title after Ueno lost to Kazusada Higuchi at “NEVER MIND 2022”. Sasaki thinks it is now up to him and Doi to make the belt be worth more than the KO-D Openweight Title. Ueno calmly ignored Sasaki’s insults and spoke about his upcoming plans with the title. After he defends it tomorrow, he will put the belt on the line against Samuray Del Sol on 21st March and then he will bring it with him to America. It is his dream to defend the Universal Title in the USA so everything from here on out will be a journey towards that destination.

Before tomorrow’s show begins there will be a contract signing for both the DDT Extreme Title Match for 21st January and the KO-D Tag Team Titles Match for 29th January.

Wakana Uehara gets her wish and will face Shoko Nakajima. The way it plays out in her head is it will be a high flying battle in the skies. It’s probably not going to turn out that way.

The last few months of 2022 saw a bit of a career revival for Yasu Urano thanks to successes in both BASARA and JUST TAP OUT. It’s up to Isami Kodaka to make sure the freelancer does not spoil BASARA’s 7th anniversary by defending the Union MAX Title against him.

Fuminori Abe will have his first match in BASARA since going freelance on this show.

Over in the Young Ganbare Cup either Yumehito Imanari or Kentaro Hachisu can get one win closer to winning the tournament outright if one can beat the other. Meanwhile when Yuki Kanzaki and Munetatsu Nakamura face each other one of them can get their first win in Ganbare☆Pro.

Not only is he doing the main event but he is running the gauntlet by taking part in three grappling rules bouts with no striking allowed. Each bout will have a five minute time limit and victory can be achieved by submission or referee stoppage. If a bout goes to a time limit draw then whoever made the least rope breaks will win. If both wrestlers have the same amount then it will remain a tie.

Some injury news heading into the weekend shows. Miyu Yamashita was diagnosed with a mild concussion coming out of the Ittenyon main event. She was meant to wrestle in London for EVE tomorrow but that trip is now cancelled for safety concerns. EVE will announce their decision on her next appearance as soon as possible. It sounds like she is at least going to remain the EVE Champion for now.

Haruna Neko has a shoulder injury and will be out of action until 19th January.

Due to scheduling conflicts, Wakana Uehara will not have her next wrestling match until after 15th January. However she in the process of adjusting her schedule to become a regular on Tokyo Joshi Pro shows from that point onwards.

A time limit draw has resulted in Naruki Doi and Daisuke Sasaki both getting a DDT Universal Title match against Yuki Ueno. The three of them agreed to do a Survival 3 Way Match, meaning it is elimination rules. Everyone in the match is convinced they can beat the other two in under 60 minutes.

We’re getting a preview for Kazusada Higuchi and Yuji Hino with their buddies Yuki Ishida and Yukio Naya coming along for the ride.

A decade ago Sanshiro Takagi teamed with Munenori Sawa as Hentai Dai Shacho. Now he is forming a new team with Sawa’s protege Fuminori Abe called Bonno Dai Shacho. It’s another path Takagi is taking in 2023 to bring himself back to his peak pro wrestling form.

The Ganbare☆Joshi division is rebooting this year. Details for what it entails are still to come but for now the women will continue doing their best. In a rematch from the D-Ou Grand Prix draw that happened in November, Kazusada Higuchi and Yuji Hino are facing off again this time with the KO-D Openweight Title on the line. The previous match had a total of 182 chops thrown between the two and still ended without a winner. Admittedly, Hino demanded the match more because he wants to fight Higuchi again rather than because of a desire to win the KO-D Title for a second time.

BURNING defends their newly won KO-D 6-Man Tag Team Titles against Pheromones. Kotaro Suzuki was told when you come to DDT, a confrontation against Pheromones is inevitable. Tetsuya Endo & Yusuke Okada are already trying to get into their opponent’s heads by telling them what they do is not sexy at all. Koju Takeda will be the wild card because he is the third man on the Pheromones side instead of Yumehito Imanari.

Shinya Aoki, Naruki Doi and Hikaru Machida will all be on the show.

D GENERATIONS CUP

The D GENERATIONS CUP is a round robin tournament being put together by DDT for their young wrestlers to compete in. It is the first time DDT is doing a tournament built around youth since the DNA Grand Prix in 2016. The prize for the winner is a spot on DDT’s trip to Hollywood in March. The winner will be booked for both “DDT GOES HOLLYWOOD” on 30th March and “GCW VS DDT” in Los Angeles on 31st March.

Every match in the group stage will have a 15 minute time limit. Wins are worth 2 points, time limit and double knockout draws are worth 1 point and losses, double countouts and no contests are worth 0 points. The winner of both blocks will face each other in the final. Head-To-Head results from the group stage will be used as a tiebreaker. If that is also tied then a sudden death match will take place to decide who goes to the final.

It’s been four months since Takeshi Masada had his debut match. He’s been wrestling matches on a weekly basis since then so he hasn’t had the time to soak in any of them. He also doesn’t understand why DDT has labelled him a super rookie when he hasn’t won any matches yet. He’s also aware that Kazuma Sumi can quickly catch up with him which is another reason why he isn’t comfortable with the super rookie label. As for his match against Sanshiro Takagi, Masada is determined to win so he can be on DDT’s American shows next year. He wants to spread DDT across the world like Konosuke Takeshita is doing while also showing that DDT is more than just Takeshita. He wonders if Takagi really is the company president or only pretends to be one. He’ll find out tomorrow.

So either Onita, Shunma Katsumata or Toi Kojima could become the president of CyberFight, the vice president of CyberFight or the store manager of the Drop Kick Bar if they win.

The match itself is an Aerial Time Bomb & Current Blast Bat Death Match. There will be baseball bats rigged with explosives placed around the ring. Once 10 minutes have passed a time bomb that is hanging directly above the ring will drop and explode with a shower of sparks raining down along with it.

Young Ganbare Cup

The first CyberFight related tournament of the new year is the Young Ganbare Cup. It will be a league focusing on revitalizing young pro wrestlers with participants representing Ganpro, MAKAI and P.P.P. TOKYO. Also Yumehito Imanari is taking part as a “young old man” because he strongly requested a spot when the tournament was announced. Each league match has a 30 minute time limit with 2 points for every win, 1 point for every tie and 0 points for every loss. Should one wrestler win all of their league matches then they will automatically be declared the tournament winner. If nobody wins all of their matches then the top two at the end of the league schedule will face each other in a playoff final. The prize for winning the Young Ganbare Cup is 30,000 yen. The DDT Extreme Title belt has been changed from purple to white as per the request of Jun Akiyama. He showed off the refurbished belt while wearing a Super Sasadango Mask. He also decided the stipulation for the match will depend on if Sasadango can lose enough weight before it takes place. Sasadango has been tasked to get under 105kg. He was originally at 127kg and currently weighs 117kg. If Sasadango reaches the target then he will get to choose the stipulation on the day of the show. If not then the match will be a traditional PWF rules pro wrestling bout. Akiyama said if that is the case then DDT will have to bring in Kyohei Wada to be the referee because nobody knows the PWF ruleset better than him.

LiLiCo is excited to be taking part in the Anal Explosion ceremony. She has been training that body part in preparation and promises not to sue DDT if she suffers permanent damage to it. She wanted The Rock to be the person to light the fuse but he does not have time in his schedule to do it. LiLiCo also talked about potentially returning to the ring and wrestling again. Her knee injury is recovering well but she isn’t ready yet. She said her left kneecap has fully recovered and now she has to focus on developing her knee muscles again.

A press conference was held during the week featuring the participants of the Ganbare☆Joshi Vs Ice Ribbon match. The visiters all spoke of their happiness to wrestle in GanJo. Yuki Mashiro in particular is excited to be part of a hot inter-promotional match before she retires on New Year’s Eve. Nao Ishikawa spoke of how her previous matches against Yuna Manase in Ice Ribbon left her frustrated. Kaho Matsushita feels proud she gets to represent her company and hopes the match will attract Ganbare☆Pro’s audience to Ice Ribbon. HARUKAZE said the Ganjo team are united by their passionate bonds and wants to deliver a great match that they will win. Moeka Haruhi described why winters have short daytimes and said their burning desire comes from the Earth being closest to the sun at this time of year. Manase is grateful to Ice Ribbon for getting to wrestle there and wonders what it would be like if she could combine the “Happy” pro wrestling of Ice Ribbon with the “Burning” pro wrestling of Ganpro.

The KO-D Openweight Champion is taking things one match at a time going into the new year. Kazusada Higuchi is not thinking too far into the future until he beats Yuki Ueno next week. This will be the first time the KO-D Title will be defended in a match between former DNA wrestlers. Higuchi is deeply moved by how far he and Ueno have come from that sub-brand.

Jun Akiyama is still set on changing the DDT Extreme Title belt from purple straps to white straps. The purple colour reminds him of bitter memories. Changing it to white will remind people of the GHC Hardcore Title. He originally created that belt in 2004 to provoke Kenta Kobashi, who held the GHC Heavyweight Title at the time. It was made white to represent the idea that the title would be dyed in the champion’s colours and white is Akiyama’s colour.

Former opponents Yuki Ueno & Cara Noir now get to be tag partners.

With the addition of Kotaro Suzuki to the unit, all five members of BURNING are teaming together in one match for the first time.

The undercard matches may change if Pheromones are forced to disband on 29th December.

Higuchi has put it upon himself to raise Ishida on his own while Naomi Yoshimura is injured. Masada faces his pro wrestling “dad” Chris Brookes and Tetsuya Endo puts Hideki Okatani through his paces. If that’s not enough, Toi Kojima & Kazuma Sumi test their mettle against ShunMao.

There will be an autograph session at the show with Takeshita and Jun Akiyama among the guests.

Again, Pheromones splitting up may change around the card a little bit.
